RN Mrs Mack seems to be better this morning…..at least not worst. She took her first Paxlovid pills last night before she went to bed. She just took her morning dose. Her first comment this morning was “they are right, taste like I chewed on a mouth full of nails”. I feel pretty normal this morning but will test myself here shortly. Figure the next 24 hours will be critical for me as the doctor said typically takes 24 to 72 hours to show itself after exposure.

Last week Carey…AKA Mrs Mack….was in Washington, DC for an agency senior leaders meeting. She flew back Thursday and that works out with the typical 24-72 hour exposure window. Her agency policy is to report Covid diagnosis so others will be alerted. None of the leaders meeting attendees are reporting illness so we figure it was at the airports or on the flight home.

RN That would do it I was surprised I got away with going to an indoor concert. Even Barry's band was behind plexiglass.

RN I just tested negative. 👍 Figure another 24 hours and I should be OK. Carey is not to test again until she runs the Paxlovid course of five days.

RN I just want to thank someone named Michael W for all the things he sent from my list! I PMd the person I think it is when the first things arrived the other day, but I'm not 100% sure I'm right.

RN I’d ask all of you in your own way to take a moment to remember those we lost on 9/11 now 23 years ago.

RN at this exact time 23 years ago I was getting my staff and my wife evacuated from the Pentagon. Of the 125 people killed in the Pentagon two were part of our front office staff and close friends. Their office was about 500 feet from ours and right next to where the plane hit. There was enough building between us and them we only felt the impact, heard the explosion, and experienced some smoke and strong jet fuel smell while we evacuated.

RN OMGoodness, I know you have shared that before, but now I am actually connecting it to real people, Mr and Mrs mack. Such a horrible memory. I was at work at Target. All the employees rushed to the break room to see the news, so I followed and that's how I found out. The store stayed pretty much empty the rest of the day, but long lines at the station across the street started forming as far as the eye could see. They raised the price to over $5 a gallon. Of course they got in trouble for that later. All the gas stations that raised their prices that day got in trouble. A lot of us went out to the parking lot to see the skies and it was dead still and quiet from the national flight ban, and I'm near MCI. Until...The military helicopters started flying back and forth over us. I think it's because we were right next to the big mall of the area when people still used them a lot. It was eerie.

RN on a lighter and more positive note I just tested negative for Covid. That’s day 4 since Mrs Mack first exhibited the symptoms of Covid so we’re just at the long edge of the incubation period. I will probably continue to test until Mrs Mack is through her full course of Paxlovid and has tested negative. Still semi isolated in the house. Me upstairs in the second master bedroom/guest room and Carey downstairs. I prepare all our meals and do the clean up. When we are in the same room even for a short time we both are masked.

I woke up that day and there were two email threads, one each from online communities I subbed to, I turned on the tv. And Big Brother was down to three: Dr Will, Nicole, and Monica Bailey. So between marathon watching on tv, posting as all 3 communities checked on people we knew might be in the locations attacked, I was one of many watching live feeds of what seemed like the last three to not know. https://ew.com/article/2001/10/05/big-brother-and-september-11ths-grim-reality/ Finally, Monica was told that her cousin, Yamaha Freeman was missing. She worked in one tower. And we were all checking in on family members, like my sister in law, who flew often in her job. Mack, if we had known you then... But retrospectively, ever since you told your story here, we are relieved that you both made it and sad with you. Tens the never came home. Much later she was mentioned in one of the books I read about 9/11. She had reached the sky lobby and the people with her urged her to just evacuate but she decided to go back to get her purse with pictures of her son. And thus went down with that tower. The others got out.

I was in Palm Springs when the towers were hit. I remember calling my parents and telling them not to watch. They were older and I was worried it would place too much stress for them. That was the day that I learned how strong they were from going through WWII. I went for a walk during the day. Everything was closed, no cars on the streets. It was the quietest I’d ever seen PS. People in the hotel were trying to rent cars to drive back home, since there were no flights. I was scheduled to fly home on the first day planes were flying. There was no chatter, just sadness by everyone in the PS airport and SFO, which was the connecting flight. Sad day and time.

RN The Mack house is on the mend. I’m still testing negative and Mrs Mack said this morning she felt better. She didn’t see much improvement the first 48 hours on the Paxlovid though she said she didn’t seem to be getting worse. Today she thinks she’s turned the corner. She took her 6th dose of Paxlovid this morning so only four more doses to go. The cough has been manageable and she hasn’t taken a lot the other meds the doctor prescribed.
