Danica had a really rough year last year, in her first year of driving a Nationwide car. Maneuvering a stock car is a lot different from an Indy car (there is a huge difference in weight), and perhaps she had difficulty positioning her car correctly on pit road last year? I don'tknow since I don't routinely follow Nationwide. I know Greg Biffle made some stupid remarks about her exit from pit lane during one segment and the announcers defended her. I think there is a lot of resentment against her because she has gotten so much attention, but that really isn't her fault. The flip side is that she has also gotten a lot of negative press. I wish her well (especially since she drives for my favorite driver's race team).

I wish her well too. I think she is doing great. Fantastic getting the pole, leading the race at one point, and a solid race overall.

Sure hope Denny is okay. Pretty un-classy of Joey to say that Denny deserved what he got.

Pretty wild race finish. I was yelling for JR to pass Kyle because I knew Joey and Denny would get into it and the third place car would win.

Joey is making a lot of enemies. Seems like his owners need to rein him in a little. Not in racing, but in making sure that he learns how to speak in interviews better (anybody remember the classic scene in Bull Durham when Kevin Costner teaches Tim Robbins how to "do" interviews?). In his defense, I doubt he knew at the time when he was being interviewed that Denny had been carried off on a neck board.

I agree Roxip. I certainly hope Denny is ok. I am not surprised though. They both have made some pretty snide comments about each other over the past few weeks. Time for Nascar to step in.

Oh, I think NASCAR needs to stay out of it. Neither Denny nor Joey did anything but try and win a race - I don't think there were any cheap shots involved, at least not specifically because of whom they were racing. They were just two guys wanting to win a race. What is more concerning is the lack of SAFER barriers around the speedway IMO.

Hi Roxip, I meant for the off track smack talking part only. I agree they did nothing wrong on the track. Now Tony is all po'd and is talking smack too. This could get really ugly.

Well, it certainly made for an interesting end to the race. I think Tony is just frustrated because he needed to have a good finish - he's had really bad racing luck so far this year (although unlike the talking heads I don't think there is reason to panic yet - there are lots of points races left). I wonder if Joey has always been a problem child but because of the respect they all have for Coach Joe the other races left him alone, or what?

And how great that Matt's son Ross won a race the same night! It's gotta be in the genes.

Are you sure that it was Matt Kenseth's son that won? I thought Matt's children were infants.

I stand corrected - I had never heard he had a son but you are absolutely right!

Sad to see that he left behind a son. But as a racer, at least he went out doing something that he loved.

Does it make me a fair weather fan that I haven't watched Nascar in two weeks since Tony Stewart can't race?

Well, I guess I will have more spare time on my hands, now that Tony's out for the season. On the other hand, I like Mark Martin. And I know I'm talking to myself here, since apparently everybody is all about football these days...LOL!

Roxip-you are not talking to yourself! DH & I still watch the races each weekend and try to keep up with the "off track" stuff during the week. But, dang, life just keep getting the the way. It's kind of funny - years (many years) ago when I first started watching NASCAR with DH & a few friends, everyone had certain drivers they each were fans of. So, to make a long story longer, I thought I should pick someone - so I kind of started noticing different driver and there was something about Mark Martin that caught my attention. That began my being a fan. All our friends said I made a good choice...and at that time I didn't even know he was such an accomplished driver. FYI - When NASCAR season is over, I'll then watch my Cowboys go to the Super Bowl! LOL BTW, have you heard how Tony is doing? I've had three broken bones in my leg (all at the same time), but I was in my 20's, but still took about a year to recup and walk again.

For me it was Rusty Wallace, and then we he retired it took me a couple of years but I finally settled on Tony Stewart. It must have been a really bad break (I think he broke the bones in both his upper and lower leg) to keep him out of the seat for the entire season. I know he has had two surgeries and was released from the hospital. I'll have to look around and see if there are any interviews from him. This just has been a weird season for him, but now at least hopefully Ryan can make it into the Chase for his last season at SHR. Glad there is another NASCAR fan out there!

Another NASCAR fan here. Don't think you are a fair weather fan because of Tony. Sometimes I turn the races off, particularly Nationwide or Trucks, if Kyle is in the lead. Jerry Punch described Tony's injury that both bones in his lower leg were broke and that it was a compound fracture (bones through the skin). So, I imagine that they have been concerned about possible infections in addition to the breaks. The first surgery was to clean the wounds and the second was to put a rod in to stabilize the break.

Although I know he loves it, I hope his days of open wheel racing are done! Oh well, I guess I can watch the races and cheer on anyone but Jimmy Johnson...LOL!
