Naja, I've been meaning to ask. How do you wash your dog blankets and not end up with hair all over inside the washing machine?

I figure if anyone would know, you would. :-)

RN I don't really do anything special. It's a front loader and the hair gathers right in front in the little groove and I just pull it out in one little glob.

RN Thanks. I have a front loader, too, but it leaves hair all inside the machine. I wipe what I can with a paper towel and then I have to vacuum it out.

RN I was so pleased to find out the green things poking out of the rocks in front of my house are Lilies of the Valley! They are just starting to bloom, but now it's going to rain for a week and probably ruin them. You wouldn't believe the beautiful scent as you past them.

Thank goodness they are in the front yard and not the back since they are poisonous to dogs.

Acccckkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!

Lily of the Valley!!!

I Love them too, and the scent. But they are horribly invasive where I live. Im fighting a losing battle with them.

And years ago, my bil came over when I wasn't home and rotatilled my flower bed in the front of the house to get rid of them.

They multiply by rubbers and chopping them up just makes so many more!

But they really are pretty.

We had Lilies of the Valley in Detroit in the fifties and they just stayed in their corner
, no running amok. And they didn't seem daunted by rain. And came back after snow, too.

Ha! You were lucky, Sea. I seem to have perfect conditions for it.

From AI:

Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis) is highly aggressive and considered invasive in many parts of North America, particularly in shady, moist, woodland areas. It spreads rapidly via extensive underground rhizomes, forming dense, thick carpets that choke out native plants.

It is difficult to eliminate and often escapes gardens into neighboring areas.

Key Characteristics of Its Invasiveness:

Rapid Spread: It spreads through thick, underground rhizomes that are difficult to remove completely.

Durable and Hardy: It thrives in various light conditions, from full sun to deep shade, and is hard to kill with conventional gardening methods.

Hard to Remove: Digging up the roots is difficult, and small pieces left behind can grow into new plants.

Shades Out Alternatives: Its dense, uniform growth prevents native woodland plants from growing.

Control and Management Methods:Mechanical Removal: Repeated digging is required over several years, as breaking the roots can cause more plants to grow.

Smothering: Covering the area with thick plastic for a full growing season can help, though it is not always effective.

Chemical Treatment: Applying systemic herbicides like glyphosate may be necessary to kill the rhizomes, often requiring multiple applications.

Physical Barriers: Installing deep landscape edging at least 18 inches down can help contain the rhizomes.

Due to its invasive nature, it is often recommended to plant native alternatives that provide ground cover without the aggressive spread.

Hmm.. Well ours just grew in a corner with brick walls on 2 sides, grass . We lived there 9 plus years, not sure if they came with the house, built in 1925, or if mom planted them.

No woodlands, though there was a tree in the middle of the lawn.

They seemed sweet and harmless.

RN When I first saw this house, the green part was making a lovely ground cover over the ugly rocks. I didn't know what they were at that point. That part stays all summer and I love it.

I was reading that they will stay contained when they are in a spot like mine are.

RN I am sweating and out of breath! All my packages got delivered to the house across the street that always has all the commotion going on, and all their packages got delivered here! So it took about three trips I got all their packages across the street and I got all mine back across here. It's so humid out.

But then again, that might be a good thing. You shouldn't let them near your home if you can help it. That's the vibe I'm getting.

RN it was definitely the wrong time to stock up on dog food! 18 lb bag of dry and a case of 24 cans. Plus, one of those things to wind your garden hose up on!

Naja, become besties with ALL of the immediate neighbors as fast as you can. Take the cutest dogs, or ALL of the dogs out walking the neighborhood as fast as you can. Stop to talk to all of the neighbors whenever you can. Put a sign out in your yard.

Or not.

RN Oh how I wish I could walk the dogs. My right hip freezes up after a block. Then that evening there will be so much pain and doctors won't prescribe anything for pain anymore. On the days like that, I take 4 ibuprofens. And since I now live only a couple blocks from the dispensary, I have been dabbling with CBD vapes for pain. My hands are worse than ever. If a doc tells me to use a "cream" again I'll scream. The joint at the base of my thumbs is the worst.

ok, what did I come here for? OH!
My old neighbors (Ken and Barb, really :-)) just dropped off a package my mom accidentally sent to my old address. The guy who bought my house went to their house and asked if they knew how to find me. My old neighbors said the people in my old house said they ripped out all the carpet and put in hard wood floors and added another full bath.
