It was eight new chef-testants vs. eight returning ones.
The last one that was on, I stopped watching because I kept forgetting but I am glad I recorded and watched.

I know I was shocked, I thought Sam would never be welcome back since he broke the cardinal rule about putting hands on another contestant. THat was the one thing that shocked me. He really needs to rehabilitate his reputation.

I didn't recognize two of the returning chefs for some reason. I'm happy to see Shirley back; I really liked her. I'm hoping the kosher Mexican chef leaves quickly.
It was pretty obvious who'd be the first to pack his knives and go...the confessional pretty much gave it away. I don't have a real feeling about any of the newcomers but so many of them (other than the Alabama chef) have incredible résumés. And the only one who struck me as interesting was the Alabama guy, which means he'll stay around whether he's good or not.
They aren't going to do an elimination challenge every episode, are they? I'd hate that. I like the old format of long deliberations at the table. Other thing I hope was a single episode occurrence: Graham Elliott.

you are correct, Sam survived that although he was involved in some way I think and made it to third. and appeared on a a previous top chef, as we,, so this is his third time.

I just checked the Wiki. That season involving the altercation between Cliff and Marcel was Season 2 and aired in 2007 (and Cliff was disqualified). But Sam said he hadn't been on the show in 10 years so I don't think he ever came back for a second season.

He might have made an appearance as a judge like some of the past contestants do, but I know he was busy with a restaurant he opened in the Hamptons. An attorney I used to work with went to a wedding a few years back (probably about 7 years ago) and she met Sam up there. She was flying on Cloud 9 and couldn't wait to tell me about it because she knew I was a fan of the show.

I believe Sam was on a special season 1 Versus season 2. I believe season 1 won, mush better chefs than the second season, I was pretty much going to give up on the show after the Marcel/Ilian year but the third year was good.

I liked Graham on Master chef but not so much as an addition to Top Chef.

It was all about the radish.
2 teams. Head to head, first team with 4 wins, wins... losing team, one will be eliminated... I truly think Padma voted to get it down to dessert!
I was beginning to think that the newbies don't stand a chance against the Vets!

I thought once the show aired you're free to comment on it...
I just assume that if someone doesn't want to be spoiled they would stay off message boards.
Regarding Sam's exit... I'm shocked that a vet went... Can't wait to see how it played out!!
