Watching the weather forecast here in San Antonio closely. Pretty much all of the forecasting models say we’re going to get hit by potentially major rain Wednesday or Thursday. Depending on the model the forecast is for at least 2 inches and potentially up to 6 inches. Normally that’s good news as we need the rain but if the higher amounts happen we could be in for significant flooding. After a wetter than normal early summer we haven’t had much rain at all. My home weather station records rainfall and it is showing no measurable rain at our house in the past 30 days. It resets if there is measurable rain and I think it was like 1/10 of an inch 30 days ago. So what’s the issue? Well if we get a sudden and heavy downpour the area is in for flash flooding as the ground is like concrete and won’t initially absorb a heavy downpour. Could be bad in the lowlands around San Antonio. We’re in hill country and flooding at our house is not an issue.

Supposed to be 91 tomorrow and then work its way up to 95 by Saturday.

Still watching the radar here. If the future path forecast is correct we should get a significant thunder, lightning, and rain event around 10-11 AM. Yesterday evening and early this morning turned out to be a lot less than expected with a very brief downpour around 7 PM and another at 5 AM this morning. My weather station is only reporting 1/4 inch between the two.

Rain finally showed up as forecasted. Coming down around an inch an hour. Should only last another hour as the storm moves to the northeast. Temperature really dropped from 82F to 72F once the system arrived.

We’ve gotten just over 2 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. While there was some flooding in the lowlands around San Antonio it wasn’t as bad as widespread flash floods. As it was the rain was steady but not the almost tropical heavy downpours we can get. That allowed the ground to soften up and accept the rain rather than running off immediately. Now the authorities are concerned that the ground has become saturated and won’t accept much more rain without flooding.

We have the great-niece and her husband, who are both into building out the family trees, coming to our house tomorrow to take custody of the family records I have carefully preserved and moved all over the entire country for over FIFTY YEARS. God bless that child!

Sea levels along the West Coast will begin to rise by up to a foot this month as a series of pulses of warm water called Kelvin waves hit the shoreline and move north, sparking concerns about beach erosion and flooding in areas already impacted by climate change and El Nino.

Happy Saturday Everyone! Hot and hazy today with a SPARE THE AIR in place and highs 10–20° above average. A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect until Monday 10 PM for all areas away from the coast where a compressed marine layer will produce patchy dense fog and comfortable temps. Higher elevations will remain hot and dry, with elevated fire-weather concerns continuing through Thursday. Friday, the ridge is finally expected to weaken, bringing the potential for cooler conditions.
