Perfect Labor Day in Portland! 65 degrees and drizzle here! Walked 4 miles in the drizzle. For those who do not know drizzle, it’s a PNW thing. Loved it!!

Same here, Kooklie, not a speck of sun all day, just that PNW drizzle. In San Francisco when that happened, people immediately put up their umbrellas. And in Vancouver, B.C. you can even tell if it is GOING to drizzle that day because all West Coast Canadians carry an umbrella on those days.

In one word….wet. Almost Pacific Northwest wet. We really need it so not complaining. According to my digital rain gauge we’ve gotten about 3/4” of rain. Not a lot compared to our sometimes thunder and lightning storm downpours of inches in an hour or two but this has been a steady drizzle over almost 24 hours with a few heavier downpours. There are areas, mostly west of San Antonio, that have gotten 3-5” and now are under flash flood warnings. Forecast is for another 24-48 hours of this.

Heatwave .... clear blue skies, at least we have a good breeze, so far, and temps going to 99. Mack I think steady drizzle is better, at least it gives the ground some time to soften up and keep it.

In a Pacific Northwest all-day rain you have to actually pat your outer layer of clothing, which will be the third or fourth layer from the skin, to figure out if it is raining or not. Rather than umbrellas, we all just wear waterproof hooded windbreakers, and put the hood up if it starts RAINING rain, which is rare. We generally do not have thunder or lightning, and if we do, people go outside to listen to it and perhaps take photos of the lightning, PNW weather-chasers. Maybe once every couple years.

True that Juju2bigdog. I lived in the Tacoma, Washington area for 21 years and can only remember about half a dozen thunder and lighting storms. It just didn’t happen. When I moved to Texas I was almost shocked by the thunder and lightning. Spectacular and frightening at the same time.

Hot again today, I would love some drizzle, LOL, and they were hinting that some may be on the way a week or so away. Of course we have a Heat Advisory in place until Thursday. Clear blue skies with a slight breeze and temps going to 99.

And now we have a heat advisory on for tomorrow. 85 degrees, which sounds almost laughable for a heat advisory but normal for this time of year is around 70 for the high.

Another day in the heatwave ... the advisory was supposed to end today but has been extended to tomorrow. Skies are clear and blue, only a slight breeze with temps going to 99.

Zoom Earth @zoom_earth Heavy rain is moving across... the Sahara Desert? 🤔 Mali and Mauritania are experiencing unusually high levels of rainfall right now. This may be one reason why the Atlantic has had so few hurricanes so far. Tropical waves, which often develop into hurricanes, have not been emerging as strongly from central Africa. One key factor for the formation of tropical waves is the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ). It has shifted farther north than usual.

Our high today was 89. That is really hot for the Pacific Northwest in September. Overnight is going to be 56, then back up in the low 80's tomorrow.

Beautiful morning! clear blue skies, no breeze so far. The heat advisory was supposed to end yesterday but is still in effect today. Temps are going up to 98 with 79% humidity! Wow, I didn't realize it was that humid.

It’s going to be sunny and near 100 today in Portland, however, we cannot see blue sky for all the smoke in the atmosphere.
