I've been reading a YA series by Tamora Pierce called Circle of Magic. The first four books are Sandry's Book, Tris's Book, Daja's Book, and Briar's Book. Then there is a continuance called The Circle Opens. I've just started the first one called Magic Steps. They are pretty good. They hold my interest.

I'm interested to see the television event, Under the Dome by Stephen King. I read the book quite a while back (maybe a year ago?). I think it's funny everybody mentions the Simpsons movie. Stephen King says he actually started it many decades ago, but finally finished it up.

"A spider pig does...."lol

Just finished reading The Neighbor by Lisa Gardner. A lot of twists and turns along the way. A young wife goes missing and the investigation into her disappearance puts her husband and others under suspicion. Makes you think on one hand about how amazing some detectives can be at reading people, but also how sometimes people aren't the norm and their reactions aren't necessarily the norm either!

Now listening to the audiobook of Family Pictures by Jane Green. Not my favorite of hers, seems to ramble at times, but still not bad!

Now I'm reading "Comet's Tale" How the Dog I Rescued Saved My Life by Steven D. Wolf.

Steven has a degenerative spinal condition; he reluctantly adopts a greyhound rescue not knowing how he will be able to care for her. Good read.

Whew! Finished the two books for AP; now I'm reading a Harry Bosch novel for fun - and for our library's adult reading challenge (needed a book whose main character started with a J or a B). ALL the books I read between now and August can be for fun again - although I'll probably end up reading a couple here in the next two weeks as my AP kids do projects; a few are sure to pick a book or two I haven't read, and I try to read them so I at least have a clue what they're talking about in their presentations. :-)

Reading Best Kept Secret by Jeffrey Archer. He's one of my favorite authors and I am really enjoying this series (The Clifton Chronicles.) Not too far along, but I like this book even better than the last one in the series, I think.

Reading "The Aleppo Codex" by Matti Friedman. The Aleppo Codex is a 1000 year old, "most perfect" copy of the Hebrew Bible ever written. It's alternate name is "The Crown of Aleppo." This book is about how the book was created, where it has been kept, how it made its way out of Aleppo during the anti-Zionist riots of the '40's , and what has happened to it in recent years since it's final resting place Israel. It's a great read.

I'm reading The Mystery of Mercy Close by Marian Keyes for review.

And I am also reading The Three Of Us by Georgette Jones (about her parents George Jones and Tammy Wynette).

I really liked Allison's book. She's got some spunk!

I am reading Looking For Me by Beth Hoffman. She wrote Saving CeeCee Honeycutt which I loved last year.

I am also reading Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight. I just got it today so I haven't actually started it yet but I can't wait. It's gotten really good reviews.

Thanks for asking, Jasper. I encountered Barclay's name in an article about mystery writers and that his style is similar to Harlan Coben's, so I read his first book "Bad Move" and liked it immediately and immensely. Very cleverly plotted with numerous laugh-out-loud funny scenes.

The protagonist (Zack Walker) reminded me of the Larry David character on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" -- the disagreeable complainer who's ALWAYS getting into trouble. But, unlike Larry, I found Zack to be a loveable boob who can't help but get into one pickle after another. "Bad Guys" is the sequel to "Bad Move" and was thoroughly enjoyable as well. I intend to read the rest of Barclay's books in the order that he wrote them.

Sorry the long reply - I tried to be brief.

Just picked up Reconstructing Amelia and Someday, Someday, Maybe (actress Lauren Graham's book) from the library. I put in a request for Linwood Barclay's Bad Move.

I better get reading!! I have several other books I purchased to get to as well, such as Roger Ebert's memoir.

I'm confident you won't be disappointed Rieann. You'll get plenty of chuckles while you enjoy Zack's misadventures. And unlike Coben's Myron Bolitar, who has Win to come to the rescue (as needed), poor Zack is pretty much a one-man show.

On top of all the mayhem he encounters, Zack ALSO has to contend with his wife and his two smart-mouthed teenagers. There's one line in "Bad Move" that still makes me laugh every time I think of it. The first time I read it, I laughed so loudly that my husband came running into the room and said, "That book must be really funny for you to laugh that hard." It's definitely worth reading!

Barclay's more recent works are apparently darker in tone, so it'll be fun to see how different those are from the Zack Walker thrillers.
