Wow first men’s hockey gold medal for the U.S. in 46 years since the miracle on ice in Lake Placid. It reminds us of how hard these things are to accomplish! Tough loss for Canada but certainly sweet for the U.S. The American goalie was great. Someone elsewhere commented that unfortunately now he has to go back to suffering playing for the Winnipeg Jets in Manitoba. (I’m joking by the way. The Jets aren’t very good and Winnipeg is freezing cold but it’s certainly not all bad.)

They have to have that rule in curling because for obvious reasons they can’t have players chasing the rock down the ice trying to push it this way and that to get it to go in a certain direction. That would be completely ridiculous. However, almost all curlers recognize that a slight light accidental touch against the stone in the process of releasing it gives you no positive advantage and doesn’t have any impact on the game. To try to officiate that would cause much more problems than it would solve because they’d have to stop the game and look at replays, etc. It would slow the game down, make it less enjoyable, and it also would create a problem with the time clocks because it would mean that players could stand around talking all that time while the rule is being discussed. Trying to fix a problem that doesn’t really impact the game could lead to other worse problems. So the way it’s always been handled is unless it is something egregious, no one cares. That’s why it was such a shock when the Swedish team suddenly decided to make an issue out of it. It’s been so much fun watching the curling and discussing it here!

I would remind that World Curling clarified that touching the stone is against the rules, even if accidental, and the stone should be removed from play. Against the rules is against the rules. Not following the rules does impact the game. Many professional players have spoken out against allowing this. Others have said it's not a big deal. Like any other sport, there are ways to make sure people follow the rules. Clocks can be stopped, officials or technology can be added. Simple enough. Restore the integrity. And it's not true that no one cares, because clearly some people were taking advantage, since it seemed to routinely happen to some teams more than others. That's why there were complaints. And with that, curling is over for me. Debate by yourself. I know you won't be able not to.

At least Johnny and Tara explained what the heck was going on ... I appreciated that, LOL. But I was annoyed they didn't have the athletes out dancing to the DJ, why have them sitting in their seats!

Karuuna, the 1984 Olympics Opening Ceremony will always be my favorite because my husband and various friends of ours were participants of the Opening Ceremonies at the LA Coliseum.

nbcnews 10m With gold today in U.S. men’s hockey, Team USA clinched its 12th gold medal of these Games, the most the U.S. has ever won at a single Winter Olympics. Norway’s Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo completed his historic gold medal sweep of the men’s cross-country skiing events by winning his sixth race and set the record for the most golds by one athlete in a single Winter Olympics. Alpine skier Lucas Pinheiro Braathen won the giant slalom to make South America's first Olympic medal a gold medal.

One of the best Olympics by far in my lifetime. Every event was just thrilling and fun to watch. Which usually is the case at any Olympics but something special at these - including the huge comradery among almost all the athletes. Saw it in Paris but evrn more so at these games.

For sure. The Olympics were so much fun! The most important thing by far is how much we all enjoyed it. It brings people around the world together for a wonderful positive experience. My most fervent wish is that we can all be back here having a fun discussion and enjoying the 2030 Winter Olympics.

The next Olympics in the French Alps will be a similar format, where there are 4 areas for the games: Nice, Briançon, Savoie, and Haute-Savoie. 2030

Back to legalboxer on the previous page, yes, I loved watching the ice skaters this year more than any other Olympics. I am old enough to remember when they were pitted against each other and we weren't suppose to enjoy skaters from other countries. This year was just joyful to watch. We were rooting for Alysa Liu from the beginning as she is from Northern California (bay area). Her free skate was so enjoyable. The crowd loved it as well! And Kaori Sakamoto from Japan was so wonderful in her last skate in the Olympics. I loved seeing the camaraderie among all the skaters in this Olympics. The team comp got me to watch all the various formats of ice skating. I am now a huge fan of Danny O'Shea and Ellie Kam. His manner and grace are what we should all strive for. I felt for Ilia but know he will come back strong. There were so many young skaters from various countries who going to be dynamite in four years. Chock and Bates should have had gold in my opinion but what do I know, lol.
