The heat is on with triple-digit temperatures across the Inland Empire while peak temperatures reach up to just the mid-80s from the beaches to downtown Los Angeles.

I just saw on the news ticker at the bottom screen that 23 people have died in Texas from lack of electricity from Hurricane Beryl.

I can't believe everyone still doesn't have power yet.

I don't know the details, but my impression is the leadership of TX did some sort of shysters' deal some years ago after we departed the state, and before severe climate change set in, that consolidated the power companies. Big money changed hands, population screwed. We lived in Houston in the late '80's and early '90's. We had some heavy rains and floods, no hurricanes, and no real problems with power outages, certainly not ones that lasted more than a few hours.

Wait what?! Sunday was the world's HOTTEST day ever in recorded history and it's hardly made a dent in the news cycle, social media feeds or press conferences by political leaders.

I'll never understand the apathy towards the greatest threat humanity has ever faced.

Monday was hottest day ever measured by humans, beating Sunday, European science service says; "Uncharted territory"

Monday was the hottest day ever measured by humans, beating a record set the day before, as countries across the globe continue to feel the heat, according to the European climate change service.

Provisional satellite data published by Copernicus early Wednesday showed that Monday broke Sunday's mark by 0.1 degree Fahrenheit.

Most of the town of Jasper, which is part of Jasper National Park, has been destroyed by wildfire. The fire was so out of control, the firefighters had to evacuate to save themselves. There are also unconfirmed reports that the Fairmont Hotel there has also been destroyed. Such a loss for Canada and everyone who loved that town… of which I am one who loved Jasper.

Kookliebird, that video is so sad to see. I thought I heard the videographer say "that's mom & dad's house". I feel for all of those in Jasper who lost their homes, cars, etc to the wildfire. I've been to Jasper and it is one of nature's best.
