So while I'm excited that we are finally getting the back half of S5, I'm kind of annoyed that it takes Sheridan two years or longer to get anything on air. We've been waiting two years for the sequel to 1923 and it took two years to get S2 of Tulsa King. We've been waiting for years for the Yellowstone spin-off 6666. Then this week I start seeing advertisements for a new show on P+ called Landman. Why does he do this when other shows are left hanging?

I had no idea the guy who plays Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) was a country singer! I just saw him on Jimmy Fallon and he's really good!

i didnt comment here about sunday's episode because that is how disappointed i am in how it played out with Costner leaving the show. SO not ok for those waiting two years to see if Jamie or Beth would strike first - but thinking Costner would just not come back for any more seasons - not that he would refuse to finish the last part of season five. sigh.

I was pretty ticked off as well, LB. I know it's his life, but without the fans he wouldn't have a career. And to totally screw us by not finishing just a few episodes of a show we put years into, well that's just a shitty thing to do to his fans and the show's fans. Not to mention his co-workers. Costner should have just put on his big boy pants and get it done. But he had to have revenge and hurt people.

Costner offered Sheridan one week to shoot just his scenes for the season (Costner didn't need to be there for scenes he's not in) but Sheridan didn't even have the scripts available. That's what pisses me off more than anything is Sheridan bites off more than he can chew. He knew that Costner had the Horizon project and after a certain time he would not be available. I put this all on Sheridan.

Well I sure didn't see that ending coming down the way it did. But I was talking to some friends of mine who watch the show, we know from previews that someone goes to the Train Station and we can only assume it is either Kaycee or Rip who takes Jamie to the Train Station. Yet, there really isn't anything connecting Jamie to John's murder. He had absolutely no contact with The Fixer and he didn't know that Sarah had set it up. The Fixer may not even know about Sarah and Jamie's relationship. It will be interesting nonetheless.

As soon as a "man killer horse" was mentioned, I knew something would happen. But I thought it would be a bigger character. This is all so depressing.

All of us at work who watch the show still don't understand the point of Kayce flying down to Texas and confronting The Fixer but letting him live. There's nothing that connects Jamie to The Fixer. The Fixer doesn't even know Jamie or had any contact with him. Sheridan is turning this into a mess.

I just watched the first half of the 2 hour finale and I'm afraid to watch the second half. If Beth or Rip end up dead, I won't be happy!

eta: I'm not stopping back in until I've watched it.

The finale had its good moments, but was also mildly disappointing, but I guess it did wrap up all the characters.

Will be interested to see if the spinoff starring Rip and Beth comes to fruition.

It was a good yet still kinda empty finale.

Happy the land survived. Happy Beth, Rip, Kayce survived. Happy who got the land back.

Happy Jamie is dead? Sure. But it just wasn’t the kind of revenge killing I expected from Beth. As calculated as it was. Just something missing. The first half of season 5 was so thrilling. These last episodes had moments but not the level of the rest of the series.

I was happy the tribe got the land back, yet it was sad seeing them tear down the buildings. :-(
I'm assuming by selling the land to the tribe, that the state gov't could no longer use imminent domain to condemn it? It wasn't stated, just kind of implied.

TBH, I felt like the final season intro'd some new ideas but that were never followed up on. Like what happened to Beth's idea of selling beef directly? And there was a big deal made of Beth almost having to strip to get Travis (also the writer of the show) to come help with the auction, but then I missed how he helped.

Anyone watch 1923? I recorded but haven't watched yet. Same director/writer, and since I was kind of dissatisfied with yellowstone, not sure I'll watch.

1923 is just as good as most of Yellowstone. You get invested with the Duttons just as much!

For some reason, I couldn't find episode 1 of 1923, then I found it on On Demand instead of Paramount. Weird.

Karuuna, I've watched both 1883 and 1923 and enjoyed them. Finally, after a two-year wait, we are getting the second season of 1923 in Feb. 2025. There will also be a sequel, 1944, some time down the pike. I enjoy the prequels because it gives so much background on the Dutton family.

Now here is my rant about the finale. Are we to believe that the detective is buying Beth's story about what happened - WITH ALL THAT BLOOD IN THE HOUSE? If she sprayed him with bear spray and blinded him, what makes anyone think he could drive to Idaho and ditch his truck - and where did he go? And how did Rip and Lloyd carry a body out of the house in broad daylight without being seen? This was sloppy writing by Taylor Sheridan.

Lexie - exact same thoughts. Rip can get rid of bodies but hello - how did they transport out of that house with cameras likely up everywhere! All i could think of was either Jamie's or the neighbor's cameras - and we would see who was at that location with cameras on the street at some point - so easy to track vehicles. I get its the country but this particular area was NOT country - so traffic cams, home cams, everywhere. Horrible writing in how they killed Jamie, just horrible.

Exactly, Jamie lived in a very upscale neighborhood so most likely majority of neighbors had security cameras.

IMO, there was sloppy writing all thru the show, as I mentioned above. A lot of storylines opened and never followed up, for example.

I didn't know there was an 1883!

And 1923 is just now starting on Paramount, so I'm confused about that too. Did you watch all of Season 1 already? You said it's been a 2-year wait. My brain hurts. :-)

As for Beth's murder of Jamie, I suppose that they might deal with that if there is a spinoff with Beth and Rip?

I watched all of 1923 and 1883 maybe a year ago. Each series is distinctive yet all have characters you attach to.

1883 is also on Paramount+. That is the story that explains how and why the Duttons settled in Montana. I found it fascinating and basically binged over a weekend but it can be a hard watch because the settlers had it very rough as they made their way across the U.S. back then.

1923 is the sequel to 1883. The second season is not coming out until Feb. 2025 (which we waited two years for).

After the second season of 1923 in Feb., some time next year 1944 will air. All these shows will cover the Dutton family tree.

As an aside (and I don't mean to confuse you Kar - the voice you heard narrating at the end of the season finale of Yellowstone was the character "Elsa." She is the main character in 1883. She is John Dutton's great aunt or great great aunt (we are still filling in the pieces of the family tree - that probably won't happen until 1944).

Also, of some note, the actress who played Sarah Atwood (Jamie's killer girlfriend) also played Claire Dutton in 1883.

thanks for the explanation, Lexie. I'm not sure I'll go back further than 1923... this watching backwards drives me a little nuts. :-)

I know you said you waited 2 years for the second season of 1923, BUT, it's only NOW showing on the Paramount channel on Xfinity. I presume you watched it on P+, which is kind of a pain in the butt for me.

It was so messed up. Yellowstone was streaming on peacock but 1883 and 1923 were on Paramount+. As was the 1883 spinoff Lawmen: Bass Reeves. (No season two for 1883 but fabulous cast in that 10 episode season)

Along with the second season of 1923 coming in February, 1944, 6666, and “the Madison” are all in the works although I don’t see the Yellowstone franchise connection to the Madison beyond just being in Montana.

Kar, I personally loved 1883. It shows who John's ancestors were and why they settled in Montana when they were supposed to settle in Oregon (and why they had all that land).

Do you all not have a Paramount channel (not Paramount+) but a Paramount channel on Xfinity?

That's the only reason I started watching Yellowstone, because it was easy to DVR and skip commercials. Now 1923 is on it, so I'm doing the same.

I have regular Paramount on my Cox Cable which is where I watch Yellowstone every week.

I have Paramount + streaming which is where I watch 1883 and 1923 and the soon-to-be other prequels
