Kar, if I wasn't petrified of airplanes and didn't have a dog, I would do it in a heartbeat. Something else I thought about. Will your son be going with you shopping? If so, have him get in the car first and adjust the seat for you. If not, have the salesperson do it. That's what he's getting paid for. This way it will be easier for you to get in and out without a big hassle. Your brain is going to be so filled up with all the other things you need to remember, fiddling with those controls is the last thing you need to deal with.

RN: Year old frozen pizza dough is still good! Actually, the dough was the best part. I made an artichoke calzone from a pizza cookbook I picked up from where. I need to try his pizza dough recipe to see how good it is before I get rid of the book. I'm annoyed because with this recipe, I had to use garlic confit with it, so I made it from the recipe he had. Not much to do but simmer garlic cloves in olive oil on the stove. I was wondering what it should look like when it was done so I googled it and I found out that you need to put in the fridge right away when your done with it because botulism can grow in it if you leave it out! Botulism?!? No where did he mention that in his recipe. If I hadn't read about it somewhere else, I might have left it on the counter overnight, not thinking anything about it. I'm dumping out the rest of it tomorrow. I don't need to worry about this stuff.

Are the new RAV4's all electric? I did not know that. Ours is a gasoline. And, yes there are hybrids that are not electric. When you drive them using gasoline, it charges the batteries which are under the back seat. You don't have to figure anything out. The car does it automatically. We had a hybrid Toyota Highlander, next size up from RAV4, but also a car that holds a high resale value, and never had any problems with it. We keep a gasoline Toyota Highlander stored in Texas for winter use. I actually love it even more than the RAV4, and if you see a good used one at a good price, certainly consider it. It might just be a bit larger than you want. We have had three Toyota Highlanders in the past 20+ years and loved every one of them. 2nd one was the hybrid, gas and battery. And I suspect the idea of your son trying out the cars for size rather than you doing it is an excellent idea.

The 2025 RAV4 standard model is gas powered.

Juju, thanks for asking. Apparently there are both varieties in the Rav4 line. The highlander is okay, size wise. It's classified as "medium" which is the same as the Ford Edge rental I'm currently driving.

Okay then, you might take a leap and see if anybody on NextDoor is selling a Highlander, even a private seller, as long as you can make SURE it is a local seller, where you sort of have some local leverage if they try to screw you. There for a while there were lots of phony used cars for sell on NextDoor, and I reported every one I saw. But it appears they have cleaned it up. Also, since it is getting down to nut-cutting time, you could try reaching out to ALL of your personal friends to see if any of them happen to have a car sitting in their garage that they are "maybe" thinking of trading in or something, but have just put it off, but it is just something they can put off doing anything about. And their car fits the description of what you need RIGHT NOW. The maybe could loan it to you or rent it to you, with the thought of selling it to you to give you some breathing space to find the car you need. It's a much longer story, but we just let go/sold a 2013 Toyota Camry with 17,000 miles on it that we bought new, to some friends who reallllly wanted it, and they flew here from the east coast to get it and drove it back home. It replaced a 2001 car they were sentimentally attached to. So, don't think of it as fleecing your friends or begging, but as giving them an opportunity to do something meaningful in somebody else's life.

And yes, we/a mod can make a Buying/selling Cars thread at some time and move all of these posts there after you get a car.

Juju, you overestimate my ability to get around. I can't buy off an individual seller... and the risk is too great if something goes wrong. The asking my friends idea is good, I'll post on Facebook and see what comes up, but it's a small town... so ....

RN Had to borrow some money from Mom to get a new storm door. This one is literally falling off and I can't wait as long as I was planning to replace it. The new once gets shipped to the store in about a week and a half, and I hired a guy off thumbtack to pick it up and install it. It may be the coolest storm door ever! https://www.menards.com/storm-doors/larson..../

That’s a good price with reasonable mileage for a used car. Not sure about the brand, but looks good.

RN.... I remembered why I *hate* buying cars. Finally got thru it, but imagine my surprise when they told me they don't accept cash buyers! Seems they have some deal cooked up with the finance company where they get kickbacks for people they force into loans (of course they didn't use the word "force"... that's my take)! After going around a bit with them, I got up and started walking out. Seemed to surprise them. I said quietly... I am NOT taking out a loan, that's my final answer. Cash or no deal. We haggled a bit more over price, and i got a cash deal. I'll pick it up next week. The car is in great shape except for the top of the dash... cant' imagine what was in there that caused all kinds of holes and scratches, but I can cover it up with a dash cover. It was $4000 under book value when all was said and done.

That’s great! Walking out usually works, especially toward the end of the month when they are trying to meet sales quotas.

MODS!!! Nissan is a great brand!!! WAIT!!! But, and, oh holy crap. Carfax.com is just a place to check if the car you are thinking of buying a particular car has been in any accidents??? Maybe?? But I think so. And putting you through the wringer to be able to pay cash is, unfortunately, a hallmark of fraud. I know it is very late, and maybe I am being overly cautious, but if there is any way to put a hold on the sale until you can verify the seller, please do it now, maybe before the money transfers, since it is a weekend? I am sorry, but is just seems to be too good to be true, and there is SO much on the line.

Juju... the car was being sold by a large local car dealership that also lists their cars on Carfax.com for greater visibility. thanks for checking up on me, it's appreciated! I haven't paid anything yet. They are doing some minor work (oil change, etc) and I will pick it up on Wednesday, and at that point they will hand me the keys and I will hand them the check.

Can't wait! And you didn't have to make the long trip to where your son lives.

Grooch... I still have to make that trip to return the rental. And then find a long ride home! the inside isn't as nice as what I would have liked, but the ride was so nice when I drove it...so much better than my truck or the rental (Ford Edge) that I have. I'm surprised that a 2020 Nissan isn't more modern on the inside. But the price for an SUV that size and not that old, with low miles, was a good one. I suppose it was partly reduced because of the dash damage, It's the flat part of the dash, between the windshield and the vertical part. I've been looking on Amazon... apparently there are many dash covers that I can get... I'll just need someone to install it. I already have a steering wheel cover. Weird tho - I'm sad about my truck, I feel like I was not really present when emptying it out and saying goodbye. I'll have to dig out an old photo and make an "In Memoriam" post... LOL.

Pssst.... That's what kids are for. And you probably feel like you are bothering him, but you're not. Kids want to help their mothers and make their lives easier. Especially sons. Also, could you return it some place close to you? Does it have to be returned to the same exact place you rented it from?

Yeah, it's a 2 hour drive for them during time they should be working, so it's a little complicated.... I will call tomorrow and see what the charge would be to drop it off locally, and if it's less than a ride service.

RN I am deep cleaning the house before the guy comes to see the room Tuesday. Right now I'm taking a break from steam cleaning the carpets. I only have the living room left. Luckily I only have to do the traffic areas in here since I cleaned it such a short time ago. Sabrina moved out today She was sobbing like a baby because she loved it here so much and we became such good friends. She's just such a pleasant person. Her students at the Pilates studio love her. She just came here from NYC in October for love, but he's turning out to be a lazy douche-bag which is why she stayed here instead of his place. She doesn't like her new apt that's only about 5 mins from here, and she asked me if she can get out of the lease if she could come back. I said of course. She's 64 but looks 45 and she's a Pilates instructor. Flowing long red hair and about 95 lbs.
