The NHC just shifted the track for #Ian west some and raised the forecasted peak winds to 130 mph. Interests along the west coast of FL and the FL Panhandle should monitor this storm closely and have a plan ready to execute. Listen to local officials as well. Stay aware!

the ring of fire has been very active lately in Asia, Australia and south America. We should expect it here as well. both volcanos and earthquakes.

Beautiful here .... clear blue skies, currently no breeze, but our "heatwave" is over, LOL. Temps are dropping and will only go to 90 today.

We have friends in PEI who still don't have power back on. It was a pretty bad storm for around there.

Mom and stepdad moved to Tampa last year. I bet they would have waited a year if they knew this would happen. They are going to shelter in place. Luckily they are on the same grid as the nearby major hospital, so their electricity would be the first to come back.

Hurricane Ian pretty scary, it may have shifted a bit so that Tampa isn't going to be so devastated.

Naja, are they more inland from the bay/coast in Tampa? And are they up higher in the home (just hoping they are on a second floor or higher wherever they live). Hope they are safe and have all their supplies stocked up.

I will say I keep wondering who is helping those who can't afford to "flee" and what measures are being taken for the homeless. But no one seems to be reporting on that, it annoys me.

Cracking up at how Generac Generators are getting some "commercials" during the weather channel report on the hurricane.

They aren't going to commercial, they are inserting it as part of the weather forecast.

Amazing Product Placement. Wonder what they paid for it.

Dipo, they are about a 5 minute drive north of Busch Gardens, Tampa. So they are somewhat inland. They are in a single story home now.

Tampa has been undergoing major infrastructure upgrades to protect the vulnerable city from flooding, but as Hurricane Ian barrels toward Florida’s west coast, the project is still years from completion.

New plane has penetrated Hurricane #Ian, and is finding evidence that the secondary wind max observed earlier is intensifying, and evolving into an outer eyewall that now has stronger winds than the inner eyewall, at least in the SE quadrant. Eyewall replacement cycle underway.

Tampa is generally lucky with hurricanes. I have a friend who has lived there for 40 years. Right now she is terrified her house will fall apart, she is in process of having a new roof put on and tarp will not be good enough. They are letting dogs and cats in the shelter in crates. Right now, she is thinking to be home. I think she and her family has more animals than crates. 1 dog, 4 cats and a kimodo dragon.

I lived near the Pasadena Golf Course (Pinellas County) for a few years in my early 20s. We were always told that hurricanes "don't" come up the west coast of Florida. But while I lived there we had a tropical storm hit at high tide, with the wind blowing inland.... yes, the flood waters came right up to my doorstep. Never believed them after that. It wasn't even raining!

The thing about Tampa Bay is that if high tide is occurring and the wind is blowing inland and you have torrential rains, serious flooding is inevitable because there is nowhere else for that water to go.

my friend is not afraid of floods. I stayed at her house once, I walked to a store which was easy, but discovered the trip back was all uphill. It is the missing roof that scares her. It was such a quiet summer, she thought it was a good time.
