He told the chief that he thought that she wasn't ready to come back to work. I can see that she feels like he was against her...you have to think about the entire dynamic of their relationship, just not the last season. In the beginning he really was an egotistical, selfish jerk...she is coming off a really emotional time too. I can see where she feels like everybody is out to get her...I mean the woman was supposed to die last year and she was desperately trying to get back one small amount of normal in her life and she gets fired...I was glad to see her pull the $8 million card on the chief by the way.
Much more disturbed about the chief's returning to drinking. As an recovering alcoholic he is walking down a horrible path. And Meredith knew exactly what was in that glass when she saw him.

Not that I'm trying to give anyone tips; but when the chief asked Joe for more "club soda" wouldn't it have made more sense for him to ask for more "tonic water?" Club soda has bubbles, Tonic Water doesn't...and neither does vodka. I'm jus' sayin'.
Silliness aside...it was very sad to me to see the chief drinking again. He and Adell reconciled, things went smoothly for a while, and now his life is a shambles and he's turned back to booze. That sux.

I wish Izzie was gone instead of George. I've disliked that character for the longest time and it's getting worse. we have a perfectly good show without her, I'm enjoying the interactions with the MW drs.

I thought this was interesting in the writer's blog about the Chief, the part that he has been drinking for awhile:
Ultimately, however, it’s the Chief’s struggle with the past – specifically with his history of alcoholism – that’s the most devastating. So far this season, the Chief has behaved in extremely erratic, un-Chief-like ways – crashing his car, alienating his friends, firing Derek, Izzie, April, and Patricia to name a few -- all of which seemed to stem from the stress surrounding his dealings with the board and the subsequent merger. But the truth turns out to be much darker – and more catastrophic for both the Chief and Seattle Grace Mercy West. The Chief is drinking again. And apparently he’s been drinking for a long time. Right now, only Meredith Grey knows the truth. And what she’s going to do about it will surprise you.

Why are we squeezing Thanksgiving and Christmas into one episode? This season is feeling too rushed for my tastes, and I don't like it. I also don't find it believable that you can take a woman hooked up to a heart maching outside in the snow with NO WIRES except for a nasal cannula. I can suspend some medical belief for Grey's Anatomy, but not that much...

You and I must watch the same lineup when it comes to television, because we seem to always comment on the same shows. 
I loved bailey's speech at Christmas dinner. Good for Mer's dad for clueing her in to the fact that the Chief had fallen off the wagon. Too bad she didn't hear what he was saying. Too much going on in this episode. I hate that they tried to squeeze so much in. I wish they would go back to the writing forumla they used in season 2 and 3, it was so much better.

I think Meridith knew from the very beginning that the chief had fallen off the wagon, she was just ignoring it. the chief acknowledged her unspoken knowledg of his drinking by giving her the private lessons. it just became more in her face and harder to ignore at the end.
loved bailey's speech! glad her dad came around. loved callie telling him 'i date women now'.

Meredith has always been good at ignoring things but there are some things that you just can't ignore.

I liked the show last night, but it would have been better with two hours. It was disjointed with just the hour, imo.

I thought it was weird when Hunt pulled that heart doctor into the room and asked her why she had to tell him [she loved him] now. Based on the timeline of last night's show, it had been over a month since she had said that to him.

Mark Sloane sure suffered a blow to his ego. He became a father and soon-to-be grandfather in one fell swoop.
I love the character of Mark, but I'm a little unsure of him in the fatherly role. Should be interesting, though.
I really love Arizona. She's been a great addition to the cast.

Did the female surgeon really think that McArmy would come back to her if she let a patient die just to shame Christina? Almost as unrealistic as Mark loosing it in the OR. At least it was an excuse for the crossover to Private Practice. Great sex scene & Mark proving again what a worm he is almost made sitting thru PP bearable.

And as far as Mark being a worm - Lexie slept with Alex. She's no better than Mark as far as that goes. I still want Mark and Lexie back together.

Christina knew she was in a rut -- that's why, when she was begging her to stay, she said "I need someone to believe in me" (i.e., in her skills as a cardio-thoracic specialist).
