Yesterday, we ended up with blue skies, lots of white clouds. Today mixed with wind, rain, then sun. Definitely not like recent storms. So Cal.

Avalanches kill two snowmobilers in Washington and Idaho

In Washington, two snowmobilers triggered an avalanche near Darland Mountain, which is part of the Cascade mountain range. One rider was fully buried in snow and did not survive, the Northwest Avalanche Center said in a news release. The center did not provide information about the other snowmobiler, but advised that anyone looking to visit the mountain exercise caution. The center said staff members were planning to visit the accident site on Saturday, but they have not posted any information about what was learned in that trip.

The second fatality occurred on Friday afternoon, according to Boundary County Emergency Management. Boundary County is in Idaho, near the state's border with Washington. Officials said Lance J. Gidley, 54, was snowmobiling with a friend when they encountered an avalanche.

Northern California post office destroyed by explosive lightning strike

The branch off Highway 271 in Leggett, Mendocino County, suffered extensive damage from fire, the U.S. Postal Service said in a statement Saturday. The Leggett Valley Fire Department reported Friday that after the fire that started during a severe storm with lightning and hail, the post office is a complete loss, though the responding agencies saved the neighboring grocery store.

Rain rain rain.. I wasn't going out at all today.. and wasn't paying attention and someone in our singing zoom mentioned rain and yes, it was blowing against the slider. Just yesterday I finished chopping the giant shefflera down to fence level, which opened the side of my patio above that level to the wind and rain. All my twirly hanging things were twirling..

Tahoe battens down for weekend rush thanks to clear roads, fresh snow

A tumultuous blizzard struck the Sierra last weekend, stranding drivers and blocking the road to Tahoe for days. This week it’s a different story and Bay Area travelers can expect an easier effort to drive up to the mountains to enjoy what the blizzard left behind.

“Even though it’s not going to be totally dry, we’re not expecting any heavy snowfalls between now and Sunday afternoon,” Justin Collins, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service, told SFGATE.

The forecast is expected to be much warmer, with temperatures in the low 40s this weekend and a light dusting of snow.
