Yes they do seem to get along. I just keep rooting against the hunters but that is partly my bias against, not hunting, but trophy hunting, and they seem to get along with the other teams.

So next week is the disqualification.

So, wow.. the smoke jumpers finding that trail and being in first.. I have no real idea, but wondered if killing all those hedgehogs was illegal, but you would think they know the forbidden list.

Probably not the hedgehogs. I see online that they are European hedgehogs, are widespread on both islands of New Zealand and are considered a threat to native wildlife.

Maybe it was how the eel was caught with hedge hog blood.

I have to believe, whatever it was, it was Creighton, and my second guess is the hunter/in-laws. I hope it's neither of the top 2 teams!

Eels seem to be fair game, with one of the prizes being the eel fishing gear. I guess we have to wait another week at least. Meanwhile, the knee injury isn't good.

I tried to look up the laws around the taking of eels in New Zealand, and it's a bit confusing. It seems there is one species (longfin) that is endangered (altho not illegal to kill them, just discouraged), and also some areas that are protected.

I "think" I learned this on a trip to New Zealand - that there were originally no mammals on New Zealand, and that is why all of the birds that evolved there were flightless. They did not need to fly to escape predators. So all of the mammals are introduced species, and therefore are not protected, but all of the flightless birds are protected. And, yes, the hedgehog blood and guts, cleaned at the water, attracted the eels, and Creighton captured one with his bare hands! I have an idea we have already seen the footage of which team committed the rules violation, and we probably speculated on it above, but I have already forgotten who I thought it was. Obviously it is one of the remaining teams, and I still suspect it is going to be that one of the team members did not tag the box before both opened it. I also hope the disqualified team is the in-laws, so the FIL doesn't kill himself on camera being a stoic manly man. I am not sure they have fore-shadowed his injury sufficiently by having him curse his knee every three minutes on tonight's show though.

My first thought was also the hedgehogs but I guess it won't be that. It looked to me in the previews like Kennedy and Paulina were hugging each other after producer dude said they were disqualified so I'm going with Paulina and Creighton. Nik and Kennedy are getting very little camera time but I guess anything is possible.

I was thinking the hedgehogs as well. I hate to see teams disqualified. If it is something like not touching the crate, then I think that would be ridiculous as they both arrived. That kind of thing should just warrant a warning. Killing an animal you shouldn't, disqualification. I Still hate to see a team go out like that. And wow, the smoke jumpers. Nice to see them get a first place. Wish their prize had some protein in it!

I also saw a post on a Reddit thread that night-hunting is not allowed in much of New Zealand, so I think it may be that as well. I'll guess we'll see.

I have a hard time believing it would be not touching the crate since the crates are designed that it takes two people to slide them open.

well, night hunting for fish is not alowed in so many places if a light , like a headlamp is used because it attracts the fish that would otherwise float by. But my thought was maybethat fish was taken fron a trap. That is stealing, which happens all the time but is leagally punished if proof is discovered. I think we are thinking The divorced guy because he has weird lines of behavior.

Oh, could be that.. I would hate to lose that team though.. but that certainly could be what it was. Sadies, which fish are you talking about. The team that caught the 5 hedgehogs then had that eel attracted by the blood so it seemed to just be there.

Oh!!! Y'all are going to be right. The disqualification is going to be Creighton, who has been highlighted thus far for many gaffes concerning food, like bragging to all the others about the Canada Goose eggs, and then everybody beat him to the rest of the eggs, and then the eels, and then the fish, and finally, the hedgehogs, followed by another huge eel which he caught with his bare hands! But he definitely harvested the hedgehogs after dark. And New Zealand is one of the most ecologically conscious countries in current times. Well, this whole show is definitely going to be a "glad I did the right thing" story about Paulina no longer being married to that man. Interesting take on a reality television show.

You can kill animals after dark. I have heard so many people talk about not fishing with a light after dark occasionally on TV or in real life with a bunch of fishermen in the family. I am sure if hedgehogs are invasive it is just don't be cruel.

Sadies, the law is no hunting with a light. I believe Creighton was wearing a head lamp, which would constitute a light, causing the hedgehogs to freeze?

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/race-survive-zealand-episode-8-041500706.html Yes completely unexpected. Thought it was the hedgehogs, then wondered about the sheep, as I thought it was a herd of sheep owned by someone. But no it wasn't revealed, perhaps to avoid fines.. The article has speculation as to what Corry ate that was forbidden.. So out went the River Guides (The Hunters left earlier due to the injured knee, which actually sounded like a good decision for the long term)
