Another GREAT new show!!! Loved Keifer Sutherland and he's never been one of my must watch actors before.

Love the concept, can't wait to see what's ahead! Hopefully this will be a keeper for ABC.

You are more than correct, Miss, it is a great show. I can't wail until Keifer goes all Jack Bauer on that obnoxious power hungry general.

I was a nervous wreck by the end of the hour.

One thing I don't particularly like is the actress playing his wife. But I suppose I'll get used to her.

We liked Designated Survivor and will at least for now keep it on our DVR record/watch list. Having lived and worked in the Federal government in DC for 16 years (1987 - 2003) it's always interesting to see how television/movies handle or portray the internal workings. Will have to say part of the show that dealt with the initial confusion struck a chord with us as we lived that after the Pentagon attack. Interesting that on the show personal cell phones still worked whereas on 9/11 they "pulled the plug" and it was several hours before we got landline and cell phone service back.

It seems like a good show so far. The mechanics of how the U.S. would deal with a situation like that is entertaining and interesting (in fiction, of course). Plus I really like Keifer Sutherland.

I enjoyed reading your inside perspective on this, Mack.

Loved it. Very intense. Not sure where they can go from here, but so far we're enjoying it. Love Kiefer!!!

I can't wail until Keifer goes all Jack Bauer on that obnoxious power hungry general.

OG, that's pretty much what I said to DH. "That general doesn't know who he's dealing with!"

Yeah, Designated Survivor surely deserves a thread of its own on these boards. I worry though that it has a semblance to Quantico, the bomb and the conspiracy theory. The fact that we see a General so ready to start a war against the usual suspect and the doubts already forming in the minds of the FBI specialist leaves the door wide open to the conspiracy theory.

But this idea of a 'Designated Survivor' is new to me, I had no idea that this was actually the current emergency solution in case the US President and all his 'detail' got wiped out.

It is also scary to consider the possibility of such a thing occurring when we watch the State of the Union address by the President in that building. Could this really happen? That's scary.

I really wanted to watch this one, but was too tired to stay up. Hopefully, we get a rerun on the pilot episode.

I've always found it amazing and a little scary that they gather all of those top government representatives and officials together at one time in one place.

I still remember when Reagan was shot and Alexander Haig declared "I'm in charge here" at the White House during the initial chaos.

I think Sutherland is going to play this very different from Jack Bower simply because he's not the one to apply the screws (literally) to any suspects. His character is slowly showing the General and others that he is more knowledgeable then they initially gave him credit for.

The only thing I don't care for is that there is something about the wife that I just don't quite trust. I worry she might be part of it.

Spunky, yes this is a real thing. I heard this many years ago that they had to put one Cabinet member in a secure location whenever they do the SOTU address, because everyone is in one place and we are terribly vulnerable during that time. I was thinking as we were watching this show, "I hope this doesn't give anyone any ideas."

I agree about the wife. Something seems off about her. Maybe she's just a bad actress.

I liked the wife. I really liked the first episode. And I also am in DC and a "fed". Designated survivor has been around since the Cold War..not only for SOTU but presidential inaugurals or things like when G W addressed congress after 9/11. As side note, the SOTU last january had Orin Hatch, a Republican, as the designated survivor. So it's not just those eligible for succession from the same party. :-)

Loved it. I think they digitally erase some years off Kieffer's face

The wife is an actress I love! Her name is Natascha McElhone. She was SO great as David Duchovny's wife for 7 years on "Californication" on Showtime.

His wife seemed perfectly normal to me. Can anyone explain further why they find her suspicious?

why didn't they mention the entire congress was eliminated as well, do the governors just appoint other people (their friends) to the posts?

Sadiesmom, that's probably what would happen until an election could be held. What chaos that would be!!!

Did anybody watch "London Has Fallen," a movie that came out a while back starring Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart? We watched it over the summer when my stepdaughter was here. It was similar. The British Prime Minister dies suddenly and all the heads of state fly to London to attend the funeral, but an attack breaks out on all the world leaders (since they're so conveniently in one place). It was a very tense movie and reminds me a lot of this show.

Chaos? In real life we already have do-nothing Congress....can no Congress at all really be that much worse?

yeah but if they get a congress, they have no place to meet! the building was destroyed as well. and there will be no c-span coverage! they might have to meet some place without comfortable seats - oh the humanity.

Jimmer, she told her hubby that they never saw his real value. I just wondered if it was a clue.

I also think we may find out its someone in the US that is doing the attacks. The wife could be part of the org behind them.

If this is a long term show we may not know if the wife is hinky for a few seasons

Im just so curious who Maggie Q is looking for. They showed her multiple times very upset about not knowing where the person is. Something is up there too..
