So the tiny dogs aren't into pee pads?

I never had pee pads because all my dogs were Labradors and they quickly learned to pee outside and we knew to hustle them outside immediately after they ate.

And the older dogs were role models for pups.

But your tiny dogs, I assume Heidi and friend, seem traumatized.. and/or allergic, though not going outside.. Probably trauma or bad training?

RN Nope, they won't use the pee pads. They're old, 11 and 13. The 13 yro is 99% deaf. Doesn't hear a thing I say. She's always stunned when I come up from behind her. I have them until Sunday.

I'm in the process of making the kitchen a comfy yet pee proof place.

You have them another week? You have the patience of an angel, Naja. Nice of you to work to accommodate their special needs.

ETA: I have washable pee pads that I bought on Amazon. I'd rather wash than create trash. Just a thought.

RN I'll look for that in the future. I have a huge case of puppy pads my dogs never needed that I'm using up.

I am so sick of cleaning up pee. They mostly go on the pads now that I took the throw rugs out. So I thought it would be safe to put a dog bed in there. Nope, one of them peed in it right away. More washing So only pee pads and their crates. That's it. I am almost done washing all their bedding from inside the crates. They each have a fluffy pad and 2 blankets, and they all wreaked of pee. I washed their sweaters as well.

I wonder how they deal with them at home?

RN, Naja, that's a good question to ask!

FWIW, I take the washable pee pads and pin them to the dog beds, so they have a soft, and easily washable place to sleep.

RN last night was a success! When I got up, there were 3 pees and 1 poop on the pads, and another pee that was half on the floor half on the pad. So it was still a try :-). There weren't any mistakes outright on the floor. Taking out the throw rugs is what helped.

eta: I ordered more of that pee stuff, Kar.

RN, great news Naja! You're such a good dogsitter! Glad the pee stuff is working for you!

One of my dogs threw up repeatedly the other night, and some of that was on a thick orthopedic bed that can't be washed in a machine. I removed as much as I could, and treated with FurryFreshness (had to treat 3 times) and it's as good as new. These products are amazing!

RN Kar, I have big a treat for you! I switched what kind of beds I buy now and it was an accident that I found a better bed. There was a HUGE coupon during the Amazon members days on this bed. The insert is waterproof! And the whole outside, including the headrest thing all around is machine washable. I_loved_it so much I bought another bigger one. I wash it on quick wash with double rinse.

I think on Amazon days I paid about $18 for the 36 inch one. I later went back for the 42 inch one.

https://www.amazon.com/…

I didn't understand how the head rest part could dry so quickly like the rest of it, but then I realized it's because it's waterproof as well, but you don't take it out for washing.

Those look lovely! I have sooooo many dog beds... LOL. Many were donated to the rescue and we just don't have a need for them all for our fosters. In fact, I just got 5 more from someone whose dog passed and they didn't want to get another dog... and they were expensive beds!

I kept one, threw away one of my old ones, and gave the other 4 away. Two of them were exactly like that link you posted ... we had takers for those so didn't feel right keeping them... the one I kept no one else wanted, but it's a big thick ortho bed. It does have a zipper cover, but wasn't water proof, so I put one of those washable pee pads inside on the top side of the bed. If there are any oopsies, I can just wash the cover and the pee pad. :-)

My dogs really like their comfort. The bed she threw up on is in her crate, so a bolster bed doesn't work very well. After that incident, I'm buying another washable pee pad, and I'll put velcro tabs on the four corners and make a removable cover that way.

The things we do for our pets! Woof!

I did that a couple times with regular pee pads (no velcro), but they managed to pee right on the edge or corner, so it still got on the cushion, and the bolster. I didn't have it in me to go as far as you did.

Those beds look wonderful!

And so much good information from both of you! Wish you could get paid sponsorships.

Naja.. Those dogs are super lucky to be with you and learn with you.

RN, Naja, the washable pee pads are bigger than the beds, so I wrap them around. Since my beds were all free thru the rescue/donations, it seemed a good investment of time and money for me. The bed she ralfed on didn't have a bolster, so much easier.

RN For sure that's a great investment. I'm just glad I don't deal with pee-ers too often.

I just got a little relief. I read the calendar wrong. They pee-ers are going home Saturday.

And if they want to hire you again.. Maybe they should pay a higher fee for not being potty trained.

RN I made myself unavailable for next Monday and Tuesday. I am going to scour this house.
Sea, I doubt they'll need me again for a long time or if ever. This is the first time they left these dogs with anyone for their dream cruise. They are in their 70s.

Also, I was texting with the wife, she said they don't have a pee problem at home. I think maybe I just can't get in sync with their potty time and they don't know how to tell me they have to go.

RN I might actually have 2 tenants soon! Besides Endo, a 60 yo Pilates instructor is VERY interested. She just moved here from NYC and works at the fitness place in town. Compared to NYC, what I charge for a room must seem like a pittance. She'll come see the room next week. I would show it to her right away, but I want these pee-ers long gone and have time to de-pee the place very well.

RN, they sound like a lot of work, Naja. I bet the problem is that they have never been away from home before, and they are very stressed. Housebreaking can be location specific unfortunately.

RN Well, not only that, but if I'm not in their line of site, they won't stop barking or whining, AND I have Rosso the mini doodle here that barks even if he hears a bell on TV, or car door close outside. And that sets off the tiny dogs and then they all just won't shut up. I'm going crazy. Rosso goes home this afternoon so that will bring a little more quiet.

eta: Even my Dolly joins in their barking, and she's LOUD. My Patsy is always quiet, though.

RN, the barking when they think they are alone is also a stress reaction, maybe? Or just that they are used to never being alone. Barking gets on my nerves too.

Hopefully you are right, and this couple won't be traveling again and ask you to dogsit again.

I am back to having to house break and bark break a new dog.

I had my 15 year old dog, Fannie, put to sleep recently. Now I have a three year old dog, Beth, from a shelter.

She is terrified of strangers.

She had 6 puppies before I got her. Now she is spayed.

Thank heavens I have a fenced in yard. She is a champion zoomie runner.

I am working on the barking and house training. I have only had her one month.

According to behaviorists, I should give her 3 months to adapt.

Wish me luck.
