California storm knocks out power to whopping 1.4M customers

OAKLAND, Calif. - California's atmospheric river, which has been raging across the state off and on since last week, is now the largest single storm in 30 years, knocking out power to a whopping 1.4 million PG&E customers, the utility said Wednesday.

More than ¾ of the customers were restored within 12 hours, PG&E said in a news release. As of Wednesday morning, approximately 64,000 customers still had no power.

Los Angeles saw over 500 mudslides during deadly California storms

LOS ANGELES (AP) - One of the wettest storms in Southern California history unleashed over 500 mudslides in the Los Angeles area after dumping more than half the amount of rainfall the city typically gets in a season in just two days, and officials warned Tuesday that the threat was not over yet.

Iceland's volcano eruption cuts off hot water supply to thousands after shooting lava 260 feet in the air

Thousands of residents of southwest Iceland had their hot water supply cut off amid "severe frost" overnight – because of lava. The region's third volcanic eruption since December sent lava flows that officials say damaged pipes that supply hot water to the area.

"We don't have any hot water because the lava field is over the pipes," Keflavík resident Bryndis Thorsteinsdottir told Reuters, saying tens of thousands of people have been impacted. "It's very difficult for us. And we don't know anything."

The latest eruption broke out around 6 a.m. local time Thursday northeast of Mount Sýlingarfell, spewing lava fountains roughly 260 feet in the air and giving rise to a nearly 2-mile volcanic plume. The Icelandic Met Office said in its latest update on Thursday that lava has flowed just under 3 miles from the site of the eruption, but that activity seemed to be diminishing. The erupting fissure is also believed to be just under 3 miles long.

"The vigor of the eruption continues to decrease,"

Sun, then sunny rain, then cloudy rain Thursday.

Today sun and blue sky but huge clouds to the north. Must be snowing at elevation.

A rare winter tornado churned through southern Wisconsin on Thursday, snapping power poles, downing large trees and damaging homes.

It was the state’s first recorded tornado in the month of February, a NWS meteorologist says.

My email said 4.5 then the USGS site where I entered data said 4.6. And KCAL says 4.7.

I felt it more because I was hanging out in bed upstairs.

Very pretty out, quite crisp but it feels good not cold. Skies are mostly white and bright, so we must have some clouds. Temps going up to 58.

No rain until Wednesday!

During the latest storm, tons of rocks and debris slid down to the beach right below bluff-side homes in Dana Point.

Luckily, none of the cliffside homes were red-tagged.

"The house is fine, Dr. Lewis Bruggeman, who owns one of the homes, said. "It's not threatened. It will not be red-tagged."

The rocks came to rest near the popular Dana Point tidepools. Several passersby captured the precarious position of some of the homes, including an A-frame house whose deck was perched above the ocean. City officials reassured the homeowner that the deck had not moved. Inspectors also found no cracks.

It's a bit chilly today probably because it is mostly cloudy so even tho the temps are going up to 59 it feels cooler than yesterday.

Rain coming tomorrow.
