"If you tried Dead Boy Detectives let me know what you think."

Well, I finished The Regime last night. Really liked it...she was kind of a Trumplike leader of a country and she made every mistake she could.

So...today I decided to give Dead Boy Detectives a shot. GREAT! If the Hardy Boys books married the Winchester Boys series and had a baby show, it would have to be Dead Boy Detectives.....with a cherry on top....named Ruth Connell!

It's fun and my gaydar is going off. Another character (the Cat King) is played by Lukas Gage, who costarred opposite Zachary Quinto in "Down Low" a hysterical movie, so if you haven't seen it, find it and watch it!).

If you liked Supe, you'll like Dead Boys, no question....and one of the boys has already been to hell and back...wonder if he ever got to meet Sammy or Dean back then?

Time for ep2!

I should start Dead Boy Detectives soon, as I’ve caught up on Fallout(weird) and some of the shows I’d got behind on.

I watched the Tracker episode with Jensen. He was kind of like Dean-max. And I thought he’d said at a convention that he wasn’t going to use the gruff voice anymore, it hurt his throat?!

I think I speculated before that Justin Hartley would be better opposite Jensen and he was, they had a great dynamic and the whole show made me happy, lol.

"caught up on Fallout(weird)"

Does "caught up" mean "finished? I thought it was more "unique" and "unpredictable" than "weird", but yes, there was weirdness in FALLOUT, but that was just the cherry on top! :-) The way this whole situation started was quite a surprise to me.

"I watched the Tracker episode with Jensen. He was kind of like Dean-max. "

Now THIS is "weird": When Dean showed up with that scraggly beard I wondered who this actor was because I didn't recognize him at all. It took a moment to see that it was Ackles (after he started talking). I'd already seen him with a beard (and long hair) but with dark hair and a different beard style and a toned down excitable Dean, it took a minute to see Ackles in this minimal makeover.

He was good as Max the bro but his Dean-like flirtations didn't work like it did on Supe! :-) This was a better episode than most of the previous ones....but it still feels like I've seen this show before because the premise isn't very original. It's got a similar premise as "Alert", except Colter's team is scattered about, not sharing office space with him.

It would be better if Tracker delved into their personal histories more rather than relying mostly on the "case of the week" that's always solved when their clues and assumptions fall into place as if there was no other possibility.

Yes, finished Fallout. I really enjoyed the first episode but then it got stranger and stranger. Good twist though, of all the explanations I was working on in my head, that wasn’t one of them.

I enjoyed Jensen’s flirtations not being successful for once :-) :-). I sometimes think about those boys (J, J, M) and how strange it must be to have people wanting to hug you wherever you go. Lots of celebs are recognized I know, but to have so many women just queuing up to get their hug, it’s kind of surreal if you think about it. Nice, but surreal.

I watched the first Dead Boy Detectives, and when they started talking about the witch, I was sure that was who Ruth O’Connell would be, then she popped in there at the end in a different role. I really enjoyed it, although hubby didn’t particularly, so might take longer to get through the season than I’d prefer.

By the way, I saw a tweet the other day with the caption, “I like them a totally normal amount I swear” and a picture of Supernatural peeps. It wasn’t me, but it certainly sounded an awful lot like me .

DJ Qualls (Garth) and TJ Olsson (Benny) are getting married!

DJ: "On that treat I met Ty, and at the convention we didn't know each other at all. We maybe say three words to each other at the Supernatural convention, and, and then we went to London for four or five days afterwards, and then I was going on to Turkey with a friend, and he is such a pure, awesome guy, he came up to us, we all went out as a group, and he was like, can I come on the trip with you? And I'm like, that is so ballsy. I could never invite myself on somebody's trip because I would be so afraid they would begrudgingly tell me yes and then not want me there. But it was just so pure and awesome. And that's who he is. And I didn't know him, and it was the beginning of our friendship.

And then Ty and I, we became, like, inseparable. At the very beginning, like, immediately. And over the last ten years, our relationship has evolved to what it is today. And now we're getting married! And it's just so crazy that this person who was just my friend now, I think about it all the time, and he sends me some of the best messages, and he supports me and he loves me unconditionally in the right way because I would never abuse that. Yeah. We, on our previous podcast, we talked about the validity of unconditional love, unconditional love has a condition in it. The fact that you treat that person with respect and their best interests are your best interest. And now we're going to be old men together, which is so crazy."

Well, congratulations to DJ Qualls (Garth) and TJ Olsson!

It's great seeing gay folks finally being able to publicly celebrate their lives.

I had no idea either of them played on my team, but it makes me feel great (and a bit emotional) that they are able to be who they are, just like str8 folks. So many people have no idea what it's like to be hated and hidden in the closet for their whole lives (often starting in childhood)....it's like being a fugitive based solely on hate with nothing to back that "reason" up.

Supe Boys RULE!

Ty particularly, he has had two marriages with women, so I don't know what those were or if he is gay or bi, or defines himself any other way (or no way) but it is heartening to see them freely being who they are right now.

I'm not surprised Ty's a sweet person though, one thing I've really noticed with Jensen is he... not sure how to describe it but he is tender, perhaps is the word, with sweet people. I can see it but can't describe it. He's like that with Misha, just seems to want to soak him up and enjoy him. Anyway, I felt Dean was like that with Benny, and Jensen with Ty, so I had assumed Ty was sweet, despite seeing him in some less than sweet roles since Supe.

DJ Qualls only came out publicly a few years ago, I think he said because he was worried about his career.

So quite a time of life for the both of them, and I too am happy they're going to be "old men together."

Also, happy you're happy.

Walker with Jared has been cancelled. It really did have some good characters, but the story has been pretty unbelievable (perhaps on purpose, I was never quite sure).

I’ve watched a few episodes of Dead Boy Detectives now, and Ruth O’Connell’s character is so mean! I keep expecting her to do something nice… perhaps in the last half of the season…

Kitt, I was convinced it was you that recommended "Sugar" to me, but maybe not because I was also convinced your post would be on this page, but it doesn't seem to be here.

Anyhow, I like Colin Farrell so today I started watching Sugar....I saw all 8 eps today and I LOVED it. Modern film noir mixed in with old movie film noir and a great story and surprises along the way. I always say I like original and unpredictable shows/movies and this series is exactly that (times TEN!)

I've had a run of bingeing lately....I rewatched s01 of "Outer Range" because I forgot so much about in the 2 years since it aired. That was a lot better than I remembered. It was great to have the newly released s02 to follow it up with. So...I spent the following day in a s02 binge that was SO much more than I ever could have expected or even hoped for. Season 1 had so many unanswered questions but s02 cleared most of them up while adding even more twists turns and questions.

Remember:

Season 1 of SUGAR and seasons 1-2 of OUTER RANGE

Watxh them and make all your firends watch them....I'm hoping for high ratings so they both get a renewal.

I did some googling regarding renewal on Sugar (no decision yet) and saw stuff I didn't expect/want to see....articles that give away some of the main twists/secrets in it! And that was right there in the titles of articles!

So, Warning! - if you google "Sugar" you could spoil the whole experience for yourself...it would be like learning who Keyser Söze really was in "The Usual Suspects" just before you sit down to watch it!

It's totally worth going in blind to watch Sugar because the storytelling is a journey that pulls you in and unfolds perfectly.

I'm on S2E2 of Outer Range now, but I really should have done what you did, and rewatched S1, because I'm having difficulty remembering who is who. Also 1970s Royle needs to annunciate.

I never had Apple TV, so haven't seen any Apple shows except For All Mankind, which I watched sneakily. Probably going to subscribe once we get a house though, as there are a few shows we'd like to see. I will beware of spoilers, and just trust you and put Sugar on my list!

"I will beware of spoilers, and just trust you and put Sugar on my list!"

Perfect!....but move it to the top of your list, just in case. :-)

"but I really should have done what you did, and rewatched S1"

My plan was to refresh my memory of Outer Range, by scanning a few episodes, but when I started watching I was seeing stuff I didn't remember at all. I did remember the general premise and some of the main characters (but not their names) and the re-watch was more exciting and better than I remembered.

Jensen's going to be the leading man - solo by the sound of it - again.

quote:

Jensen Ackles is a leading man once again.

The Supernatural vet is attached to star in the Prime Video thriller Countdown, which secured a 13-episode order at the streamer on Thursday.

Countdown begins with a suspicious murder in broad daylight, leading Los Angeles Police Department officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) to be recruited to a secret task force of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement that will investigate the death. “But as the truth of a more sinister plot comes into focus,” the logline reads, “the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.”

https://tvline.com/casting-news/jensen-ackles-countdown-amazon-series-1235254682/

If he's just been cast I'm guessing this would be a fall 2025 show?? Or Spring "midseason" 2025 maybe.

Also it seems like there's no Soldier Boy in this new season of The Boys.

So Ackles gets a new 13 episode job, while Padalecki gets canceled?

The brothers are a bit out of synch I think...

At the last con, before this was announced, they were talking about family time. Jared said Walker had finished filming (don't think it had officially been cancelled then, but he probably knew) and he was looking forward to more family time. Jensen was talking about enjoying spending the last year or so mostly at home.

Now that will swap, so yes, definitely out of synch!

New interview with Jared for Variety:

https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/jared-padalecki-the-cw-walker-series-cancellation-1236047009/

He's annoyed at the CW (now run by NexStar) for moving towards concentrating on cheap content.

And

quote:

But I haven’t taken a whole lot of time just yet to think about what’s next. I kind of said this at the end of “Supernatural”: I wasn’t interested in acting [again], per se. I do love producing. I love the production aspect, and I love the problem-solving that comes with it. So there are a few things that my wife and I are in the process of developing that I would love to produce and act in. But beyond that, I still feel like I haven’t grieved the loss of “Walker,” so I don’t know yet if I trust my feelings. That sounds like a cop-out. I’m so sorry.

Yeah, I don’t want to disappear into the bushes by any means, but I kind of want to disappear into the bushes. But hopefully, at this point in my life, and much like Cordell realized at the end of Season 4, I need to take a good, long, hard look at my personal life and the time I spend with my family and my friends, and I need to stop being so aggressive and obsessed with work. I still want to work, but for now, you’ll find me in and out of the bushes, hanging out with family and seeing friends. If a project comes up and I don’t care about it, then money doesn’t matter. But if a project comes up and I love the story or there’s somebody I really want to work with, then all right, [I’ll do it].

He also seems to confirm he will be in next season of The Boys, but he doesn't know what sort of part yet.

I'll bet that on "The Boys" if Jared is there, there will be some comment in reference to "Supernatural". Probably another fun ad lib from one of them.

That could be fun...maybe they'll be enemies or rivals of some kind....or even long lost brothers. :-)

Btw, why is Jared rattling on about being "in the bushes"? I've never heard that phrase in connection to acting or anything else. I've only heard it used when the one using it was talking about literal bushes, as in shrubs in the yard or in the woods.

Isn't it a reference to this meme (from The Simpsons):

https://tenor.com/view/nice-gif-8799502202022208621

i.e. disappearing so you won't see him again? Although I think in the show Homer was shrinking back as he'd just done something embarrassing. Anyway, I think he just meant that he wouldn't just disappear without a trace, even though he'd kind of like too.

He strikes me as such a full-on needs to be doing something all the time kind of person, his wife might get tired of all the good ideas he has for them to do together in all the extra time they have!

"Isn't it a reference to this meme (from The Simpsons):"

Yes, that scene of "Homey" disappearing into a hedge is perfectly understandable...but it sounds weird it's used without the comedic fade away into some literal bushes. Also, that scene/meme is one that I don't remember ever having seen, so I didn't connect to The Simpsons at all.

In any case, I'm sure Jared will be happy to know that his bush phrase can be supported by the fact that it came from the fictional idiot known as Homer Simpson.

Sanfran, have you been watching this season's The Boys? I know you sometimes save them until the end and then binge watch.

You'll see a lot of two Supernatural actors... more than you'd expect of one of them!

Still waiting for whole season....just three more Thursdays from now, the whole season will be available for a good binge. :-)

It's not surprising that Supe actors are popping up since The Boys and Supe share Eric Kripke in directing and writing.

I have found that 8 episode/season shows are an easy wait for a good binge. I'm old and I've discovered that time really DOES move faster when you start becoming decrepit. Heck, I was in my 40s just the day before yesterday, but somehow I'm 73 now! :-)

(Of course, the older I get, the more patience I have...)

I just finished the s04 finale. Yes, I saw them....Bobby Singer (Who was even named Robert Singer in The Boys....and he even called someone an "idjit"). And there was John Winchester, too.

However, I expected one of them to be half naked or something because you said that I would "see a lot more than you'd expect of one of them!"

What did I miss?

So "Chuck AKA god" was the "It's not what it looks like" guy? LOL

I'd never have guessed who that was. Shaving his beard turned him into a totally different person (according to my brain).
