The Trump administration cut about 600 National Weather Service jobs earlier this year, mostly through buyouts. The administration’s proposed 2026 budget does not reduce NWS funding, but it makes cuts to NOAA.

It’s NOT ideal to have the Jacksonville (KJAX) and Melbourne (KMLB) radars down in Florida with a tropical disturbance just off to the east. Hopefully this gets fixed as soon as possible!

A fast-moving wildfire destroyed a historic lodge and dozens of other structures on the Grand Canyon’s North Rim, forcing officials to close access to that area for the season.

Focusing on actual weather this morning with a very active week ahead. Watching the Gulf/Florida for potential tropical development, significant flash flooding possible today in TX and Mid-Atlantic, and increasing wildfire/smoke concerns.

Watching the Gulf for a potential tropical system this week

It's an informative read.

Poor Kerr County and Kerrville can’t catch a break. Got hit again with heavy rains around noon. Supposedly this weather pattern is supposed to change tomorrow. Far as I know Lampasas County and surrounding counties have not been hit with follow-up storms like the one that caused all the flooding. Been a hard week plus for Texas.

Yeah Mack I feel bad for them! I just saw a map on the Weather Channel and it looked like a potential for some more flooding today.

Tropical wave will cross over central Florida tomorrow (Tuesday) with a pinwheeling area of showers, tropical downpours, and storms. A few storms could rotate or turn severe with the potential for brief tornadoes.
More of a concern in Louisiana, Mississippi, southwest Alabama and the Florida Panhandle later this week when it has an increasing chance of becoming a Tropical Storm+.
Interests along the Gulf Coast should be monitoring the progress of this system. Monitor forecasts closely!

If you're along the Gulf Coast between Florida and NOLA, you need to be monitoring this thing when it gets back over water. The waters in the Northern Gulf are not just warm, they're hot. It's rocket fuel, folks. Stay aware!

The circulation center of the tropical disturbance is moving onto land near Jacksonville. The JAX radar is still inoperable (would be great if you could get that fixed Mr. Trump). It will now move across Florida and enter the Gulf tomorrow; where it could develop into a Tropical Storm (or more).

Last night’s one hour rainfall in NYC is the 2nd wettest record in record in New York City. Only behind the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2021.
The fact yesterday's 2" per rainfall rates in NYC happened without a tropical system is significant and shows our new reality. The top 3 wettest one hour rainfalls for New York City in the past 156 years have all happened in the past four years.

Crews fighting a wildfire that destroyed the nearly century-old Grand Canyon Lodge were focused Tuesday on stopping the flames from consuming nearby cabins, a water pumping station, mule stables and other structures, fire officials said.

Finally a break and change in the weather here in the flood ravaged part of Texas. This is the first day probably since 4th of July where there are no flash flooding warnings. That said without any more flooding it is going to take months and actually a year plus until the damage is cleared. Something like 131 maybe more confirmed deaths and somewhere around 100 missing. As it stands we probably won’t get much if any rain from the storm crossing across north Florida into the Gulf. Forecast for that system have it staying mostly along the Gulf coast east of Texas.
