It’s been 90+ and muggy in Portland here for a number days. I’ve used my AC everyday for the last 6 days. Normally, I only use AC once in a while and never at night.

We have had our AC on for over a week, a rarity here as well. It was supposed to be cooler here today, but went up over 80 for about the 10th day in a row.

Numerous large wildfires are affecting portions of the western states.
Some of the fires include the 23,000-acre Flat Fire, just north of the town of Sisters in Oregon-- which has forced evacuations near the wildfire and the 16,000-acre Emigrant Fire between Eugene and Roseburg also in Oregon.
The Garnet Fire has exploded to nearly 16k acres east of Fresno, California.
These are just a few of numerous wildfires affecting the U.S. Numerous wildfires are affecting Canada as well.

Nice cool day for many & football season is approaching -- along below average temperatures.
Temperatures are in the 60s and 70s across the United States -- east of the Rockies well below average for late summer. 🇺🇸
You can thank the polar vortex and Canada 🇨🇦 for delivering the cool air to the much of the U.S -- east of the Rockies. Portions of Canada experiencing cooler than average temperatures.
Dangerous heatwave forecast to develop across the western U.S and perhaps western Canada.

A CME has occurred off the Sun this evening. CME stands for Coronal Mass Ejection. This is headed our way. Geomagnetic storm watches may be needed. Depending on strength, timing, weather etc -- Northern Lights may be possible.

Stay tuned!

JUST IN: The NOAA Weather Prediction Center is predicting at a G3 Geomagnetic Storm for September 1 (nighttime) and September 2nd.
Things could still change, but as of now the northern Lights may be seen as far south as Pennsylvania, Iowa, Northern California, Oregon depending on the weather and timing.
G4 status can't be ruled out. Have those cameras charged and ready! Hoping for the best!

OMG, it is so nice outside!!! Currently only 70, just wish there was a good breeze to blow it into the house. Alas, no breeze at this time but apparently it is raining in some places! Not here

Temps are going to 91. Which is a nice break from the last 2 days.

If you live around Grand Marais or Grand Harbor, Minnesota or portions of southwest/western Ontario, Canada -- it's possible the first snow/snowflakes of the season occurs on Thursday morning mixing in the rain. ❄️🌧️
Unseasonably cooler air continues to sink into the North Central U.S and this will expand eastward in coming days.

California has been bombarded at least 10,000 lightning strikes today alone causing dozens of additional wildfires to flare up across the state.
If you're ordered to evacuate -- please do so immediately.
It’s going to get smoky across California and perhaps Nevada, Oregon and Arizona.
This is the most lightning strikes in the state of California in one day since 2020.

Intense blowing dust is ongoing near Dolan Springs, Arizona (via webcam). Use extra caution and your headlights. Pull aside and wait until it passes.
