Ok, cool. I'm always catching an older scary movie I haven't seen before and want to post about. I'll start it next time I see one.

From the trailers on TV I've seen of Ricki and the Flash -- this may be a first for Meryl Streep? I don't know that I'm buying her in this role as a has-been almost rocker. She doesn't seem to fit the part. But then again -- she's Meryl Streep?!

I'm looking forward to seeing The Martian but I'm starting to think they're giving away too much of the story in the 2nd trailer that makes the story in the book a thriller so to speak. If too many questions are answered in a trailer, people may not bother with the movie. As excited as I am to see trailers, I hope they back off a bit with online leaks, etc.

So disappointed with Black Mass. It got geat reviews, but I just didn't connect with any of the characters or the story itself. Johnny Depp's makover was just distracting imo. I was expecting Goodfellas/Godfather and it was at best mediocre.

Has anybody seen Every Secret Thing (2014) starring Diane Lane? This is the most depressing movie I have seen in years. It was very good but so depressing. It's about two girls getting released from juvie at 18, after killing a baby girl when they were about 10 or 11. When they get released, another baby girl goes missing, so of course they are the first suspects. It's playing on STARZ this month.

Ricki and the Flash was an ok movie, but Meryl Streep was not believable as the hippy-rocker.

Ive used Red box, its convenient for one night rents, if you set up a email account they send codes for free movies or 2 for 1 offers. You can rent at any location and return at any location..as long as its in the time frame. They don't have a lot of older movies, usually newer releases, but sometimes ....just depends.

Hecka, does your library system carry movies? Ours do and we free access to them for 3 weeks at a time. I just now watched The Martian for free.

I've used Redbox occasionally and I like it a lot. You can look for specific movies and find the closest location to you and reserve them online. Then you can return at any redbox. It's simple and I've never had a problem with it.

I learned something really interesting today while watching the 1943 version of "Jane Eyre" with Orson Welles. When it was over, the guy that talks about the movie said that another movie came out that year based on the novel Jane Eyre. It was called "I Walk with a Zombie". LOL I remember having seen it years ago, but now I have to watch it again to see the similarities.

Ooops, I messed up the title of the movie. It's "I Walked with a Zombie (1943)"

I found it online and I am downloading it. I will check it out this weekend to see how a Haiti zombie movie could have possibly been inspired by Jane Eyre. I think the very first novel I was introduced to was Jane Eyre. My Granny got me a little tv slide show machine where you played the record on the top, and put the slides on the side. And the very first show was Jane Eyre. I have to say, when you're 5 or 6, Jane Eyre is a scary story.

I bet it scared you. That is where you found your love of scary stories. I wonder if the zombie movie has to do with the backstory of Rochester and his first wife (Wide Sargasso Sea)? Guess not. I looked it up and that novel was written in 1966. They've done a couple movies of it. I'm anxious to hear how the zombie movie relates to JE.

I've watched the first half so far and there are some similarities. An American nurse takes a job as a live-in far away in Haiti. She is to take care of woman who was very sick and didn't recover. She can walk, but she just roams around like a zombie. She doesn't doesn't talk and just stares into space. And then of course the nurse falls in love with the zombie's husband. The native people think the man's wife is a zombie, not just mentally ill, so on a whim the nurse takes the zombie wife to see if someone could heal her with voodoo. It doesn't seem to have worked so far.

It's not often I actually look forward to a movie coming out but this remake of Tarzan, from the director of the Harry Potter movies, looks good to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aj7ty6sViiU

Am watching an amusing little movie called ChickLit on Hulu. Four men decide to try to write some "mummy porn" to raise money to save the local pub. The older gentleman asked if it had to do with debauchery in pyramids, lol. Haven't watched too much of it yet.

Someone here several years ago recommended a book The Immortal Life Of Henietta Lacks. HBO has made a movie about it. The movie wasn't nearly as good as the book, but the performances were very good by all.
