Pressure of Hurricane Beryl has gone up from 964 to 971 in latest NHC update (suggesting weakening) but wind speed stays the same, still a Category 3

Looks like Texas is going to get hit by hurricane Beryl. May or may not be a category 1 when it gets to the Texas coast. Right now its projected path is to hit land in Brownsville which is about 240 miles south of San Antonio. That’s enough distance the hurricane should be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it hits us. We are on the wet side of the projected path so may get some heavy rains. We need the rain but hopefully not so much we get flooding.

Poor air quality is expected to linger over most of Southern California on Friday after millions of fireworks, both legal and illegal, lit up the night sky on the Fourth of July.

10am CDT #Beryl update: There is an increasing risk of hurricane-force winds, life-threatening storm surge, and flooding from heavy rainfall in portions of northeastern Mexico and the lower and middle Texas coast late Sunday and Monday. Interests in these areas should closely monitor updates to the forecast. Storm Surge, Hurricane and Tropical Storm Watches will likely be issued later to day.

Still hot, they swear it is cooling. Currently 66, going to 106 and it feels kind of humid. Ahhhh, 73% humidity. I wonder if some of this is from Beryl.

Skies are clear and blue with no breeze, time to put the AC on.

Forest fire has burned 4,000 acres in New Jersey but is now 65 percent contained, officials say

The blaze in the Wharton State Forest was reported early Friday. Officials believe it began in the area of the Batona Campground in Tabernacle, which was evacuated as a precaution.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said Saturday that the blaze has now burned an estimated 4000 acres (1618.74 hectares), but they report having made “substantial progress” in containing the fire. Officials said crews were monitoring and improving containment lines and conducting burnout operations in pockets of unburnt fuel.

Totally dodged Beryl here in San Antonio. The hurricane did a pretty big turn to the east and hit Texas between Port Lavaca and Galveston as a Category 1. Bad enough but could have been worse. There is a slight change we might get some much needed rain here in San Antonio later today but nothing like a tropical storm.

We didn’t and aren’t going to get a drop of rain from Beryl. Poor Houston got hammered pretty hard. They had barely recovered from a tropical storm and flooding then get hit with this. Houston is about four hours from San Antonio but a really different climate. By the way, in Texas when we ask or say how far something is we always express it in driving hours not miles. 😬

Big time flooding in Houston, TX. A friend sent this photo to me from Allen Parkway near downtown. Hurricane Beryl has this road looking more like a river #houston #Beryl
