The problem I have with the word cheating is exactly because of the way it is defined. There is no chance that either Rachel Homan (who is a three time World Champion) or Bobby Lammie were cheating. They just accidentally grazed it after releasing it. Using the word cheating in this situation is derogatory and insulting and very uncalled for. I'll give another example. Anyone who watches tennis knows what a foot fault is (it's when a server's foot touches the baseline before making contact with the ball during a serve). Accusing Rachel Homan of cheating is like accusing Serena Williams of cheating when she is called for a foot fault.

Nope, not the same thing. One is clearly accidental, one is on purpose. Unless you are in their heads, you have no idea.

Why would you be so certain that one is on purpose and the other is accidental?

Are the tennis players looking down at their feet? Can their feet feel the fault line? LOL. They know if they touched the rock, they can feel it! That they didn't own up to it, which is the standard in curling, says it. And the Canadian male player's profane response says a lot also, that he doesn't care about rules violations. At any rate, this, like many convos with you, has escalated to the point of absurdity. I have no more time for it, and will NOT be responding further.

Yes, it can be hard to accept when people disagree with you on issues. Well, that’s a shame. I’m sorry you feel the need to make it personal like this.

LOL I think Serena also has a pretty good idea where her feet are. I’m sure that anyone who actually watched Homan and Lammie could tell by their reactions that they were deeply disappointed by what happened. I certainly didn’t see much anger, perhaps a little frustration, dismay and disappointment. These people work very hard to get to where they are and the last thing they want to do is mess it up. Thank you for your nice reply, Juju. I’m not sure what your friends will say. LOL I can guess but we’ll see. Touching the stone in that way is a rule violation but I wouldn’t describe it as cheating and it did nothing to help their game.

It's not personal, I just don't have time for it, and as I said, at some point *I* think just going round and round again becomes absurd. Time to let it go! One would think that someone has the right to decide how their limited time and energy should be spent without being accused of making it personal. Guess not.

Kar, I’ve given it some thought and I don’t want to let it go. What you said about Canadians like Rachel Homan hurt. She isn’t a cheater. She makes mistakes (like everyone) but to say she is cheating is just wrong! You’re more than welcome to move on but I’ll defend decent people like her and Bobby Lammie who make mistakes.

For Jimmer's curiosity: quote:Juju - (political cursing and apologies to Canadians and pleasantries deleted for brevity) Okay, back to [curling], my dearly beloved and highly credentialed friends on ice sports, how say you? Cheating? CHEATING?? CANADIANS CHEATING??? ON CURLING????
Their reply: quote:We did happen to be watching that game, and Kennedy , who is one if the nicest men to play the game, for over 35 years, would Never try to cheat!! His record stands for itself.
My two cents - do curling contestants wear gloves? Perhaps big, heavy gloves?

The nice man used all that profanity when called out? Also a rules violation? Not buying it. No gloves.

The US is Switzerland women are playing right now. 1 rock left in the 2nd end. Im happy because they have the female commentator that I really like. She explains the game so well, by telling what kind of shots they need to make and why. She explains the strategy. It makes the game so much more enjoyable.

That was an exciting game for sure! If anyone is interested in seeing it for themselves, here is a link to a very short video of Bobby Lammie from Britain throwing the rock and the call against him. The Rachel Homan call was similar. You can judge for yourself whether he was deliberately cheating or not. https://www.reddit.com/r/Curling/s/BHdNG0Wroh
