I was surprised when Sci-Fi channel changed their name to SYFY channel. It is supposed to have the same pronunciation but I can't help but think of it as "Siffy" now.

I had thought SYFY changed the name because they were moving away from such a high concentration of sci-fi content, but, if anything, they have increased it since the name change.

The only reason I can think of for ABC Family to switch their name to Freeform is to get away from the "G rated" image it had as ABC Family. I know I rarely check out shows there because (1) I watch way too much TV as it is :-), and (2) I always think of ABC Family as Disney-esque or "After School Specials", neither of which are included in my favorite genres. For me, the name "Freeform" doesn't come across as being limited to family fare.

This isn't based on anything but my own conjecture.

I don't see a thread for L&O-SVU, so I'll post my question in here. Are Olivia and Tucker a "couple" now?

I read this about the change, although it doesn't make it that much clearer:

As previously reported, the network’s new moniker “builds on ABC Family’s existing strategy of super-serving ‘Becomers’ – a life stage that spans people who are 14-34” who are “navigating the wonderful, fun, exciting, and scary time in life when you experience the most firsts – first car, first apartment, first job, first love, first heartbreak,” Ascheim said, “all the firsts that exists between who they are and who they want to become.”

Recounting the impetus for the name change, Ascheim said that while ABC Family indexes extremely well among those who watch it, those who do not tune into the channel are very likely dissuaded by perceptions. “We’re delighted to be [perceived as] family friendly and wholesome,” he said, “but that’s not truly representative of who we are.”

I think basically people didn't watch new shows because they thought they're be too G-rated... a lots like Sanfran said.

My ABCF season pass (The Fosters, great show) looks like it will tape without me changing anything, despite the name change.

Oh, and Syfy changed their name because with a channel name of Scifi they couldn't trademark a lot of things they wanted to. With Syfy they can do that.

I thought I would share this website I recently found. You can plug in a TV series (movies as well) and find the songs used in the show. Each episode is listed individually by season.

http://www.tunefind.com/

I'm one of those people that gets nutty trying to figure out a song I recognize, or it just may be something I like and I want to figure out what it is.

Rieann- I am one of those people, too, and it can definitely drive you crazing trying to find the name of the song or who recorded it.
That's a great site - thanks for posting the link!

This is really weird right now watching a 1975 episode of Johnny Carson where Joan Rivers is the guest, and she is 2 years younger than her daughter Melissa is right now.

Holy Toledo! I didn't realize this episode of Johnny Carson had Truman Capote, too. He famously tells the story of his possible next novel of the "true" story of someone being bitten by 6 de-rattled rattle snakes. If anyone recalls story, it ends up he was totally full of crap. He made it up.

Thank you!

I remember seeing that episode when it first aired a hundred years ago. It stuck with me and over the years since getting my first computer in the late 1990's I have looked it up at least a dozen times but never found anything!

I'm happy to finally know the truth, even if it was just BS. :-)

I didn't see the the original Carson show when it happened, I was in grade school and didn't watch Carson yet, but over the the years I had heard the story and how it was bullshit. So when Capote started telling the story on this episode, I was thinking "Aha!, this is what they were talking about."
It's very fascinating catching some of these Carson reruns. They really are part of American history in a way.

I had posted some time back how sick I was of all those Viagra commercials where they had the beautiful woman rolling around the bed in a t-shirt or lingerie, and now Ben Stiller has made a female Viagra commercial....hahaha!

I wish I could get these old shows on my tv! I would love to hear Carson's monologue, some of his guests and the silly skits the show would put on. It still amazes me that Johnny was not the man he presented to millions every night--funny, sincere, affable--but a very conflicted individual who was impossible to live with and had a mean streak.

Naja that commercial was simply hilarious!

Cablejockey, did you read his bio? I remember reading one about his life, maybe five years ago and being surprised, as you said, that his public and private personas were quite different.

Sadiesmom, when is it on and what network?

Rupertbear--I read a bio on Johnny and a book his lawyer put out about him.
Is anyone going to watch the new show Vinyl? I saw Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese on The Today Show this morning talking about it. How weird to see Mick on American morning tv!

Comcast is having a national outage for all channels except for local ones. This better get cleared up quick. I am missing the "Better Call Saul" season 1 marathon right now.

Thank you Naja! I tried to go online and couldn't even get into my account to figure out what the heck was going on. I was very annoyed to miss my morning Columbo show.

Thanks goodness everything came back, out of the blue and all of a sudden. It was really weird.

Anyone watching the Grammys? Sometimes when these people are singing I don't have a clue who they are, LOL. I wish they would at least put their names underneath them.

I know they expect us to know who they are but I know very few singers by sight. I did recognize Adele, thought her voice sounded a bit off.

And I guess that was Justin Bieber, even tho I didn't recognize him and didn't watch him, saw that on twitter.

I like all the different songs, but the choreography is a little odd.
