Just got my first real smartphone and I cannot figure out how to make it do QR codes. It is a Galaxy A20. Online they suggest going to phone settings and turning on the QR option. I do not have that option. Another site says to open camera and find 3 horizontal lines at top to change setting. I do not have those lines. I even downloaded a QR app, but all that does is scan my QR code and give me an ad for something different. I do not even have a teen or 20 something to ask....

That's cool, Christy. I'd help out but, unfortunately, I don't know much about Android phones. The iPhones just recognize QR Codes automatically.

Christy I downloaded an app and it works fine. Maybe try a different app? I also have a Galaxy.

I have a galaxy A21 and all I do is open the camera and get the code in its view. There was nothing special to do.

Christy, do you have a Best Buy near you? The employees there are always so helpful with my techy questions. They usually have Samsung people there

I got a warning the other day that QR codes are being used by scammers, so to be careful to see where they are sending you and suggesting that if possible go to the store for your device to download anything, rather than using codes on social media. I had not bothered to use them, other than I have the QR code for my proof of vaccine on my phone to use when that proof is requested. One of the warnings came from the FBT.. said you can be redirected to phishing sites where what you enter is used.

Just to keep you all updated... I found a 20 something at work and handed her my phone. I now have google lens that reads QR codes. Thank you for your suggestions and for not laughing at me.

We 70-somethings and our friends went to a restaurant today where there was a QR code thingie on the table, telling us to view our menu there. The other husband asked me if I knew how to do that, and I said I did, and then his wife pulled out her phone and said SHE could do it, so we both pulled up our QR reader phone apps, and neither one of us could make it work, even though both of us have successfully been doing it other places. Luckily we are all old and not much is expected of us. LOL.

I always tell the waitress/waiter that my phone can't do that and I need a paper menu.

I got a message on my phone today that says I can now unlock my phone. Is that necessary? I've been using it for almost three months now without unlocking it. I don't get it.

Unless you want change service carriers, you don't need it unlocked.

Yes that’s the only reason to unlock. It lets you change service providers.

I sure don't want to read a menu on my phone (or even on my 9" tablets for that matter.

Hecka, I seem to recall you bought your phone from Tracfone? and got a pretty good discount. I think they make you keep the phone locked to just Tracfone for a few months, so you won't take advantage of them just to get a phone at a great discount.

Yes, bought from Tracfone. I looked up their policy. It said I have to have service with them for a year before it can be unlocked. And it would cost $300. No thanks.

I got a new phone, galaxy A54 5G with Android 14 Baseball, (the camera quit working on my old one), but I can't get the text dictation working correctly with punctuation. Period and comma come out as words instead of punctuation, but exclamation point comes out as punctuation. Go figure. I'm using google messages, just like I was on the phone. Does anyone know how to make the punctuation work all the way while dictating?

Naja, I've had a Galaxy for a few years, and with a recent update, I have the same problem. Can't figure out how to fix it either. Did not have this problem before the last update.
