Evacuations underway near Juneau, Alaska as a glacial outburst release is expected to cause major flooding.
It could be the third year in a row the Mendenhall Valley has seen high water/devastation following a glacial lake outburst flood.
Flooding on the Mendenhall River is forecasted to reach historic levels with a crest of 16.6 feet tomorrow, which is even higher than last year’s record level.
The city of Juneau is advising residents in the 17-foot flood inundation area to evacuate.

The glacial flooding that sent residents of Alaska's capital city scrambling this week has become an annual ordeal for those who live along the picturesque river that winds from the nearby Mendenhall Glacier.

BREAKING: Hurricane Erin becomes a Category 2. Rapid intensification is now underway.
Forecast to become a dangerous & large Category 4 hurricane. I wouldn't be surprised if this storm makes a run for Category 5.
While, the chance of landfall in the U.S s is low which is good, but life threatening rip currents are expected this week along the East Coast so heed local officials. Still monitor forecasts closely, just in case a change in forecast/track occurs.

Hurricane Erin underwent rapid intensification, strengthening from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane within 24 hours while traversing the open Atlantic—a phenomenon documented in only a handful of Atlantic storms on record.

Category 5 Hurricane Erin has trended west, however, it remains well offshore of the U.S East Coast. Stay weather AWARE if you live on the East Coast, but no need for alarm or panic - Erin is expected to pass 150 to 350+ miles offshore.
🚨 Turks & Caicos - take action now, at least tropical storm impacts expected to commence soon.
Bahamas & Newfoundland, Canada - While, Erin may pass just offshore -- there is a chance that Erin may clip these areas. Monitor forecasts closely.

The eyewall of Category 5 Hurricane Erin is now fully visible on the Puerto Rico radar and it's very extreme.
I have never tracked a eyewall on a hurricane that is so tiny, but yet -- very violent. This is just insanity. Truly unbelievable.

REMINDER:
• Nuking hurricanes won't stop them. That's a very bad idea.
• A sharpie won't steer a hurricane away.
• Category 6 or Category 7+ hurricanes do NOT exist. The scale goes from Category 1 to Category 5.

Hurricane Erin will cause up to 100 foot waves well offshore of the United States over the next couple days!
This hurricane will cause life-threatening rip currents and surf up and down the East Coast of the United States and the Canadian Maritimes, with higher wave heights. The Outer Banks in North Carolina will likely see some tropical storm impacts, with tropical storm gusts and coastal flooding a possibility.
Waterspouts are also expected over the waters.
