Sahara dust showed up today. Supposed to get worse over the next few days. Makes the sky hazy and traps some heat.

I have been on a cruise ship hundreds of miles off the western African coast when Sahara sands hit our decks, but never experienced them in Texas, which we left in 1995, um, 30 years ago.

Going to 90 today, it did cool off last night so it feels nice out so far. Skies are blue and clear with little to no breeze.

The heat wave searing Europe is making a compelling case for one of the most ambitious climate targets ever set by Brussels, but many in the EU have yet to be convinced

UPDATE: 7 unaccounted for following fireworks facility explosion, Cal Fire says

(FOX40.COM) — Seven people are unaccounted for following an explosion at a fireworks facility in Yolo County, Cal Fire said Wednesday.

Two people who were injured in the fire are expected to recover.

Cal Fire said it is working with the property owner to determine the whereabouts of those missing.
According to Cal Fire, approximately 158 PG&E customers are without power as a result of the fire.

The facility near Country Road 23 and Country Road 86A in Esparto caught fire around 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The fire created a number of spot fires in the area, collectively referred to by Cal Fire as the Oakdale Fire, which have burned roughly 78 acres. At least one home and a car were destroyed by the fire
The fire was last reported as 0% contained around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Evacuation orders remain in place for the Esparto area but authorities said Madison residents are cleared to return home.

Weird. It looks like we have lots of clouds but they are only white and fluffy, no black ones holding rain. The wind is quite gusty, it feels nice out with temps going to 81.

I was hearing sirens and fire trucks so the wind might have kicked up a fire.

Shocking video shows the moment power poles and lines collapsed onto vehicles during a dust storm in Las Vegas.
The driver said he had to exit his car through the passenger side because power lines were blocking his side.
Experts say, should this ever happen to you, STAY in your vehicle until crews can verify the lines are de-energized.

Wall of water on the Guadalupe River northwest of Bergheim (Ammans Crossing) pegged the flood gauge from 5.46 to 28.29 feet in 90 minutes.

Ammans Crossing is ~12 miles ESE of Comfort, Texas, which got walloped with a 26-foot rise in 45 minutes.

In just ONE HOUR, the Guadalupe River in Comfort, TX rose 26 feet. That's an average of a one foot rise every 2-3 minutes. Catastrophic flooding is underway in the Texas Hill Country. With additional rainfall, it could go significantly higher still.

It’s a real disaster for a couple counties north of San Antonio. Here at our house we’ve only gotten 1 inch of rain but not even 60 miles north of us they are reporting 15+ inches of rain in a very short time. There are all sorts of down river flood warnings but the river up there does not run through San Antonio so that shouldn’t be a local problem. Emergency first responders from the county and city have been sent north to help and the governor has mobilized the National Guard. Still lots of people unaccounted for and that will take probably days or more to resolve the final number of dad and missing. Right now there are 13 confirmed deaths and 20-23 children unaccounted for at a summer camp.

Horrifying. We have done inner tubes on the Guadalupe River in the before times of climate change, when it was no more than 2-4' deep, a delightful float, and people's backyards sloping from no more than 15' above the river. I cannot imagine.
