Ack, I don't get it either. I see it pop up every once in a great while. (Like how you just brought it up.) So, I throw it in the pile of Russian type propaganda, to get everyone riled up and upset, or maybe just to distract from something that is more important. I've put it on my ignore list for the time being.

Grooch - Probably an “ignore” non-issue. 👍

Oregon is headed that way. Eugene has already banned them. I’ve cooked on both electric and gas stoves. Maybe the interview attached with help.

I know it was an issue that was discussed here in California and "some people" jumped on it as an issue to create chaos and blame the democrats for taking away "your gas stove", LOL.

But it was just a discussion point that it would help with pollution, no action was taken.

I don't actually know either, but when I saw it on some kind of grievance list of things that are being taken away from MAGA, I decided not to bother worrying about it. We are old by now in my house. A slip and fall will kill us before the gas stove will.

Cheers, all.

The major issue is long term for the environment. I don't have children, but I still hate what seems to be the inevitable demise of the human race on this planet.

In areas with seismic activity, where we WILL get big quakes (maybe not in my lifetime, but definitely possible, per Dr Lucy Jones) if new construction was to be built without gas lines, those properties might be spared the threat of fire when gas lines break during a big quake.

And yes, the MAGAs are seizing on this as one more way to get at our governor in California, and Biden..

I wanted to warn people about CarMax.

I thought I would try selling DHs truck through Carmax. Carmax said the transmission was slipping and that a few other things were wrong. I walked out after they gave me the most ridiculous offer. Well my neighbor took the truck to a diagnostics place and you pay $80 to find out everything that's wrong with your vehicle. Guess what? There was absolutely nothing wrong with the transmission and the other things they claimed! The only thing they found was the steering fluid has degraded and needs to be drained and replaced. Carmax are liars.
Stay away.

Nice! But I'm not talking about buying a car.I'm talking about how they will try to swindle you on cars they take.

I made an appointment with a new-to-me optometrist. Liked the bio I saw on-line. Went there today. Walk in to the desk. Hi, I'm here. "That will be $159" (or whatever the exact number was.) What??? Prepay for service? Yes. Thinking . . . I started to get out my credit card. "And a $3.50 (or whatever) charge for using credit card to cover our expense." I walked out. Have you heard of that especially with an optometrist?

I've always paid after service with an optometrist. Partly, I think, because they want you to buy glasses from them too, and you don't choose until after the exam.

I'd been going to the optometrist who was part of local medical clinic for a number of years. I liked him so much. Retired. Hasn't been replaced. Didn't sell glasses or contacts there. My annual bill from the clinic for medical eye check and glasses and contact prescriptions was $35. The last time I bought glasses was at a Warby Parker store. They were good. I'm leery of store-front optometrists.

Eye doctors around me have always asked to pay upfront as long as I can remember. Doctors, too. Vets don't, yet.

As to the extra credit card charges, a lot of businesses do it around me. Started with restaurants when covid started. I can understand them, they were barely making it before covid. And it has been permeating in a lot of other businesses. In fact, my aunt went to the eye doctor a few months ago, and though she didn't have to pay first, they were going to charge her extra for using a credit card. She was buying glasses, so she went home and went back the next day with cash. Glasses are expensive!

What makes me angry is I was charged somewhere the charge for using my atm card. I thought businesses weren't charged anything with an atm card because it's considered cash.

At my job, we don't charge extra. That's because we have a beta version of a credit card system, so since we are testing it for them, they aren't charging us any fees. I laugh inside when a customer asks for a discount if he pays cash. When I tell him no, he gets a smug smile on his face and pays with a credit card, thinking that we are going to have to pay the fee and he's he's screwing us. This is one of a zillion reasons I hate the public at large.

Businesses pay a 3% fee on every sale that is paid with a credit card. There is no fee for using a debit card. AMEX card fees are higher. I’ve only run into the additional fee when the purchase was a large amount.. like $3,500 with a smaller business. I just revert to a check then. Not all businesses do this. Some just factor into the price. Me, if I run into it,I just pay cash or check.

If you use a credit or debit card at the dispensary, they charge a flat 2.99 extra.

I'd never run into either situation before so it surprised me. I walked out. Like you said Kookliebird, I thought charge card fee is factored into price of service or goods. Called another optometrist today. I asked if they request payment before service or charge for using charge card. No to both.

I switched ophthalmologists so I could use CareCredit and because I was really impressed with the new ophthalmologist when he lectured on zoom). I did pay at the pre surgery appointment. No copay, just what Medicare didn't cover. For the doctor and visits, no co-pay due to my supplement.

Today I went to a retina specialist and they made it clear ahead of time that any co-pay or deductible would be due on arrival. There was nothing to psy.

Oh, c'mon, Grooch, have some fun, turn it back on the goober and "fake congratulate" him for imaginarily sticking it to "the system". I know it ain't easy when we here STILL at the clubhouse are always the smartest person in the room and have to deal with the hoi polloi - as long as he doesn't think you are flirting with him - eeeeewwwwwwwww. Luckily I am now entirely too old to flirt.

Maybe she's got grandbabies or something, although you'd think she'd be on here posting baby pics if so.

Too bad it seems no one has heard from Wargod. Hope all is fine and dandy with her and she has just been busy.
