One of the problems with the Olympics is they build a lot of the venues specifically for the games, they’re often behind schedule and they don’t have the time and expertise or perhaps the finances to get it perfect.

I’m not sure if this is something to be proud of or an embarrassing statistic given Canada’s surprising lack of success at the Olympics, but 90% of the world’s curlers are Canadian.

(I mean Canada does well, but they’re not as dominant as one might expect, given the above.)

The game originated in Scotland so it’s kind of cool that Canada and Scotland are facing off for the men’s gold medal.

Dipo, there was also a controversy about the ice in the figure skating arena. Seems quite a mess.

I understand one of the short track skaters took a skate to the face. :-(

Not a single comment on how amazing the women’s free skate was? I adored every second of it but by far Alysa’s skate - and actions before and after are one of the best moments in sports in my 45 years watching (started at age 5). I had no idea millions of others shared in my first thought too….pure JOY to watch. The gold was just a bonus. I didn’t care just like she didn’t. But so deserving!

I’ll add that being a Canadian with respect to the curling I naturally want to cheer for Canada. But while I don’t think that Kennedy was deliberately cheating I was dismayed by his reaction and the profanity. For that reason, I’ll be more than happy if the British team (Scotland) wins.

I’m sorry I didn’t post about that. Alysa’s skating was fantastic and her joy was truly a treasure. One of the most joyous moments of the Olympics for me.

We’re very fortunate in Canada that our Olympic coverage is spectacular. I was able to watch the entire woman’s final. Start to finish including the warm up skating. Every athlete like you’re sitting in the arena. We love the Olympics.

Oh Legalboxer, I have told so many people how fabulous it was, so beautiful and joyful, I guess I forgot to come in here, LOL.

You've said a mouthful there, Jimmer. But, yes, Canada is far and away the world expert on curling. And I did know it originated in Scotland, home of my ancestors via the Australian branch of the family tree.

Well, I'll have to watch the women's curling game on replay since I'll be out shopping for the BLIZZARD that's coming tonight and the weather service couldn't figure out that one was coming until yesterday.

So, you don't have to put the results in a spoiler box, but if you could try not to let the results show up in the new messages, much appreciated. :-)

BTW, do professional hockey players get to play in the Olympics?

Yes they do now and they are for this Olympics. I can’t remember when it was first allowed by the Olympics but at least since 2010. However, they don’t always play because the NHL has to agree to shutdown for them to play in the Olympics.

That was a great curling game between the U.S. and Canada. Fun to watch and very close right up until the end. I’m only sorry it wasn’t for the gold and silver.

Not to take anything away from the other athletes, but Klabo of Norway has to be the most impressive athlete at the Winter games. Didn’t matter the length of the race, short, mid or long…he won them all. Just finished up running the equivalent of a marathon on cross country skis by taking off on the last hill, leaving the guy in #2 in the dust, or snow in this case. Just Wow. What a performance by an athlete !

I finally got to watch. I can't believe that last shot by the American. Oh, well.

I wish both teams got to win medals. 4th is the best place the American women have ever won, and the Canadians hadn't medaled in a long time.

I'm very happy the Canadian team captain won, though. She's the best female curler in the world, and an Olympic medal is all she was missing.

No question that Homan is a great curler and as far as I know a genuinely nice person. The U.S. played very well. Like I said earlier, I’m sorry it couldn’t have been gold and silver for them.

And Canada won the men’s curling. Great Britain played well and I like them a lot as well.

I’ll add that there is so much pressure on the Canadian curlers and hockey players. So many Canadians just expect them to win and unfortunately anything less than a gold medal is a disappointment for many. It’s kind of like team USA in basketball. It also doesn’t help that the last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup was unbelievably 32 years ago with so many Canadians playing for American teams.

The Canadian public has to accept that other countries in the world are getting very good at these sports.

The Figure Skating Gala was really fun, repeats tonight. I just wish they wouldn't make it so dark, LOL, for the performances. Panda guy was funny and the Italian Team cracked me up with all the different dances... I will have a better thought for YMCA now that it has been used for good,

I just saw an interview with Rachel Homan and she and her teammate started curling together when they were 11 years old!

Grooch, Tara P was really fighting tears after the game.... felt so bad for her!

I was very proud of the US teams this year... with the excitement generated by the mixed team silver, and both the men's and women's teams going so far! Maybe in 4 years.... hoping that I'll be around to see it, but the odds aren't great for that.

I've been doing lots of reading of articles with actual players. I found it interesting, like in the article with the US silver medalist, that the no finger touch rule is a rule, but many have been ignoring it successfully for years now. He thinks it's a big fuss over nothing. Yet other teams, think it's wrong to violate any rule and just because it's being done doesn't make it okay.

The Canadian seems annoyed and says he was "set up" ... but I don't see how you can be set up by something you've been called out on, refused to comply with, and then recorded doing? No one forced him to continue that practice, and he was told by the other team. Or they complained to officials (not sure which one is true).

It seems to me that whoever is in charge of regulating play has a bit of a crisis. Either the rules must be followed or not. They recently added tech to make sure a players hand is not on the handle at the hog line. Seems that maybe more tech is in order? The players, like Homan, did not have faith in the officials... it was an official that called Homan out on violating the rule, but she insisted that she did not. I don't know what the answer is, since they seemed to resent adding officials and instant replays would slow play down substantially.

Whatever they do, this is something I think they need to attend to. Maybe we've sadly passed the era where this is a "gentleman's" game.

On another note, in what I think is a fascinating observation of humanity.... all this controversy has actually raised interest in curling. Seems it's a lot more fascinating sport when there is intrigue and arguments to be had on both sides. Maybe that will be a good thing.... eventually. LOL

In the meantime, health problems abound, so I'm off to the ER today. Wish me luck! Sigh.

Hmmmm.... another Ice issue, apparently 3 sleds crashed/rolled over in the 4 man bobsled last night.

Such a bummer.

I was dissappointed in the NBC Coverage of the Gala last night, but flipped over to USA and they seemed to have the full event.

Apparently after it was over the teams assembled for a group photo and Ilia and Yuma did a Flip off, then the other two men did a skate off and signaled the flip was too much so did a somersault, it was really funny. I saw it on YouTube. Seemed like the group had some fun after the Gala had officially finished.

Good Luck Karuuna!

US hockey players honored the late Johnny Gaudreau after their gold medal win ❤️

His family was in the stands to see the moment.
