I do have an iPhone 6 plus, but otherwise at home I am so low tech. Have an OLD cordless phone which I very very rarely used. It has been my voice mail though. Today I had problem with my land line. NO dial tone???? I have a corded wall Trim Line phone. That is my phone of choice at home. It's working again. Problem as far as I'm concerned is AT&T. It is the PROBLEM.

That brings me to --now that I have permanently unplugged my OLD cordless phone, I have no voice mail. Do I get ATT voice mail service for my corded phone or get a cordless phone with voice mail? Some have voice mail "within" it or you can get ATT voice mail service on it?

Question also -- battery in phone handset? If I understand correctly, cadmium batteries can be "trained" not to hold a charge for long. Lithium batteries do hold a charge. Are cadmium batteries still only battery used in cordless phone handset? Or am I wrong about that? Recommend a cordless phone?

why don't you just get voice mail through your wireless service and use only your mobile?

I'm older. I'm at an age where I have one foot in technology and the other foot out. When I'm at home, I prefer for various reasons to use my corded land line phone.

I HAVE to have a land line phone plugged in and "working". I'm in a condo. Intercom / buzzer to front door of building works over phone lines. Recently realized that doesn't mean I have to have phone service on that line. But as long as phone is there, I might as well have phone service on it. So that's what I prefer.

Buy an answering machine, I still have mine and it is attached to my cordless landline. I love it because I can screen the telemarketers and only answer it when it is a live person I know.

At least I think there may be answering machines still out there, mine is pretty old.

<fixed typo :-)>

I bought this cordless phone on Amazon today. (Will be delivered tomorrow.) Digital voice mail is a feature. A lot of good reviews. Almost five stars.

I stopped in local AT&T store today. Very limited selection of cordless phones. At least person in there today as opposed to couple months ago was knowledgable. Could answer most any questions.
