The American Masters program on Dr. Anthony Fauci was so good. Nice to hear him talk about what was going on during the pandemic and early in his career with the AIDS virus.

I found the section on when he worked on the AIDS virus to be fascinating. He was hated so much by the Act Up and other activist groups, yet they ended up working together to develop new or parallel testing of the various drugs. Now, he is great friends with some of the people who opposed him. Says a lot about his ability to work with others… as long as they listen to the science of the situation, which, we know TFG did not.

I’m sure it will be shown again on PBS, if anyone is interested. I’d watch it again.

I learned a lot of the history from the movie (and book) And the Band Played On. And in real life I had several coworkers who had AIDS. One friend, Chuck.. first lost his partner and I went to see a partial large display of the AIDs Quilt at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena to see the section for him, which was covered in his signature Speedos. Went to the Celebration of Life. Chuck supported so many of the guys in Long Beach. He collected Teddy Bears and made sure each guy got one. He was a semifinalist for Volunteer of the year at Transamerica. The next year he wasn't able to be so active, but still working, but my boss nominated me for my rape crisis volunteering.. and I got semifinal. The boss was pretty half hearted about it, probably told by management that it looked good to have someone represent our division. So, Chuck passed away. That was so hard. His funeral was hard, though there was a lot of humor. The minister joked that Chuck had planned every single detail and only left a tiny gap for the minister to speak.. and it was a spring day in Long Beach and this old church had huge windows which were open that day and just as the minister joked about that, a breeze came up and all the large banners fluttered. The entire place knew that was Chuck! At the reception, his mom, who was amazing and had tended to both of them, asked us if the food was ok. She said Chuck told her it had to be good, "no tacky crackers with cheese". It was good and we told her so.

So many losses. A little girl here had been born in San Francisco, back when the blood banks were refusing to TEST the donations for HIV. Lorna Horn was a premie and had to get transfusions and it took a few years to realize that she had AIDS. She made it to at least 13, but that was the time of Ryan White and people shunning anyone with that virus because they considered it a gay thing. Guess we are coming around to a similar place.

So I look forward to the Fauci documentary, which was recording when I went to bed.

I just finished watching Marie Antoinette. It was good, but they ended in a weird spot. I guess there's going to be a second season, and we all know how that will end!

I've read a lot about Marie and Louis XVI. Did you know they were married for seven years before they even consummated their marriage?! They were both very young, 14 and 15, when they married. The costumes were great.

I also watched the first episode of Season 3 of Sanditon yesterday. It's off to a good start. They'd better give Charlotte her happy ending this season since I think it's the last. I know a lot of us were downright pissed off the first season. Jane Austen characters are supposed to get married and live happily ever after at the end of the story. I want my happy ending!!!

I enjoy ancestry shows. Tonight "Finding Your Roots" looked at Tamera Mowry's ancestry. On her father's side she's a descendent of William Brewster who came over on the Mayflower

Some years ago on another ancestry show "Who Do You Think You Are?" they discovered Ashley Judd is a descendent of William Brewster. So Tamera and Ashley are related? I thought they'd bring up the relation tonight. Didn't have to say anything about the other show.

New show starts tonight on PBS 8pm.

Ridley

The series stars Adrian Dunbar in the role of Alex Ridley. The former detective inspector is brought back in as a consultant 18 months after an early retirement due to a nervous breakdown from having to come to terms with the loss of his wife and daughter in a house fire. He spends some of his retirement time as a pianist and singer in a jazz club of which he is a co-owner. He assists former colleague Carol Farman (Bronagh Waugh), newly promoted to detective inspector.

Already has been renewed for second series. I always like Adrian Dunbar.

The last season of Endeavor starts tonight! Can’t wait!!

I absolutely hated Morse (too curmudgeonly), loved watching Lewis, love Endeavor. Hope the final season provides a good ending… or beginning for Morse. I wonder if, during the last show, Lewis will become his partner. Anyway, can’t wait.

I am so behind on Endeavour. I can’t believe it’s the ninth season. I left off at four or five. I’m glad I have things to catch up on during this writer’s strike.

I love that a new season of Unforgotten is on PBS. I really liked that show! And, I really like the guy who plays Sunny.

there is a show I have been watching on PBS for years called Astrid. It is French, no ubbing but subtitles. I have to watch it carefully as I do't know French and things happen fast inthis show. Well now there appears to be a show that isthe English versionof Astrid but. eventhough some plats are the same It annoys me that the woman playng Astrid in French is so good at plying autism while the girl playing patience is more like ASHS with a little OCD throuwn in. She smiles while she talks, she flirts while denying it.

I gus I will finish the French version instead of watching thes, just have no idea why it is done so badly.

I have a new, but old, viewing obsession. Note that I only have antenna tv, but I do like to watch PBS British mystery shows. After being unable to sleep about a month ago, I turned on the tv at 1 am and discovered Midsomer Murders…. I was hooked! Unfortunately, it was multiple episodes, so I was now awake until 3 am! The next day, I did some research as to when it was on and well, it’s on a lot… usually starting at 11pm!! Since there seems to be about 25 years (exaggerating) of episodes, I’m very tired most of the time right now. THEN, I discovered that the series is still on PBS on Thursday nights… a different Barnaby, but still good. Suffice it to say, I’m totally addicted to the show.

I can’t believe I haven’t watched Midsomer Murders. I love Brit mystery shows. Maybe I was intimidated by the number of seasons. 😉

Trust me, Midsomer is very easy to get into. Some of the episode scenarios are a bit eye rolling, but it is a British show. So there’s that. I like the early episodes as well. I worry about Detective Jones. The poor guy doesn’t have a life!
The new episodes with the cousin are on PBS currently. However, this morning, he was introduced with his cousin on the older show I was watching.
I think of Midsomer as sort of a Murder She Wrote type of show, if Angela Landsbury was a police detective. Every episode stands alone other that a few characters that you know pretty well.

As an antenna tv only watcher, I love finding new things to watch that I haven’t seen before. Last week, I got some new channels and there was a really interesting documentary of FDR.

Mame, I’m on season two of Marlow Murder Club. I need to get back to watching. I checked and my account says I’m on episode four, but I have no memory of the case. Oops! I’ll just re-start the season.

I will definitely start Midsomer Murders. I wonder how long it will take me to get up to date. 😂

Rieann I just finished season 2. Not sure when I'll have a chance to catch Season 3, as tomorrow I have an out-of-town friend coming for the week. Maybe in the mornings, as she's a night-owl?
