BREAKING: The famous Bishop Castle in Rye, Colorado may be overtaken by the Aspen Acres Fire soon. This is horrific situation.
The monster wildfire is less than 200 yards from the Bishop Castle.
This is so sad.

A wildfire burning southwest of Denver has forced the evacuation of thousands of residents and destroyed more than 160 structures by Friday as erratic winds pushed the blaze across two Colorado counties.

Just read on Facebook that a former poster here, Squaredsc, who lives in DC area, fainted from heat exhaustion yesterday and went in an ambulance to emergency room. She is recovered and totally okay.

Well she has promised to rest and only take the puppy out. She was Mocha here after she was Squareddc.

She also hurt her foot the week before.

Anyway we have messaged earlier today on Instagram Very hot there.

Her disappointment was they didn't use lights and siren for her first ambulance ride.

Tell Mocha that we're glad she is ok, and that we miss her here. I wonder how hot it was in DC yesterday.

It's about 5 am here. It's 74° outside and 81° inside the house with all the windows open. I opened a cupboard to get a mug out, and the mug was even hotter than that. I wonder if all my stored food is getting ruined from the heat. It's going to be 93° today with a heat index of 102°.

Also, when I asked the other day, Kar said the fires were still far away. I'm holding on to that and hoping things are still the same.

Hey folks, thanks for thinking of me. The fires are VERY far away from me, but the worst of them is still 0% contained, and has tripled in size in the last three days. :-(. Now the the 10th worst fire in Colorado ever. Many historical structures lost and over 160 buildings overall.

Yay! I have air conditioning, finally!

It's 95 degrees outside and the house is a cool 78°. Now to go open all the cupboards so my food can cool down.

And yay that Kar is safe!

Feels like 109 - that was the temp in WDC when they shut down the Fair Site yesterday mid-day.

I was watching the Weather Channel when it happened. Was at least happy to hear they had free water since you aren't allowed to bring any water bottles into the fair.

There is a really big white fluffy cloud in my view as I look out the window, surrounded by blue sky.

There is a slight breeze and temps are going to 85.

DESTRUCTIVE winds of 80-100 mph are moving into Norman and Noble, Oklahoma!
Take cover NOW! These are very dangerous thunderstorms with tornado-like wind speeds!
Numerous power flashes are in progress per Storm Chasers!

There has been a STAGGERING 760 damaging wind (58 mph or greater) reports so far today, the most of 2026 and this continues to rise!
This could hit 1,000 or more reports, which would be in top 10 of all-time for most damaging wind reports in the United States!
Over 1.3 million people across the United States are still without power!

Seamonkey, that's by county. Some counties have outlawed all fireworks. Some cities also. Others have not.

My city, as usual, the MAGA crowd, only banned fireworks that leave the ground, as if sparklers can't cause fires. Sigh. The county, primarily blue, banned all fireworks. "merica. Sigh.

Ah.. Kay is somewhere in Colorado, I think.

The other person in the family is in Loveland and was MAGA in some Instagram posts so I just unfollowed. She still follows me but I have to assume doesn't actually read my posts

My city forbids all fireworks but of course we still get them and we can hear several cities surrounding us.. Going city to city here just means crossing a street.

Actually back when I was driving cancer patients, I went to pick up a lovely man with a brain tumor and his mom had actually been mayor of Santa Ana years before. Anyway on their street you changes cities from Garden Grove to Santa Ana in the middle of their block! The house numbers changed too. Luckily they did live in Santa Ana. By then his mom had to stop driving him to treatment, as she had Alzheimer's, so he needed our rides and we were so happy to be able to help. I met SO many great people!

Oh but fireworks! I had gone to have dinner with one of the friends from the mobilehome park where I lived for a year and fireworks were ramping up as I drove home and I There were several that seemed to be coming from my community that were loud but just a ball of light arcing high over a major street.. I would guess 8 or more stories high though nothing is over 2 stories around me, thankfully. Definitely startling.

Good to know you are ok.

Looking at pictures of the air in DC. people saying they couldn't even see through to the pretty parts.

Heh, 4th of July and fireworks, and all that stuff. We are on a cruise in Alaska, visited Hubbard Glacier, which is always enjoyable, and then were at sea overnight, so no fireworks anywhere.
