I think with Dany dead, whatever appts she made died with her? Grey Worm certainly didn't seem obligated to stay.

It was a brilliant series. That's what is making the last couple of seasons (and especially this season) so disappointing for most viewers. Someone else wrote a funny story about what Jon could have told Grey Worm. It went something like this (with quite a few changes). Grey Worm: "Jon, What happened to Daenerys? Where did she go?" Jon: "It was awful. Drogon was burning the iron throne when he accidentally stepped on her and crushed her. I said, bad dragon! He was so embarrassed that he flew off with Daenerys still stuck to his foot!" Grey Worm: "OMG what are we going to do now?" Jon: "Well, I don't know if you know this but I'm her nephew ...." Yes I know the above is silly, but it just shows how many silly loose ends this final season had. Sansa and company went from "let's tell everyone that Jon is the real heir" to "let's just agree to send Jon off to the wall". What a complete waste of a significant story line. No one cared. Daenerys didn't care (right up to the end she was still in love with him) and Sansa, Arya and Tyrion just ended up ignoring it. One of the biggest most exciting reveals of the series and it meant absolutely nothing in the end.

Yeah, about this last thing. Why couldn't they just claim Jon as the king? Of course, he didn't want to be king, but then neither apparently did Bran "the Broken." They really should have taken this season to finish developing out those story lines, and then did a final season next year. Who made this decision? LOL!

Well that happened because the Game of Thrones show producers were offered a really sweet opportunity and will be writing and producing the next series of Star Wars movies for Disney. Sadly it appears they seemed to lose interest in properly finishing Game of Thrones as a result. Very frustrating for the fans!

I didn't know that. Does shed some light on it, however. That's great for them, but a shame for us!

Karuuna, in the Army we would have considered Grey Worm being without authority, sometimes called without portfolio, once Daenerys was dead. You could argue in a kind of legal way that technically nobody had to pay attention to him. Indeed the council kind of did that to a point as he was ready to execute Tyrion and Jon but was basically overruled. At the same time authority or not Grey Worm still had the Unsullied loyal to him so he couldn’t be totally ignored.

True, which is why they reached that compromise on Jon. Although some are speculating that the other Starks already knew that the Wildlings would be waiting for him, and that he wouldn't stay at the Watch.

It was interesting that they sent Jon back to the Wall and the Night’s Watch knowing that there was no Watch per se. In fact other than the Wildings who had decided to return north of the Wall, even though offered land south of the Wall, it appeared there were no other members of the Night’s Watch in the fort. Of course somebody closed the Wall gate, maybe symbolically ending the Jon storyline, after Jon and the Wildings exited.

Or maybe symbolically showing Jon turning his back on all things Kings Landing et al, so he could start a new life (and a new series?) of adventures beyond the Wall.

For sure whether the author or the producers ever pursue them or not the finale episode left a number of potential storylines hanging out there. I guess that’s part of the frustration with the finale. Not a lot of “happy ever after” answers.

yeah, it felt like a "life goes on" kind of thing, which was pretty unsatisfying after all the destruction and build up of hope for a better world. We like our happy endings, for sure.

Mack, that's why I posted my theory above. Jon's family and friends so easily banished him to the watch, that I think they planned this just to make it "look" like he was being punished to everyone that wanted him punished. When in reality they were sending him off to be with a group that adored him. I think they probably sent word to the wildlings to be there waiting.

It still sucks because it makes the Jon is the heir and a Targaryen storyline irrelevant. And like it or not, that was a very big deal. Or at least it was to many viewers (and all the main characters who knew) up until the final episode where they inexplicably no longer care. The whole ending is ridiculous. Where did all those Dothraki and Unsullied come from anyway? Did they spontaneously regenerate after the White Walkers killed them? Plus the Dothraki aren’t going to listen to anyone. It’s not like they’re all going to get on ships and leave. They’re terrified of the water and only loyal to Daenerys. Plus they have no ships! Grey Worm and the Unsullied wouldn’t even have known what happened to Daenerys. There’s no body and no dragon. Argh! And Bran literally did nothing for 8 seasons except make the occasional useless prophecy and claim that it’s impossible for him to be Lord of Winterfell because he’s the three eyed raven. But he can be King of the Seven Kingdoms? Worse, if he can see the future he knew that Daenerys was going to burn down Kings Landing and did nothing to stop her. That makes him as bad as she was. Worse actually, because presumably Bran wasn’t in an insane rage.

LOL, I was thinking about the difference between this and the very thoughtful, plotline ending of The Big Bang Theory.

Well it is a shame because Game of Thrones was such carefully crafted intricate story up until the end when they threw everything they’d carefully built up over seven seasons out the window. I’ve heard the ending of The Big Bang Theory was very good!

Maybe if the author gets around to writing the next books, he'll learn from this and give us a better ending!

Thanks for the link, Kar. That could be interesting. Thank goodness D & D aren’t involved. I wish the media would stop obfuscating about fan opinion being “split” about the finale. It’s not split. It went from the highest rated series to one of the lowest rated of episodes of any show on IMDB. Don’t anyone get me wrong. It’s not just that I don’t like the ending. If someone had told me halfway through the series that Tyrion would eventually end up essentially running everything, I would have been very happy. He’s a great character and clearly one worth cheering for. It’s the ghastly illogical inept way they got there that disappointed me. I suspect that George R.R. Martin’s book series will have a similar ending for most of the characters, except it will have been presented in a logical way that makes sense.

I watched the two hour documentary last night about the filming of the last season tiled 'The Last Watch'. You get a glimpse of the people behind the scenes and how hard they worked. You hear from a few extras and from the stunt man who played the Night King. You also get a peek at the moment that Kit Harrington learns for the first time what happens in the final episode. Apparently he was the only one who hadn't read the script before the table reading. It was quite emotional. I enjoyed it and found it to be a good way to say goodbye to the show.

I liked how they followed the extra who played a Stark guard for a number of seasons. He seemed to be such a big fan of the books and the show.

I love how they worked a Barry Manilow song into it! haha ("Could it be Magic") I never thought 2 of my favorite things would get connected like that. Barry Manilow and GOT.

Bought seasons 1 through 7 yesterday. BestBuy had the Blu-ray set on sale for like 20-25% off so we ordered it. Had the option to have it delivered so within two hours we had it in hand. Watched episodes 1 and 2 of season 1 last night in our surround sound theater. Caught a lot of little details we’d missed or forgotten. On the big screen with full Dolby ATMOS sound track it was quite something. At the rate of two or three episodes a weekend it’ll probably take most of the summer to get through the set. Also put ourselves in the pre-order list for season 8 but no firm date when that will be available.

OK, I realize I am 9 years late to the party as I just started Game of Thrones and wowza, what a cast of characters! I have long admired the work of Peter Dinklage and am awed with his work in GOT. So many deliciously deranged be it subtle or over the top characters. The writing is often witty and brilliant, which I appreciate and revere. I do think it is often far, far too crass and raunchy. Those instances often seem to exist only be cause they could do it/get away with it and it doesn't always serve the plot. I am almost finished with season 3. I was thinking how exciting it would be to be cast in the show and then wondering how numbered your days would be before your character met a gruesome end.

I finished GOT last week. Thank the gods both old and new for the ability to binge watch shows! Ms. Sugar is short on patience especially for something that was so often riveting. Many the night it was 2:00 or 3:00 am and the cliff ending of an episode rendered it impossible for me to go to bed without watching the next installment. My admiration for Peter Dinklage knows no bounds, what a gifted actor. Loved seeing some growth and decency in Jamie with Brienne. Shame he was so disgustingly attached to Cersie. Why does Tyrion maintain that Cersie loved her children? I can't recall seeing any instances of that. Perhaps she claimed to do so but actions v words?!? Cersie loves Cersie and Jamie most of the time. Cersie did not have a single redeeming trait. Poor Jon Snow, was he based on Job? I think it is rare, dragon rare, to view a show that had so many well defined characters that actually furthered the storyline and/or weren't suddenly missing. (Remember Lost?) I do think the final season was treated a bit blithely. It seemed rushed and in a bizarre way incomplete despite it showing some sort of end for most of the remaining characters. I may go back and read all the postings in this thread although it may take nearly as long as watching all 8 seasons. I have been watching various youtube postings about the show, actors and making of GOT. The special effects were phenomenal. It is a bit disappointing to watch any making of videos and see the green screen.

Babyjaxmom, loved your years ago post referring to Joffrey as "Nellie Olson doppleganger, Joffrey. What a vile, insufferable brat!" Made me laugh and laugh and giggle.

Sugar, I was late to the game also. The finale season sucked and was rushed because the producers/writers were trying to get it done so they go work on their dream project with star wars. Irony is that after the final season, they stepped down from the star wars project.
