At the moment, I'm finding this hard to believe, but I'm believing it. Extreme Temperatures Around the World @extremetemps.bsky.social As your author announced first, after this brief cold spell (without any single monthly cold); another historic January heat wave is set to kick off: It will rewrite history with an avalanche of records. Expect 90s in Texas with even some Mins >70F. AC is back for some Americans.

Yesterday official temperature of 89F set the record for the day. It tied the highest reported temperature for the month of January going back to January 30, 1971. It didn’t get quite that warm on our patio but we’re 10 or so miles from the airport and some 200 feet in higher elevation so it’s not unusual for us to be three or four degrees either cooler or warmer. Forecast for today is for 75F. It’s 66F on our patio at 10 AM. Should be a nice day.

High of 80 here today in far south Texas. Meanwhile back home in the Pacific Northwest, and yes we do live exactly where they have had all of the really bad recent flooding - I got in a coastal flood warning for today and tomorrow.

It's snowing right now. Again. Big fat flakes. Glad my car appointment was yesterday. My engine light was on, and because of that, the car disables the anti skid system. Turned out, the light came on because the gas cap wasn't screwed on tight. Saved me $250 because that's how much a diagnostic test costs for the dealership to do one. I will remember that and go have it done somewhere else and have it done if I need one.

Many times the check engine warning is because of the gas cap, so check that first.

60F on our patio this morning with a high of 71 forecast for this afternoon. Forecast for tomorrow is 81F for the high. Other than one little dip a week or so ago this has been a warm but unfortunately dry winter so far. We typically get a false spring in late January or early February then the temperatures drop until real spring in March. Hard to say this year.

We've had an usually wet late fall and early winter so far. I keep telling myself it's good for the trees to get our ground water levels up. Other than that reason, it's been very annoying. I read a gardening article this past fall to not plant hydrangeas anymore. We keep getting droughts in the summer and even if you have automatic sprinklers for them, the hydrangeas are just to stressed out and all that watering from the sprinklers causes them to get diseased. And from all the people coming into work this summer, asking what's wrong with their hydrangeas, I have to believe it. Also, there's trees that usually do great here, that now you have to consider whether they're worth planting anymore because of climate change and the growing zones are changing. We used to be 7a, now we are 8a. Who knows what it will be in 10 years.
