Mack, I remember you buying that house, because many of us still here have been here from the earliest days, so it still seems like a new house to me. We have now lived in one city the longest time we have lived anywhere, 26 years. But we lived in a very nice house with a killer view for the first 16 years we lived here, until Bigdog had both knees replaced at the same time, and we lived in a split level house on a steep freaking hill, with a steep freaking driveway, and I realized it was time to get off the hill. And now we have been in the over-55, no stairs, no hills community for almost ten years, which have absolutely flown by.

I will hit 30 years in this location next year. Hard to believe. With the dogs, good advice from Grooch and Karuuna. The two dogs walked right into tension. Patsy has seen attacks in her home, the dog who had already been bitten had that on her mind, cortisol surging and the scent of hours at the vet (and scent is important to dogs), and if all the dogs are loose and met the new pair at the door it was probably overwhelming for all four dogs involved..

RN Juju’s comment above got me thinking about how long I’ve been a member here. I actually joined in 2000 because of Big Brother but in one of the upgrades/changes to the forum my join date got changed to 2002 for some reason. Anyhow, TVClubHouse is my longest running active membership on the Internet. I participate or at least visit maybe three or four other forums but none as long or as active as I’ve been here. Geez….a third of my life with you all. 😬👍

Hey, good to know I was actually on to something. I knew it couldn't be anything Naja (or Patsy) could be doing. Naja is Snow White when it comes to dogs. It's always so peaceful there. And Kar, the info about 3 days for the cortisol to go down is good info, that I'll tuck away in my brain.

Triple what Mack said. I lurked for a year before before I joined. I was a PIA. I think I got blocked 3 times. Somewhere around 2014 I grew up.

RN Well, I figured it out. It's definitely Stella the cone dog causing the ruckus. I had 2 sweetest dogs alive arrive today, different clients, and if I hadn't changed her greeting style, she would have wanted to provoke them. Everyone in the yard, Stella on the leash while everyone else roams, and Stella has to stay on the leash with me until she's bored stupid and almost dozes off. This actually works, and I got it from Cesar Millan. Calm submission.

Not a fan of Cesar Milan, however, I am glad that keeping her on the leash is working. I imagine she is feeling very stressed and vulnerable given that she is injured, likely in pain, and scared. Rather than calm submission, it's likely she feels protected with you. Did they send pain meds home with her?

Not a fan, either, but if something he suggested works, that is good. Naja do you think the original attack was provoked by Stella, or just the subsequent attacks where she would be anticipating or giving stress vibes? As for the cortisol, I imagine each encounter just ramps that up for her. When does she go home?

I started here the first year but certainly didn't post too much, was definitely glued to feeds and any discussion. Someone made me a folder but I didn't navigate around. After BB I wasn't around and I think came back with a different username and definitely more active.

RN Sea, yes, I think she provoked the first one where she got hurt. She is very toy possessive, and I put away the toys when she's here, but I am pretty sure the one-second tiff was over a ball another dog found behind the couch, and Stella startled him with her mean snarl as she approached his face to take the ball. His response was to protect himself. I noticed that same attitude as she was approaching the the other dog. BUT, the other dog wears a shock collar and has been known to try to dominate other dogs. So I think the second incident was a perfect storm. I looked it up. I babysat cone Stella many times for 2 years with no incidents, and this newer dog I have watched twice with her brother. Once for just a couple days and once for a week. No incidents. This was supposed to be the third time.

RN, please consider not taking dogs that wear shock collars? There is ample evidence showing that this actually increases stress and aggression. They are banned in many countries for good reason. We just aren't that progressive. Some of us just need to take a stand.

RN I refused to use it on the 2 dogs I have cared for that use it. The owners understood. As soon as the owners leave, I remove the collars. The other one that uses a shock collar is just a habitual humper, and yelling no did fine.

RN, that's great! Just remember what I said about cortisol. Dogs that wear shock collars never have a chance to have their cortisol levels decrease... they live under constant stress... so they are more volatile, even if the collars are off.

RN, I'm catching up on a RN post above about our house. RN, we've lived in our house for 48 years. We live in CA and back in 1978, we bought our house for $75,000. If we listed it today, it would start at $850,000. RN, Naja those ribs look delicious. I actually made BBQ beef ribs in the oven yesterday.

The shock and bark collars can be set off when a dog is being quiet so it just becomes a torture device. The ribs look delicious!! Eggie, and aren't we big fans of proposition 13?
