Rn, Squirrels are rascals. LOL they’re just lucky they’re so good looking! I randomly found out a while ago that they can have surprisingly long lifespans if they live in urban areas.

That’s wonderful, Dogdoc.

RN Not a fan of Squirrels. I've had a long, bad, property destructive history with them where I used to live. To me, they are just rodents with good hair and PR.

RN, we learned the hard way never to fall in love with Douglas squirrels in the Pacific Northwest. We never even knew they existed until we had lived in the PNW for about 5-7 years, and we saw two of them chasing each other around the trunk of a huge tree. They are chipmunk-sized, but are squirrels, cuter than the dickens. But you don't want to fall in love with them because they go flat real quick if you live on a busy street, which we did. For some reason these particular squirrels don't have an innate sense of the speed of cars, and they always think they can outrun a car in crossing the street, but they can't, so they go flat under the car tires because they are so small.

So, new Juju rant: NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH A DOUGLAS SQUIRREL

RN Thank you Jimmer

RN I like squirrels. I don't know why they have to keep crossing the same street back and forth.

RN One client told me that there was a squirrel in their yard that fell in love with their cat. The squirrel waited outside their door, and followed the cat where ever she went in the yard.

RN a dog owner brought in her little dog with a cut on its head .The dog chased the squirrel up a tree, and the squirrel threw things at the dogs head.

RN Dogdoc, can squirrels get rabies? I've read both that they can and can't on the internet.

And again, congrats on Beth. I'm sure with you , she will be a fast learner.

RN From what I was told, squirrels can get rabies, but it is very rare.

RN Bats, raccoons and skunks are more commonly a source for rabies.

RN: I am the proud owner of a brand new Subaru Outback.

I was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer truck with over 200,000 miles on it. I'm guessing because the speedometer didn't work, and it was gasping it's last breaths.

I knew I needed a new car, but I could have waited, but who knows what's going to happen in 2025, and at least now, I can pack up and take off if the need ever arises. And it's big enough that I can sleep in it if I become homeless. Lol!

Hopefully, this will be the last one I'll ever need to buy. A perk of getting older.

I got the red. Which is surprising for me. I usually go for colors that don't stand out. So I can be incognito.

But when we went to the Subaru lot to look at cars, on a whim, I saw the car there, alone under a tree, I knew that my mother set this up and she wanted me to get a new car because she was worried about me driving my old one, and this is what she wanted me to have. And she made sure everything worked so smoothly. She even managed to get me a sweet, cute salesman, who was so nice, and didnt give off creepy salesman vibe. (To young, though, so I don't screw up my own relationship.) It may sound silly, but I know my mother's handiwork when I see it. Her fingers were all over this. She may be gone, but she will always be there, watching over her kids.

RN, Congrats, Grooch! I keep thinking I should do the same, sooner than later.

I'm driving a 2007 Chevy Avalanche with 150,000 miles on it.

RN Barring anything drastic, I may have mine fore a long time. I have a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis with only 15,419 miles on it. And it looks as perdy as the day we bought it new, since it's garage kept and barely driven. I remember posting a pic of it the day we got it. I'm going to try to find it.

You should if you can. I mean, you live in mountainous country. I only live on a flat island and only have to drive 2 miles to work. But now I can get a job anywhere! Plus with good gas mileage compared to a truck.

The best thing is that it's the only car with dedicated all wheel drive. I am terrified of driving in snow and flooding rain. To many close calls to count. And they had a good deal going on with only 2.9% financing for the Outback. The Forester was 4.9%. Though, the Forester might be easier for you to get into. The only thing that might be a problem is how comfortable it would be for you on long drives. But you can always pick out a different maker.

If you are serious about getting a new car, start watching you tube videos. I recommend Car Care Nut (He's excellent for how good the cars are made) and Car Confections. They are 2 young brothers that do reviews on cars on all the other stuff. Those 2 will help you narrow things down and then you can watch a bunch of videos by other people on the cars you like.

On an unrelated note, I watched Car Care nut do a review on the Tesla truck last week out of curiosity. He didn't care for it overall. A lot of sharp edges you can hurt yourself on. And the owner of that truck says he has to use rubbing alcohol to get the fingerprints off the car. Though there were things he liked.

And when I was talking to the salesman about Teslas today (about another video I watched where a guy was turning his in before the depreciation became to much, and all the hidden costs the car comes with) he told me about a woman who came in recently to trade in her Tesla car. She spent close to $90,000 on it, it had low mileage and less than a year old, and he said all they could offer her was $24,000 for it. There really isn't a resale market for them.

Just rambling....

Grooch, that's a good point about getting in and out, the truck is a climb, but a car too low, I would not be able to stand up easily!

I am also thinking about a handicapped accessible van to make it easier to take my scooter out and about, but I really don't want to drive a van.

What's wrong with mini vans? My boyfriend has a dodge caravan. They don't make them anymore. But that one is fine to drive. I wanted to get a minivan but they were to expensive for me. They make some very comfortable ones.

Here's a link to car Confections rating them. They have videos you can watch.

Link

While you are there, you can search for the Subaru Forester. That one is easier for me height wise to get into by a smidge than the outback. But then again, I can adjust the steering wheel on the Outback, and the height of the seat. I need to play with that. Plus, I watched a YouTube where a guy was putting baby seats in the back of cars to see how easy it is, and he liked how the back doors opened up to a 90 degree angle. Makes it easier to get things in and out.

The Forester and Outback are almost identical, just little things that are different, that I can tell you later if you're interested in them. Just that the Forester sits higher, and is like 8 inches shorter in the cargo area, but it's still large.

Whether you decide to get a new vehicle now or in 6 months or a year, going to the link, and watching YouTube is a good place to start, to start getting ideas and narrowing things down. And it gets addictive.

And the advice I got from my bil, who used to have his own automotive shop, is buy new these days. There so much electronic stuff on cars these days, and you have no idea where these used cars came from. So many floods, hurricanes, etc. Also, stay away from Ford! And Kia and Hyundai and Jeep and Volkswagon. The others you probably already know that, but his opinion about Ford was strong.

And one thing I heard is that Subaru is the most popular in the north east, and nobody wants them in the middle of the country. Go figure. I just worry it may not be comfortable enough for you. So, maybe the Toyota Sienna would be good. So many choices...

RN Grooch, congratulations on your new Subaru Outback. I agree with you about the fact that your mother intervened on your behalf. I believe in guardian angels. I also appreciate your YouTube suggestion of Car Care Nut. I am hoping to buy a new Subaru Outback this year and this YouTube will be helpful to me. On a sub-note, my daughter bought the new VW ID Buzz and it's beautiful. I enjoyed riding around with her and seeing smile with approval of this new VW van.
