Pamy, yeah Rob and Taran were both cracking me up. Taran is always good with voices. Really look forward to Taran and Chappell doing The Summit pods.

They did speculate that some of them might have been offered this show after they applied for Survivor..

I think Claire Rehfuss applied for Survivor, ended up on Big Brother, met DerekX.. They then got casted on Amazing Race and won and are still together. They just got back from Japan.. Took the trip between Claire quitting her job and starting another. They now live in San Francisco with their cat.

I kinda think this is a show we TVCH-ers will like.

Sorry if I spoiled too much. Feel free to say if you hate it.

I watched my recording last night and I'm kind of on the fence about them voting out Rose. I get that she was annoying BUT sooner or later (more like sooner) Bo is going to be medi-vacced out and they will lose his share of the money. They should have voted him out so they could keep his share of the money and then vote out Rose at the next checkpoint. If Bo goes out before the second checkpoint, that $62,500 NOT in their backpacks.

Based off the first episode, I'm loving this show!

I think you are probably right, Lexie. There is another way of looking at it tho, you also want to keep the people that won't vote YOU out, and we don't see enough of the early 'alliance' chatting. I'm guessing Bo was friends with more people than Rose was, cause she was pretty prickly. Plus there seemed to be some concern that the "moms" were forming a tight alliance.

That's the thing with the voting off shows.... you have to weigh who will vote with you, not against you, as well as other things... like money.

I think they may make different decisions now that they understand the game better. It would have been odd to vote off Bo after they just spent that time/effort to save him, but they didn't know then how the vote off worked. I forget if they would have lost his money if they didn't save him.

At least if they vote him off at the next pitstop they can capture his money. And I think Rose might have been too much of a "negative" to put up with on an arduous climb.

It should be interesting...

Yes, they would have lost his money if they didn't save him. I think that's part of why they did?

I had really high expectations for this show because I liked the previews so I found the first episode to be a bit of a letdown. However, I will be giving it a try for a few episodes. Kudos to them all for making it across that rope bridge! And for me, the air at that altitude would be a problem even if they were going horizontally.

Kar, I agree that is why they voted her off. Prickly and fear of the mom alliance.

I wondered if these people thought they were going on Survivor because they all seemed shocked they were there to climb a mountain hahah

Part of the first few minutes intro to the show said these people knew they were going on some kind of Reality television show, but no specifics. They may have known they were going to a foreign country because they would have to have passports. I think the "Race to Survive" reality shows are new enough that the contestants could have had NO idea what they were getting into. They might have imagined they were going off to play Big Brother New Zealand style. I feel sorry for most of these contestants, but it sure is going to change their lives forever, especially if they manage to last long into the game.

Oh, and good point about capturing the Big Brother audience, but also the Survivor audience, because we were already tuned in to watch Survivor and then some others would stay or just tune in expecting Big Brother and got The Summit instead.

I don't have the host's name down yet, but he is an actor who is a native to New Zealand, meaning of Maori descent, so the accent is authentic. He pronounces the Maori words as all New Zealanders do. And then there are pronunciations of English words that mark a New Zealand accent, most especially the vowels e and i. For example when we North Americans say Pacific, a NZ pronunciation sounds to us like they are saying Puhsufuc Ocean. Bed becomes bid. The Aussies (my relatives) like to demonstrate the Kiwi (NZ) way of saying fresh fish as frish fush. If you listen when he speaks, you might hear it.

Oh, sorry. I don't watch television, have not for quite a few years. I have no idea about advertising. Sorry if I offended anybody. I tend to discover things by happenstance.

Well, or maybe ... I did somehow happen on the season preview for The Summit. I have a Paramount+ subscription which I may or may not renew.

Pro tip for those of us here who might have too many subscriptions: Black Friday is a good time to look for deals.

I caught the premiere of this show and I like it thus far. Had no idea it was on as I rarely watch TV, now pretty much limited to Survivor and special series on Hulu, netflix, prime and apple. I gave up on Big Brother.

I loved it. Combination of Eco-Challenge and Survivor. Not fair to the contestants who are out of shape, but great tv.

There are 7 check points, but 14 days max. So they really are expected to take two days between check points. It makes them more eager to eliminate the slowpokes.
