The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has said that at least 2,000 cattle died due to high temperatures and humidity, Reuters reported. The death toll was based on requests the state agency received to help dispose of the cow carcasses.

What else is going on? Tropical clouds with numerous lightning strikes near Bakersfield. These clouds are flying north. Santa Clara Valley to eastern Contra Costa County look to be in the mix for clouds & possible dry lightning or showers. Most should be East but it's close.

HAPPENING NOW: Firefighters are battling 3 fires around Bay Area
1) Fire burning near Pleasanton Ridge
2) Fire in Vacaville burning in area of Buena Vista Ln. and Timm Rd.
3) Fire in Contra Costa County, near town of Port Costa https://bit.ly/3bp32we
1) Fire on Pleasanton Ridge has prompted evacuations for the Golden Eagle area
2) No evacs for Vacaville fire at this time. Blaze is 15 acres, zero containment
3) Evacuation warning for some parts of Port Costa (CoCo County)

Crockett is working a large vegetation fire causing a lot of smoke in the City of Benicia. There is also a separate fire in Vacaville that is causing smoke from the Northeast. Crews are already on scene at both fires. Benicia firefighters will begin air monitoring in Benicia.

We actually have a good chance of wide spread rain over the next few days. We haven’t had significant measurable rain other than small pop up showers in 140 days. Larger area could get up to an inch of rain. Of course the downside is if the rain is heavier than forecast or the system gets stuck over the area we have high chance of flooding. Initial showers if heavy will run off because the ground is so dry and hard.

Dipo - Finally got some beneficial rain. Over two days we’re close to an inch at the house. Officially won’t break the drought but we’ll get a little bounce in the aquifer. Better than 140 plus days without rain. Also broke the string of 100F days. Lost track but it was around 20 days straight last I saw a report. Should stay in the 90’s for the next week or so. Still plenty hot but not as bad.

While it differs within the city and county looks like we got somewhere in the range of 1 1/2 inches at the house. It had been so long since it rained that my rain gauge float was stuck to the bottom of the gauge. Secondary is pool tile “guage”. Based on how much tile is covered at the water line of the pool I’d say 1 1/2 inches. 😀👍
