And I saw a little bit of speed skating this morning, and the announcers said that they have huge black blankets hanging from the ceiling. Something about trying to control the humidity to keep the ice hard. The skaters have been complaining it's been to soft and slowing them down.
Then when I watched the first curling game, the announcer said the US wasn't doing so well because the ice was totally different from yesterday when they practiced. Great Britain had already played a game earlier that morning, so they had adjusted.
And now, watching the pairs ice skating, Tara said (when the first pair were performing) that you could hear their skates on the ice and that means that the couple (who weren't expected to do good anyway) were skating on their toes, or something like that. Meaning the skaters weren't good. Well I'm still watching and I can hear everyone's skates.
I believe Italy is having an indoor ice problem and it's all to soft.

Francesca Lollobrigida was the best part of today. Winning gold on her birthday, first Italian woman to medal in speed skating, setting an Olympic record and all with complete glee as her young son watched.
(The other events were great today too but Francesca Lollobrigida Is most memorable part of the day)

I loved that the Italian Women's Skater used "Jaws" as her music, cracked me up.

Jimmer, it must have been really bad, the only thing I have seen other than talking about it was the a photo the helicopter taking her away.
Apparently another skier crashed and was helicoptered out as well.

It was bad. She was screaming in pain while waiting for help and it took a long time. A lot of commentators for broadcasts around the world were asking to mute the microphones but they showed the whole thing.

They said she has broken leg, in addition to the Achilles.
In my 20’s and 30’s, I used to do slalom ski racing for my company’s team. Every time I see the downhill in the Olympics, I just can’t imagine hurling my body down the hill at 70mph with minimal turning. Just point the skis and go. Let alone at the age of 41. Any little thing will throw you off. After getting over the impact of the horrible crash, I watched to try to see what happened. Looked to me like she was too close to the gate, which was later confirmed. Hitting the gate will really throw you off. I feel bad for her, she wanted it so bad.

Grooch, I've really been getting in to the curling too! Had to go look up how it was scored, so I could understand what was going on. 
As for Lindsay, she, like many downhillers, has had multiple broken bones, she has quite a bit of metal in her from all the repairs. I do think it's probably time to retire.

I watched them play each other this morning at 3 am my time. That was another good game.
I'm glad I have a tvch curling buddy.

I love curling as well. LOL way back when I was a teenager, I went over to a friend’s house and he was sitting there watching curling and I looked at him and said you’ve gotta be kidding me? And he said no Jim it’s a great game just sit down and watch it. So I did and wow, is it ever a good game. Skill and strategy. So much fun to watch.

I was really surprised they made it to the semifinals. When the tournament started, they were losing every game at first.

If you like 90's music you should be sure to catch the Rhythm Dancing competition ... we had Spice Girls, Back Street Boys, Lenny Kravitz and other music. It was really fun to listen to and watch.

Bigdog was watching Olympic curling today. We had a close neighbor who was a champion woman's bowler. She won a senior tournament at about age 80 a couple years ago, playing against 65 year old spring chickens.

Great Britain is Italy for the Bronze in mixed doubles curling just started. It should be a good game.

It starts at 12:05 estate. Can't wait.
And that was a good game. I was rooting for both teams.
The announcers said that the Italian guy is the rock thrower on the men's team and he doesn't do any sweeping. That explains a lot for his playing. Lol! And that Italian woman is fierce.

Congrats to Breezy Johnson! I felt for her not getting the attention she deserved in winning the gold for the women's downhill. I'm off to watch the replay of her and Mikaela Shiffrin in the combined downhill.
I love watching the alpine skiing. Yesterday, I was watching the men's downhill and at one point, a skier was going 90 mph. He could literally pass traffic on the highway!
Thanks, Dipo, for that note on the '90's music in rythm dancing. I tuned in late and was baffled why they had all selected that genre of music, lol. I'm not usually that into ice skating but in watching the team competition being at the start, I was really rooting for all the skaters from all the countries. It made it so much more fun to watch.
On a funny note, apparently the gold medals are easily falling off their ribbons if a person jumps in joy too much.
