Netflix has both of them available on streaming/instant play currently. Hoping to have time over Thanksgiving to watch both of them.

Thanks for the tip, Lycanthrope, I just added The Girl Who played With Fire to my streaming queue. Looks like we'll have to wait until January 4, 2011 for Hornet's Nest to release on DVD.

We watched Winter's Bone last night. My one word review: haunting.

Not sure if this the right place for my question, but here goes. Has anyone had much experience (good or bad) with renting videos from Red Box?
Tried it over the holidays and I'm debating whether the price ($1. per video per night) is worth the trouble I've had so far. Any input will be appreciated.

Trouble? What trouble have you had? I LOVE Redbox, and have used it dozens of times. They get movies quicker than Netflix, so if there is an absolute must see, I'll go to a Redbox.

I love how you can reserve a movie from your computer, and it's guaranteed to be there when you pick it up. And of course, being able to return it to any location is a major plus.

No complaints at all from me!

Bandit,
Needed to return movies on Christmas night and both kiosks that were open (many were inside stores that closed early) were out of order. Had to call customer service about the returns and not getting charged for a movie I reserved that I couldn't pick up. Even when I reserved that movie it would only process one of the two I wanted even though it said both were available.
Next day went to return the original movies and tried to rent one on the spot. Wouldn't accept the credit card I had used the day before.
I'm taking a little break from Red Box and maybe I'll try again. Seems like a good idea.

Saw "The Girl Who Played with Fire" today. Seemed a step down from the tattoo movie.

"Dinner for Schmucks"
Paul Rudd and Steve Carell.
We watched it last night. It had some very silly moments but was entertaining enough. Steve Carell is hilarious per usual.

Miz,

Check out the 1998 French comedy it was based on, The Dinner Game. It's a much better and funnier movie imo.

The ice finally melted and I got out and got the American version of Lindqvist's child vampire classic, "Let Me In".

I saw the Swedish version, "Let the Right One In", a while back and I can't help but compare the two. They're both very good, but I gotta give the nod to Sweden, if just by a little bit. There's just something about European atmosphere that really gets to me. The stories were basically the same, the acting was great in both, so I have no reason other than atmosphere to like one more than the other.

The American version is a little more violent, and the makeup on the little vampire is much more prevalent(showing her "demon" face). But the acting is great from everyone and I was really sucked into the story.

There are deleted scenes on the DVD, and two of them definitely should have been left in. I don't understand why they were cut, they would've added maybe 3-4 minutes the movie. One of them had Abby showing Owen how she became a vampire through a telepathic link. The other showed the coach telling Owen that he could come talk to him if things got heavy with the bullies. Maybe with these two scenes added in, I would've given the American version the edge.

Either way, this is a fine film. I recommend it to anyone who likes the genre, or even just a really unconventional love story.

I watched the Swedish one and just felt bored by it, thought it was very slow moving, etc. The American trailers looked a lot more scary and violent, but since I already knew the story I had no interest in it. I had read great reviews about the Swedish one and I was so disappointed in it.

I recently rented "Pillars of the Earth", the mini-series that was on earlier this year on a pay channeI. I had read the book and loved it. It seems like a movie is rarely as good as the book but I think this one definitely was. The actors were outstanding and they followed the story pretty well. I really enjoyed it.
