We finished "Dr. Thorne" last night and loved it (of course). Definitely predictable, but delightful in its predictability.

If you're missing Downton Abbey (how could you not?), check out "The Crown" on Netflix. Fabulous retelling of Queen Elizabeth II's story from her wedding to Prince Phillip to current (in future seasons). Every season covers a decade of her reign, and they expect to produce 6 seasons. I just read an article on what to expect in Season 2. One of the commenters said, "This show has filled the Downton Abbey sized hole in my heart." Exactly. https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/other/the-crown-season-2-everything-we-know-so-far/

Love the character Lady Mary, but not particularly the actress.

Julian Fellowes has revealed he's planning to pen a 'Downton Abbey' prequel later this year https://www.list.co.uk/article/88638-downton-abbey-to-return-for-prequel/ Sounds good to me!

I greatly enjoyed watching Downton Abbey in its first run on PBS. I'm currently rewatching the series on Amazon Prime. The show is even richer and deeper than I remembered it. Although I remember each episode, I realize how much I missed the first time around. I love seeing all the detail and nuances, and viewing it from the perspective of knowing how it all turns out. I love all the character arcs, how complex the interactions and growth of most everyone. It's so well written and acted. I'm greatly looking forward to the Downton Abbey movie which is coming out next September.

A prequel??? Mmmmm, I was hoping for a sequel. After all the years of hearing of this successful series I discovered it about a couple of months ago on our local French channel and then found the whole series on Netflix and watched it again. I understand now why it was so successful, I loved everything about it. But a prequel?... The last episode ended in such a cheerful note and all I was saying... "those poor devils don't know what's coming, they're still shaken by that Great War and a worse one is coming in just about 10 years" and I simply felt very very sorry for them. However I was curious to see how that world was really shaken with WW II. A prequel? Nah...it would be too much of the same and I tend to be more interested in their future, not their past.

Same actors so I would assume it to be a sequel. They can't youthen the actors. I thought I read that the movie picks up where the series left off with possibly a five-year gap.

The movie just filmed is a sequel. The prequel idea would have to be made with different actors, for obvious reasons.

Yes it's a movie for the theater. That's what's so exciting, besides the fact they're doing it at all! I should also mention the music for Downton Abbey is written by Scottish composer John Lunn and is first rate. It's a huge part of the impact and success of the show, at least for me.

There is a special on PBS tonight called Downton Abbey Live. I don't think it has been on before.

I had heard about it. It's called "Downton Abbey: A New Era." No one in our house will go with me to see it, so I'll just wait till it's on PBS or Amazon. I started rewatching DA during the pandemic. I watched all the way up to the last episode of season 3, when I decided I just couldn't watch Matthew die again. So I stopped watching. ðŸ˜

I know what you mean about the music, Brenda. It's like hearing the voice of an old friend again. I went to see the new Star Wars movie (actually all of them) with my son in 2015, and I almost cried when they played the opening theme. All of that John Williams music is so beautiful!

Oh yes, and the music in a darkened theater. It's magic.
