quote:Very wet this morning in San Antonio. As of 7:30 AM we’ve received 3.33 inches of rain since about 3 AM at our house. Haven’t seen the morning news from down in the lowlands where the city actually is but have to assume there has been flooding. We’re up in what they call Hill Country so the rain drains away here quickly with little threat of flooding. According to the news last night parts of the city/county could get up to 10 inches through Thursday.
Holy Toledo, Mack!!! AND that also means there have already been several fatalities with that amount of rain. We luckily learned fairly early on, quite by happenstance, how deadly the heavy rains can become in the I-10 ease-west corridor from Houston to Austin-San Antonio area.

It's supposed to be smokey today and tomorrow from Canada's wild fires that have been burning for years. Add to that, its going to be in the 90's today and feel like 100. I will be at work today, in the heat and breathing in smoke.

Continued rain here in San Antonio. Here at our house we’ve gotten about 6 inches of rain in the last 24+ hours. Some areas to the west and southwest of San Antonio are reporting over a foot of rain and that was last night’s report so probably more now as it rained off and on all night. (UPDATE: Carey just told me Uvalde which is 40+/- miles west of here is reporting 16 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.). The soil around here, particularly in the low lying areas, is mostly clay. During prolonged drought or dry weather it becomes almost like concrete. So much so a sudden downpour runs right off and thus flash flooding. Once it has rained like it has in the last couple of days the soil accepts more but then gets saturated and again flash flooding.

Wow! Fun morning….not. It’s been cancelled now but we had a tornado warning from about 7:45 to 8:30 AM for our area. A small tornado did touch down about 12-15 miles west of us and did some damage to a large retail, restaurant, and entertainment area on I-10 in the northwest corner of our county. No reported injuries but they are still sorting through the various buildings. It supposedly was a small brief tornado with minimal winds.

Another Hot One .... temps are going to 97 or 98, depending on which source you use, LOL. Yesterday was predicted to be 93 and turned into 101. Skies are blue and clear with a little breeze.

Right now it looks cloudy and it feels like it will rain because its so dark outside. Don't let it fool you. It's the smoke from Canada and you can smell it, too.

Meanwhile here in San Antonio it continues to rain and rain and rain. Here at our house, and we’re not the hardest hit area, we’ve gotten 10 inches of rain in a little over 48 hours and it is still raining this morning. For the area in general we’ve kind of gone from the really need rain mode to the we need a break mode. Some areas were reporting over 20 inches of rain and that was last night when I went to bed. This morning the heart of the system has moved slightly to the north. Some of you might remember the flash flooding of July 4, 2025 centered around Kerrville, Texas that took the lives of 130 +/- people including some 29 young girls at a summer camp along the Guadalupe River. That river rose 16 feet in just 30 minutes this morning and radar shows they are still getting hammered. While the area is more prepared this year many up there were still recovering from last year.

The Guadalupe River is now risen 25 feet in the last an hour. That’s basically a very tall two story house or even a more normal three story. 😳😱

As of just now the Guadalupe is higher than the devastating flood of July 2025. One death reported so far. The system providing all the rain is still hitting the Kerville area but st rating to weaken and move off to the northwest.

Water main break created flooding in West Hollywood, which then resulted in a sink hole. Not the same as Texas, but there was a lot of water!!

The water authority just told us to stop watering the lawns to conserve water. But nobody will listen and will keep on watering. I never have any water pressure in the morning anymore for my coffee. I've never bothered to water the lawn. I don't believe in it.

The smoke from Canada has reached my Aunt's house in a western suburb of Chicago. They closed the park pools and all outdoor activities.
