MB, chicken fried steak is a HUGE favorite in the Southern USA. I have never had one and never will. They take some kind of inexpensive cut of steak and pound it very thin, so it is 6-9" in diameter, then bread it, then deep fry it, I guess in chicken fat. It can be served as a sandwich that hangs WAY over the bun, or as a meat entree, covered with some kind of light brown, probably chicken, gravy. Not being a native southerner, although I spent more than a third of my life in the Deep South, I always found it astonishing to see people eating this staple.

I think the confusion is they said country fried steak instead of chicken fried steak.
I think it is usually a cube steak. I love it, so yummy.

I like pretty much fried anything, so I'd probably love it. But the cholesterol count must be ridiculous.

I'm gonna give MB a kewpie doll for that surmise on the chicken fried steak.
But, yeah, Dipo, agreed a country fried steak that might be served in California probably has little resemblance to a chicken fried steak such as might be served in Texas. I do like cube steak, although I have not had one in many, many years. Hmmmm, maybe both are cube steaks as the underlying meat?

I was thinking the chicken would be like nuggets and I don't like them, but it wasn't and I enjoyed the chicken. Pie was good too.
