Sportsfan, I read this morning that health was one of the factors in his decision. He said the hits they take and "Jr's" concussion played a role. http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/gallery/10-keys-to-carl-edwards-leaving-joe-gibbs-racing-truth-lies-011117?cmpid=nl_fs_edition_01122017

Good race and happy with the winner - Sliced Bread! Even happier with the front row for the 500! Looking forward to Thursday's races.

Sad day for us JR Fans Dale Earnhardt Jr. will retire following the 2017 NASCAR season, Hendrick Motorsports announced Tuesday in a press release. The 14-time Most Popular Driver has won 26 times in 603 starts over a career that began at age 24 in 1999. Among his accomplishments are two Daytona 500 crowns (2004, 2014) and two championships (1998, 1999) in what is now called the NASCAR XFINITY Series. http://www.nascar.com/en_us/news-media/articles/2017/4/25/dale-earnhardt-jr-retire-following-2017-season.html

That is sad news. All of my favorites have retired or are close...Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin, Dale Sr. hit the wall, Tony Stewart...it takes a lot of the fun out of watching the races.

I hate to see him retire also, but am glad that he is doing it while he is healthy. He will still be involved and around the tracks. His Xfinity team is going strong and you know he will continue working with them. Maybe he could join Jeff on Fox, they would make a good team!

I've always been amazed at how some of these guys continue to race even when they are getting older.

Pretty big crash in NASCAR tonight. Danica Patrick jumped right out of her car and Logano was okay as well but they took quite a while to get Aric Almirola out. He hit hard. Logano, Patrick, Almirola involved in wreck at Kansas Speedway By Kathy Sheldon NASCAR.com May 13, 2017 at 10:38 pm On Lap 199 of Saturday night’s Go Bowling 400, Danica Patrick and Joey Logano got together while running 11th and 12th, respectively, creating a hard impact that sent Patrick’s No. 10 Ford spinning into the wall and bursting into flames. Logano’s No. 22 Ford appeared to have a right front problem, sending the car sharply left into Patrick’s car. As Patrick spun into Kansas Speedway’s outside retaining wall coming out of Turn 1, Aric Almirola’s No. 43 plowed into Logano’s No. 22. Patrick was having one of her best runs of the season in a special Wonder Woman paint scheme, as her best finish so far in 2017 is 17th place at Atlanta. She hopped out of her crunched and burning car quickly, as did Logano. Safety workers needed some time to get Almirola out of his car, though he immediately dropped his window net and was conscious and alert. more at the link .... http://www.nascar.com/news-media/2017/05/13/logano-patrick-almirola-involved-wreck-kansas-speedway/

It was a scary accident. I am so thankful everyone is relatively OK. Danica's car was quickly engulfed in flames.. Hubby and I were yelling get out, get out! Aric had to be cut out of his car and suffered a compression fracture or his T5 vertebrae, not sure how long he will be out of his car.

Very unhappy with the move to win by Austin Dillon. Aric Almirola was a real gentleman about the loss.
