Not sure how well threads on streaming shows go, as people are always worrying about spoiling for others but I have a question...

Can anyone tell me what he's doing to "wash" the money?

I thought laundering money was creating ways to put cash into a business, so that it can legitimately be taken out as profit. For example, on a certain show a certain person used a car wash because they could create phony car washes (i.e. no one actually came in to have their car washed) and put some of their dodgy cash in the till, pretending it's cash from the phony customer.

But in this case it seems to be happening the other way. He's saying he's an investor, and putting the dodgy money into businesses, but that's exactly the sort of thing that brings attention, because where did he get the money to invest from? I know that then he's fixing the books so that he's spending more money than he actually is (while pocketing the money he says he paid people), but there's still the issue of where did he get all the money he's spending?

Can someone explain? (By the way, I'm only up to episode 7, maybe it's made clear in the last few eps.)

Regarding "washing" money, he's pretending that work is being done in the various businesses and putting the "dirty" money into the businesses. He intends to take "clean" money out of the businesses after people buy stuff there. The clean money would then go back to his boss. There would be no trace of the "dirty" money.

But where's he going to say the original money came from? As I understand it, when you launder money you have lots of cash from dirty sources, and you need to pretend it came from clean sources. He's putting a big chunk of dirty money into various businesses, presumably as a private investor, so at some point the IRS is going to ask where that money came from.

He might be able to get away with it this time (because if I remember correctly (which I might not) he took all that money out of his savings to pay the drug dealer, and the drug dealer gave it back to him to clean) but at least going forward with all that money stuffed in the walls of the cottage he'll need to create a clean source for the cash, which isn't as easy.

It is complex, and I'm not sure I understand it all. But still, I'm finding the show fun.

What I don't understand is why clean it if it came from your account legally. Its not dirty

The drug guy wanted main guy to clean it for him. It's clean for main guy, but he's giving it to drug guy, and drug guy can't easily use it if doesn't have a legitimate source.

Which is the same problem I was talking about originally, but from a different angle. By paying for these fake projects, the main guy is essentially stealing money from the businesses he's invested in (so kind of stealing money from himself) which gives him a lot of cash. But he already had cash. Originally it was dirty because it was drug money, now it's dirty because he has no legitimate source for it. To wash money he needs to feed dirty money into a legitimate business so that he can take out the clean profits. So he could become a fake contractor, pretend he's working on the church (or wherever) and get paid for doing a whole lot of nothing, and that would clean the money, but he doesn't seem to be doing that.

It really doesn't seem to make sense!

I just watched the first couple of episodes. Couldn't stand the porn and every other word the F bomb. There are absolutely no likable characters in it.

I’m re-watching Season 1. Could not remember what was happening in first episode of Season 2 so decided to watch again.

Just finished both seasons. This series is terrific. The writing, acting and cinematography are all superb. It's a treat to watch something smart and well written - there is so much drivel on mainstream tv right now.

Looking forward to Season 3 (presuming there is one).

We're 3 episodes into Season 2 - I had forgotten a few things from Season 1 but it's still pretty good. Even though most of the scenes aren't filmed at the Lake of the Ozarks it's still fun to watch to see what scenes are...I'm from near there and love to see those locations.

I think all of the actors are amazing...sooo good.

In the last episode of season 3, why did Marty get on the plane? Did he feel confident that thru wouldn’t get killed?

I think (I watched it a while ago) that if they didn't go they would for sure get killed by the hit man, lesser of two evils maybe?

I agree with Pamy, watch them all now.
We binged 3 episodes Friday night and finished the rest on Saturday.
I think this last half of the last season was a bit uneven and had felt rushed.
I almost wish I had rewatched the earlier seasons before finishing the series.

Loved this series. Binged the finale this weekend. I'm going to miss these characters a lot. I hope we see Bateman again soon -- so talented. Laura Linney too.
