RN Oh how cool that is to have the offspring of Jimmy Buffet's plant! My DDH just loved him.

Kind of nice to have a plant with an interesting past. No celebrities involved, but I have a yucca palm that was my dad's and jade plants from my parents and they both passed in 1994. I have a plant I rescued in maybe 1987 when my neighbor moved from my condo complex in Santa Ana. A teacher had given a little plant to my neighbor's daughter, but mom had no place for plants in her life and the little plant was left abandoned in their patio. I took it in and brought it to my current condo in 1996 and it is about 7 feet tall now. I have a pregnant onion plant I got at a friend's nursery in early 80s that has lived in 3 places with me.

Oh and I have dieffenbachia plants that I first met when the Computer Sciences Corp facilities management contract ended with the County of Orange (the one in California, I know there are others) in 1980 and I transferred to Indicate at Memorial Hospital in Long Beach CA. We worked in a former storage area with no dropped ceilings so there were all these cables for two terminal on each desk and the high ceiling with cables and ducts was painted black. We called it The Black Hole. We were locked in and our door was in the back of the day room in their outpatient program fro recovering addicts. We had to go out there to share restrooms, or walk rather in the hospital. Anyway the attempt at decorating was a grape ivy plant and a big dieffenbachia. We called him George. When we moved out of the hospital to offices at 3605 Long Beach Blvd, (in later years that suite was used by the injury law firm of Larry H Parker well known in So Cal for many ads on TV. "Larry H Parker got ME $2.1 million". https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zMnVmT8bRSE. Larry passed on in 2024, but the firm still advertises. So the company didn't seem to plan to bring the grape ivy or George with us, but we got my ex boyfriend, also George, to transport them in his truck. After a few years, we were transferred up to corporate headquarters in El Segundo, CA, near LAX.. Again it was up to us to bring along our not very corporate plants. In 1986 the closed down the whole division. I was one of the team that worked to the end, for a nice bonus to keep us there.. I took George home to Fullerton, CA then to my first Condo in Santa Ana, and of course he came with me to Fountain Valley. So he's quite old. So I wonder how many generations of pups have come from Jimmy Buffet's plants? It really is nice to have them live on, outlive people and have history. Think of the music that banana plant must have heard?

RN it's 100° here today, and tomorrow too! Tomorrow I'm going to spend the whole day in my summer pajamas eating watermelon. That's it. And of course watch my shows and take care of these dogs. They pretty much didn't want to get off the cool living room floor today.

Sea, that is so cool you've kept your plants alive for so long. How big is your dieffbachia plant now? I never heard of a grape ivy plant before, I had to Google it. Nice. BTW, the lady came back to return the pot. She said it wasn't big enough for the plant. She showed me a picture of the plant to show me it wouldn't fit. I told her that I don't think its a banana plant but a bird of paradise. She didnt believe me, so I took her into the green house to show her both. It's a bird of a paradise. She thought that the new leaves coming up were new babies. Nope their not. So that's that. Lol!

RN --- I need your prayers, good vibes, whatever you can offer. DS's wedding venue has been evacuated due to fire. Wedding is Saturday. They are, rightly so, freaking out.

Sending them all to you and the bride and groom. Is the wedding venue close to where they live?

No, Grooch, it's about an hour away. A beautiful venue in the foothills with mountain views. But then again, prone to wildfire danger. They live north of Denver. Venue is southwest of Denver.

Oh no.. every time I hear of a new fire there I wonder if it would affect the wedding venue, but I hoped it wouldn't. I hope the wedding venue people can help come up with an alternate, and that things will end up well. Of course they are concerned.

Grooch, we kind of abandonned the grape ivy, I think. George was split earlier and I think my boss, Greg, took a part and I have a smaller part growing currently t h at I planted while I was living elsewhere.. kept all my plants going. The biggest part I have is under 4 feet I think. But tge stalk isn't straight, they all bend. Andvthis hot weather is taking a toll. The yucca is only 5 feet. Probably everything I have is rootbound. Now the giant shefflera... there was one outside my patio that was huge, 2 stories high, but it fell over and they removed it, but roots had come under my fence and all the shoots grew to about 8 feet but were breaking rules by being over the fence so last summer I would come over and trim abd saw.. the final stems or trunks being bigger than. My forearms. I cut back to just roots at ground level. The plant is now shooting up 3 feet..

RN, fire is now 75% contained and evacuation order was removed. Whew. 75 people to the wedding, but half of those are coming from out of town, so travel/flight plans couldn't be canceled. Looks like we are good for now!

RN Awesome! I swear I either heard about an evacuated wedding on the news or saw an article. The people were air lifted. Was that this fire?

RN I finally got a Venmo account. I was sick of people saying they weren't signed up with Zelle. It seems like everyone has Venmo, though.
