this is major for me. I just got my invoice from my pest control company, where they are only approved to deal with wasp control (I'm allergic and they are so bad where I live). I read on my invoice that they placed mouse bait blocks on my property!!! We have nesting owls next door and this can kill them. I'm furious!!! I messaged them and told them to come get them immediately.

Hope they do as you asked, Karuuna, in a timely manner. Good thing you read invoices. I know so many people who don't. They just look at a total and pay the bill.

that's the thing Kappy, they didn't charge me for them just included it in my monthly service. So you're right, if I hadn't read the invoice, I would not have known! He's already been out to pick them up. It was a new tech, and apparently when I said can you re-bait the traps if they need it (referring to the wasp traps), he found a VERY old note on my file where I had asked them to assess my mouse problem. So he thought I should have mouse bait stations, and added them! He apologized profusely and promised that it wouldn't happen again. I'm satisfied with that. Hopefully, no owls got poisoned mice. (Altho I might be okay if some snakes did. ) FWIW, I use a live trap when the mice get too bad. It's a bucket trap, they climb up the ramp, fall in and eat cheese or peanut butter until I have a moment to snap the lid on and take them to the nearby reservoir for release.

Okay, was going to put this in silly gripes but this keeps happening over and over. I'm surprised the bank doesn't flag me, but it's not my fault, and I even asked somebody there, (why it keeps happening?) and she said we will probably never know. So I keep having to cancel my debit cards, because of scams, and get new ones. Happened again today. I will have to go to the bank Monday, to get a new card, because it's the weekend. So, I had a charge I didn't recognize again!! so had to cancel it. Also someone called saying they were from Amazon and wanted to know did I authorize a charge for over $1000 on my card?!! NO! I DID NOT! I even tried to call Amazon's customer service and the man said he couldn't understand me! for a change! I usually can't understand THEM! Anyway, it's cancelled now. I don't think they can do anymore. Just sick of it. Think I've probably had 6 or more different debit cards by now.

Hecka, are you very careful not to use your debit cards most places? Gas stations, grocery stores, ESPECIALLY online shopping. I use a credit card most places and then pay off the bill monthly.

Agree I never use debit card unless they make me (Costco makes me) You are so much more protected. It is not a big hassle to get a new credit card and you dont have to wait for them to research to put money back into your acct like you do with debit card

If you can't get a credit card, would using PayPal be a good option for online purchases? Also, maybe your bank should close your current bank account and open a new one for you. This way the scammers on the internet don't have your info anymore. And don't talk to people who call you! Just hang up!!! Callers are always scammers!

Don’t use debit cards in restaurants or any place where they walk off with your card to process. Restaurants are one of the worst for fraud instances for both credit and debit cards. There is very little recourse for fraud on debit cards. The money is taken from your account and is gone. At least, with credit cards, there are procedures to report and rectify the fraudulent purchase.

I had that happen to me with a credit card. I made note of where I had used it the same day the fraudulent charges were made and it was usually at a restaurant where they took the card somewhere else to ring up the charge. In one of those restaurants I always pay cash now, and I never went back to the other one. It was a pain in the butt to get a new card so I am even more careful now. I like the new method where they stick your card in a black box and you sign for it with them in your presence.

Also, altho it's a bit of a pain, there are reloadable cards you can buy online, then just put money on them as you need it. Once you get into that rhythm, it's not too bad.

I use my debit card everywhere for everything. So far the bank has given me back anything that is disputed. It's just a pain. I haven't had a credit card in many years. I even use my debit card with Pay Pal.

Paypal provides a layer of protection for your debit card, so I would use paypal online wherever you can. I really think you should consider one of those reloadable credit cards. Very easy to replace, much easier than your debit card.

Airport design has been going backwards for decades! I am sure this is not only my opinion. For years I took my mother to the airports. The airports were smaller back then, but I could still get a pass to take her to her plane. I would wave down a cart to drive her to the gate and she was fine even after her stroke. Now I am 80 with Copd and find most aids removed and new messes in place. I will limit it to Newark specifically because my trips begin and end there, although I see it applying to all. It started at the TSA line. Last year the tsa had a separate line for first class. No more. 1 short line for TSA pre approved and 1 line for all others ending at multiple TSAagents like 40 or so. That means the single line that replaced all the separate lines for agents is now one very long line we all have to run thru. This line is over 1 mile long, maybe 2 miles. I just recently recovered from only being able to walk to the end of my drive way. Not only did I have to walk this over 1 mile walkway, but I had to move fast as people were passing me and bumping into me with their suitcases. When I was nearly at end I was pulled out by a tsa person who wanted to call a medic. I used my inhaler and eventually let me thru. My pursed was xrayed, but no physical exam or shoes because over 75. Then have a ....... separate line for over 75 idiots. Now I could have avoided that by taking a wheel but that would have taken long as discussed later. Before Covid, there were some horizontal escalator like walk ways that sped the journey along a bit. They probably got sued, but they have been ripped out of the new mile÷ corridors to plane boarding. Mind you I got to the airport at 5.30 AM for an 8 flight. 2 1/2 before flight. Now I asked for a cart driver like they had as recently as last year, they don't have that any more. I would have to take a wheel chair. That means not the nice electric wheel chairs like they had 10 years ago when flying with broken leg. No, now they are wood and cloth. Instead of taking that I struggled to walk fast to my plane at the end of the longest arm of the terminal. I got there just before they were ending boarding.made the plane. Pretty sure I would have missed it if I took a wheelchair. I hate airports more each time.

Sadiesmom, I am an experienced traveler for over 50+ years, and particularly in the past 25 years or so conditions for the elderly and disabled have improved. If you book online, which I guess most people do nowadays, you do need to be vigilant with the booking process to make sure you look for the section about accessibility or perhaps extra services, and then specify wheelchair transport from check-in to boarding. You will skip the long lines to go through security AND be treated like royalty all the way to the plane. Oh, and for the record, I have only been through EWR Newark one time in my life, and it was 2003, during a record 100 year snowstorm, and we ended up sleeping near a heating grate in a window inside the airport, with loud public announcements blaring once per minute all night long. Of course, as baby boomers, the problem you and I are encountering is the same we have encountered all of our lives - there are way more of us than anybody ever planned for. You may not be a boomer, because you may be outside the birth dates, but by virtue of still being alive, you are indeed competing with the boomers. Also, Sadiesmom, if you are travelling first class AND need/deserve a wheelchair you are really being screwed. You have earned/paid for better treatment.

I know that wheel chairs are available. But every one I saw was wood and cloth basic wheel chairs. Low tech. New contractor. Yes it would have gotten me thru the line faster, but there was another mile to go and it was so close, could have missed the plane. No driven carts is not an improvement to me. Faster than foot Longer airports is not an improvement. I did not ask for a wheel chair because I wo uld take an electric cart which they had last year. Who could figure they would get rid of them? The carts are behind the TSA. The wheel chairs are in front. I guess I should call and get the latest airport changes. I did not. I still think that a large international airport should not have 1 TSA line with 20 booths at the end. Too long. Along with that, why is over 75 the exception to being checked? No shoes off, no body scan. Do terrorists know this?

We just booked airline tickets today (out of Chicago and not Newark) and they asked if special assistance was needed. I wonder if you checked that if more upgraded help would have been available?

I don't recall when this was exactly except it was pre covid, I had recently had surgery and couldn't walk far at the airport. We asked about being driven to our gate and were told no more carts. Asked why, the answer, people walking left, right and center completely engrossed in cell phones not getting out of the way.

Wheelchairs are absolutely the fastest way to get from check-in to the gate. Your driver wheels you through a special gate at the head of the security line and then takes you all the way to the plane. The multi-passenger carts are the slowest; walking, even impaired walking, is faster than a multi-passenger cart.

My experience was different. I am just wary of those flimsy looking chairs. I was fine with them 10 years ago when they were sturdier and augmented with power, although I still would like to see something where I was not completely helpless. I have no doubt that it is fast to cut the lines. But would prefer a horizontal elevator-like thing, where you could push a button equal to the plane gate but that would require merchant replacement and lost income. Now I am designing it in my head. No I have other work to do. The walk ways that were removed in terminal c were replaced by more businesses/mostly bars with seating at a skinny center area. Must maximize profit.
