there is a podcast as well. I was disapointed in Clubby and his arrow. That should not have happened. But then he could have broken his ankle. sounded like a bad fall.

It did seem like terrible terrain to traverse but somehow the body should be protected from the arrows, but I know if they think they will come across game, they have to have immediate access to the arrows. He dodged a huge bullet that it didn't hit a major artery. He could have bled out before a helicopter could arrive, or even before he could call in. But yes, I loved the first portion where we saw some of the prep they did at base camp before they were dumped to their individual places. It is interesting how some of them were much more serious about trying to have a more substantial shelter and others were not. Those polar bears are no joke!! It was interesting to hear that polar bears (maybe other bears as well?) adjust their schedules when people are around, to hunt during the day.. I also love that they are acknowledging the indigenous culture locally and that we have representation amongst the contestants as well.

Seamonkey, I think they have grizzly bears there, not polar bears? Yeah, that was very disappointing about the arrow and Cubby, what a freak accident. But yeah, he did need to tap out because that was a serious injury.

Oops, yes, Grizzlies.. I follow a woman, Cecelia (@seijsejlija on instagram) who lives on Svalbard Island near the North Pole and with summer and all the daylight and the ice melted, they are seeing more polar bears now. So I had polar bears on the brain!! The one guy who noted that there was a grizzly cub with probably mama grizzly was right to be alarmed.. Mama Bears are double fierce!! Had to be heartbreaking to have to make that call so early but that wound was no joke. Fierce arrowhead..

My niece has a family of bears cuttingthrough her yard to get to her neighbors that throws out a raw chicken every day. I have asked her to report him to the police but she is afraid to do it. raw chicken can make the bears sick too. So I was looking at what they packed. one person took soap. no one took food. Cade Cole took soap.

The bears here.. Actually not right here, but in the edges of L.A. County have in a few cases started breaking into cars, garages and even homes to get at food and that is destructive and dangerous. Those neighbors definitely shouldn't be feeding bears! The cubs are so cute...

I love bears, but to be sleeping under a tarp when there are bear prints right down the way. No thank you! Yes, it will be interesting to see how this progresses with the lack of daylight and bitter, bitter cold. They all seem quite skilled but the mental part will wear them down quickly I think.

I just love this show. These people are so gutsy. I don't know how they can feel secure being all alone in such a dangerous environment. The mental game of being lonely is what takes most of them out. But honestly, they have nerves of steel to even go there in the first place. IMHO sitting on the couch!

Don't the bears hibernate at some point. One problem is the bears don't hibernate any more, food is always available in garbage cans, so now. They rob garbage all winter. My niece is afraid to throw garbage out by her house and takes it to the dump every week, leaves it in the house until then, she started encountering bears waiting on garbage day.

That's a good point, Sadies. Looked it up. Grizzlies that far north hibernate hard but the weeks before hibernation they eat hard too. Polar bears do not hibernate - didn't know that.

I gather that there are bear proof trash cans, but pretty sure the bears are plotting on how to get into them. But even more alarming is when they can smell some sort of food in a car.. they really damage a car while breaking in and this one bear has broken into a home twice and seems very fond of oreo cookies. I think climate change affect hibernation habits, but yes, having food available from humans (whether on purpose or not) during winter changes habits too. In this Alone, I wonder if these grizzlies have had much interaction with humans before this and being opportunists, it seems like having humans hunting in the area will give these bears incentive to poach their catch. They hopefully were careful about how they store food, dry food, etc, but in the past we've seen how bears (and other animals) will go to great lengths, and heights, to get to that food.. But they certainly cannot be sleeping with food nearby, either. I was thinking about the dark days to come.. I hope we get to see (and they got to see) the aurora displays. Cecilia posts from Svalbard today with pictures from around the clock, where the daylight is identical right now. It really interupts sleep cycles. These Alone people, those who make it to the dark days, will probably have difficultly with sleep cycles for sure. I feel spoiled with the first shows and want the next episode NOW. Here is some info about hibernation. I wonder if these Alone people will be there during the time when the bears are eating more to prepare? And it does mention climate change too. https://www.vitalground.org/hibernation-grizzly-bears-winter/

I know when I was in Alaska for the summer, where the light cycles aren't quite as severe, but it still requires adjustment... everyone had blackout curtains in the bedrooms, and often in other rooms of the house too. And in the winter, they had full spectrum house lights to simulate daylight to make their days longer. Not something I could live with, but it seems they got used to it.

There is an Alone podcast. (Not sure if this is new or not). The pods are longer than the episodes! I wasn't sure aobut that, but it was interesting and I listened while I was driving around running errands.

My schedule shows the next episode of season 11, followed by season 2 Episode 1 from Australia in the title, though the description says New Zealand...

So Alone Australia takes place in New Zealand, but the competitors seem to be Aussies. 10 people, definitely not as extreme as Arctic Circle in terms of darkness, cold, predators..

Oh gosh! Did anyone watch Australia? What an awful cliffhanger! Did that guy live? When he first said "tightness in his chest", I was screaming... "tap out now!"

I haven't seen Australia yet. I have been thinking that 3 contestants on US alone are chasing the same beaver.

LOL, Sadies, I think they are pretty far apart and I don't think beavers roam that far. Usually less than 3 miles and I think they are more than that far apart? I will say that the location this year for Australia seems a lot friendlier than the first season... that was miserable!

All beaver look alike.. 😁 Alone Australia (which has Aussie contestants but actually is located on the south island of New Zealand) aired right after Alone Arctic Circle. And I definitely watched it and that man said he was knackered (British and apparently Aussie slang for very tired) early on, then later she I think he had eaten or made fire, he repeated that phrase and things went downhill fast. He called them and then went silent and they were racing in a boat but also asking for paramedics to meet them at the dock and warning that they might required an airlift. Scary cliffhanger. He was one of the two somewhat older competitors. (both younger than I am, but still...)

He not only said he was knackered, he said he felt "tight across the chest".... and when he was lying down in his little shelter he complained of chest pain... I think they must have gotten to him in time... I can't imagine they lost him and we didn't hear.

Pretty sure if someone dies on a reality show that show would be pulled, like when a killer was identified among some men, a cheap version of Batchelor was pulled. Some where in the distant past I remember a show pulled when someone died.

I watched both shows but admit that I was a bit distracted but they did have tap outs, including the guy who was of concern last week.

Alone Australia finished and then had a reunion show, which was really enjoyable.

I enjoyed the reunion, but did not enjoy the adventure. So many of the participants did not have the heart to be there or the qualifications. Some of the unqualified lingered too long.
