I just talked to me sister in Dallas. I'm a degree warmer than her! She has 20° and I'm at 21°. Her poor husband has to drive to work at the airport at 4:30 in the morning. I don't know why. It's not like there will be any planes going anywhere. I told her to pack an emergency bag for him and stick it in his car in case anything happens.

30F at 3 PM on our patio so we continue to drop in temperature. What is concerning is the potential rain….which means ice at these temperatures that are still dropping…in the forecast starting at 8 to 9 PM.

Question: Which U.S. city famously made “snowfall” illegal in 1992? Answer: In 1992, the city of Syracuse, New York—long known for its heavy lake-effect snow—passed a tongue-in-cheek ordinance declaring snowfall illegal within city limits. The symbolic measure was intended to draw national attention to the city’s relentless winter weather and the mounting costs associated with snow removal, road maintenance, and public safety While Syracuse obviously could not control the weather, the playful law succeeded in generating publicity and reinforcing the city’s reputation as one of the snowiest cities in the United States. https://triviatoday.com/coupons/

14° right now. Not snowing yet, but I see on TV that it's already snowing in NYC. The roads are already covered. Its coming down hard. They just said it started 40 minutes ago. So, it should be starting soon. I just looked at my weather app and the storm is coming in all directions. I'm being encircled by it and the circle is getting small and smaller. Im guessing it's going to start in the next 20 minutes.

23F here in San Antonio. Light dusting of what looks like sleet…no I haven’t gone out to verify that. 😬 Barely awake so haven’t checked the news for weather reports.

Grooch at least the timing works with not having to go to work! 14 inches is better when observed from inside... We have sun and semi overcast today.

Woke up to 37 degrees in far south almost-Mexico-Texas this morning. Naturally they are closing schools tomorrow when it likely won't have warmed up much. The inclination is to laugh at the thought, BUT, in all honesty, there are still colonias here on the border and despite all the political rhetoric, the locals here do still fiercely look out for each other, which I applaud, and some homes do not have furnaces. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonia_%28United_States%29

21° and still snowing! I was out yesterday shoveling my driveway from 9 am til about 2:30, while keeping a fire burning in the wood stove. I have a decent length drive way, about 2 1/2 school busses long. And that is just to the house. The garage is behind the house. I didn't even bother with that part. They said it was going to turn to freezing rain later in the afternoon, so start early. So I did. As soon as I got about 1/3 of the way through, it looked like I didn't do anything. But at least in the morning, I only had to push the shovel along the ground, and then dump it. My determination was to keep the end of the driveway clear where it meets the road and the snow plows plug it up. I didn't see the first snow plow til about 12:30 pm. And I kept clearing that area. I had to quit around 2:30 because I started working about those stupid heart attack warnings they always give you. I was feeling it. The spirit was willing, but the body, not so much. About a half hour later it turned to freezing rain and stayed that way. I walked out on my deck this morning and you can just stand on the snow and not make a dent in it. It's all frozen. My driveway looks like I didn't shovel at all, my decks too, and everything is a mess. And it's still snowing! I want to make my oatmeal raison chocolate chip cookies this morning, but I'm out of chips! Amazon can't deliver them til Friday at the earliest. So, there goes that idea. Well, I got the fire going, and I'm going to go back out and shovel. It's all so overwhelming, I don't even know where to start. My road looks unpassable, too. And someone told me there's suppose to be another storm coming this weekend. Argh!

Boy did I luck out. I was shoveling a pathway to the end of the road at 9 am. The father of the neighbor across the street was having their's plowed. After the plow left, the man was still doing some shoveling at the end of the driveway. I've never met him before. I yelled out to him how the main road was, and he said much better shape than our road. You could see asphalt. So, as I started to clear the end of the driveway to the road (about an 8 inch drop) he came over to help shovel. Then as we were shoveling, a pickup truck with 2 Spanish guys in it stopped and asked if we needed help. The neighbor gave him $20 to help! I'm not sure, but I might have seen him slip some more money later. So, the whole front driveway was done pretty fast. I gave the 2 Spanish guys 2 boxes of biscuit cookies and some cans of fizzy flavored water to keep their strength up for their day, and I tried to give the neighbor the $20 but he refused to take it. AND he said he'd be back this afternoon with his snowblower to do the rest of the driveway to the garage! Nobody is this nice. I think it has to do with that his 30 year old son actually lives in the house. The father said he is learning disabled and they are letting him live alone. I think he's highly functional autistic. And I told the father I was planning on making my oatmeal, chocolate chip cookies but I don't have any chocolate chips, but if I do get some, I'll take some over to his son as a thank you. I was subtly hinting for him to drive to the local store about 1/2 mile away to get me some. I was NOT hinting for him to finish my driveway so I could go to the store. Anyway, the neighbor actually did show up early this afternoon with his snow blower and another person, who could have been another son, for all I know. They cleared out the back for me while I was baking just plain old oatmeal-cranberry cookies, sans the chocolate chips and the walnuts. The cookies had just came out of the oven when they finished, and I gave them some in a tin, and I need to go over to his son's house across the street after 5 to give him some. I swear, I get more help from men, with my oatmeal cookies (no matter what I add to them) then I have fingers and toes. For women, I make banana bread.

Thanks, Dipo! I can now drive to the store and get my own. Another storm this weekend with a possible foot of snow. And none of what we have will melt by then. So, I'm gonna need them!

Yes, that really is sweet. Grooch, you are a force! How nice that the neighbor's father saw that and was really helpful. I remember shovelling snow in Detroit. My dad parked in the garage, and the driveway from the street passed the house to the garage at the back of the back yard. Hmm two or a bit more school busses, I guess. When it snowed, he had to shovel to get the car out to work and after a certain age I had my own smaller snow shovel and was donated from bed to help. I couldn't have been THAT much help but he had grown up with a dad who drank and lost what they had.. Even had to sell their good hunting dog. My dad and his brother helped their mom starting very young. She even separated from their dad, unheard of back then (but she took him in and cared for him when he was dying). So we weren't rich but he didn't want us taking anything for granted. I don't think there were many times I had to shovel early in the morning but I sure remember it. Later in the day wasn't so bad. Definitely hard work, so good to listen to your body. I hope you got your chips.

Juju, interesting article. I can only imagine those areas 90 miles south of me, being in a blue state where the other kind of ICE is already harming people out of retaliation. We have huge populations that are targets and it sucks.

Thanks, Jimmer and Sea. I saw the son come home around 4 this afternoon. I struggled to get my ice spikes on the bottom of my shoes (no way I was gonna chance slipping) I brought him the cookies and the I noticed the owner of the house next door to him shoveling the end of his driveway. So, I went back to my house, got some more cookies and brought them over to him. I handed them to him, told him he needs to keep up his strength and turned around and walked back home. He probably thinks I'm a total nut, but that's OK. Everyone needs oatmeal cookies when dealing with 12 inches of snow. It's just a fact of life. Sea, I would have made you cookies too, if I was around back in the day.
